avc15
so now, if a mechanical airlock is powered and it gets cycled, does this result in 120J of energy consumed? I may have to do some tests... Back to an old design we threw out ages ago. If the door cycles open, this fan runs for 2 seconds (buffer is set to 0.1). Everything but oxygen goes to the other side. With this setup you will let a little oxygen out of your base but contaminants can't get in (distinct advantage over a powered 4x2 airlock) Just have to determine if it's (like I think) similar in terms of power consumption to a 4x2 powered mechanical airlock. chemie
I assume the door just draws a tiny blip of power each time is opens/closes so like sweepers and exo stations you can pretty much ignore in terms of circuit load and power demand. Deustodo
The power consumed is only when the door is opening or closing, staying open doesn't make it consume 120w forever. So really what happens now is that Gas compressors using these doors still exist and still work, the only difference is a 120w power spike for each door. avc15
By way of testing... before passage, after passage That's strange, 73 joules. 1J was charge decay. I ran this test several times, and it's not very consistent. I've seen up to 120J consumed, as little as this 73. So, this setup definitely isn't the most power efficient then, maybe just a little better at keeping the base clean. Replacing the filter with a mechanical filter would result in about 550J per passage, somewhat more than what a 2x4 airlock takes (anywhere from 290J per passage up to 400). Oh, and I'm glad that door compressors have a real cost now. Bravo. 0xFADE
120 is probably a cost per second. Which would mean the door takes around half a second to open and close. Lilalaunekuh
Would say a mechanical door needs 3 ticks (0,6s) to open (would result in 72J each use) Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/91277-new-airlock-behavior-regarding-power-use/#findComment-1040338 Share on other sites

Where do you find it? I guessed it's 1s with power and 7.5 seconds without power. Was I wrong? Well seeing as 3 ticks was specified, that would work out to 0.6 seconds. 5 ticks per second means 0.2 seconds per tick, 3 of those would be 0.6 seconds. Not sure how the number of ticks was derived, though. While it would also explain the J calc, that could be coincidence without the math to verify it. Spoiler I have some assumptions based on code I saw, though these assumptions may wrong. Name Time (s) Power Cost (W) Power Unpower Bunker Door 30 300 480 Manual Airlock / 5 0 Mechanized Airlock 1 7.69 120 Pneumatic Door / 3 0 Security Door A / 5 0 Security Door B / 3 0 Security Door C / 5 0 Again, these assumptions may wrong. EDIT I did some tests just now. Though I still don't know how long a door need to close, but Im sure these data are wrong Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/91277-new-airlock-behavior-regarding-power-use/#findComment-1040509 Share on other sites
Lilalaunekuh
Ok my statement that a mechanical door would need 3 ticks was based on avc15´s data (and my assumption that animations use just full ticks to play). Now I collected my own data: 100 mechanical doors in a row with one tile space between the doors (each result is the average of 3 runs) A) Everything build on insulated tiles => ~9,4Kj power used B) Everything build on metal tiles (+50% runspeed, to test if it makes a difference) => ~9,6Kj power used Seems mechanical doors need a bit less than 100j (~95j) for every duplicant passing through them. BlueLance
The game used to run in 4 ticks per second, I am pretty sure there was an update sometime near the end of last year which increased it to 5 ticks. avc15
the most important thing I noticed was that it's not always the same amount. 72J was the lowest I saw, 120J was the highest. Could it be that doors continue consuming power as long as they are opened under power (ie not locked open)? That'd make it dependent on dupe move speed. Try your 100 doors again, but use a super dupe? See if the power use is lower? I tested with +50% runspeed tiles to see if runspeed would reduce the power consumption => the doors on metal tiles needed even more power on average (2J per use, so no real difference) 1 hour ago, avc15 said: Could it be that doors continue consuming power as long as they are opened under power (ie not locked open)? Not sure, would need to test if 3 dupes starting the test with a small delay would result in A) ~ 100J for each door (~10Kj) or B) ~100 J for each dupe (>>10KJ) Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/91277-new-airlock-behavior-regarding-power-use/#findComment-1040645 Share on other sites
