Do you think we need robots?

This would also be so cool as a late game thing. Robots to take over tasks such as tidy as such. But extremely late game.
Could use my idea of permanent microchips that I suggested back. Need a Robotics Engineer which requires Mechatronics and Tenured Scientist.

good idea.

we could use robots to move resources place to place, dig and to mop. Also to run machines. you could get to use them near the end of the game. Also, you need to make a charging bay for the robots and a robot maker.

Huh, sounds very similar to this thing they've already implemented. It's even open from the start of the game.
There's a printing pod that can supply you with a "duplicant" every couple of minutes.
They're pretty easy to manage and can do all of the tasks mentioned. You just have to make sure to supply them with beds (like a charging station), oxygen and food.

Well, if you think about it, the game is slowly working towards end game automation. What do robots bring? Automated task completion without dupes needing to do anything! What better way to finish a game.

Technically sweeper arms do some of the jobs you mentioned.

They do yes, But it would be cool if the robot could go out to the biomes and collect resources that were mined but never picked up.
Or a robot rancher. Things to make dupes lives easier beyond that of shipping.  I really do think it would be a cool end game mechanic.
You could even have upgrades on the robot that increase speed, carry capacity, dig speed. He would get his own priority option in the sub priority system. Where only robots will do that job.

Holy balls no robots please...at least no androids doing dupe Labour. As enemies maybe yes so the combat skill gets some levelling. I'm fine with the conveyors although they get misused as steroid radiators...

You wouldn't have to use them :p If they're enemies then I would ask for the possibility to take over the robots. The course of ONI as I see it, going further and further into the zone autonomous work force. Aka Robots.

Oh the cringe...travalbots, mae-2-d2's, liam-3-po's all with silly aluminium hats, doing probably art? Cooking AA- batteries? Probably someone then comes up with the idea to use them as a radiator too... I don't think so bro...

Sry for the sarcasm train...couldn't resist. Chu-chuuu! :D

Lol, I was just giving my thoughts on what is to come to the game. With automation continually becoming more advanced.. only makes sense for robots to be a thing imo

Yes, I know but they do not need food, easier to maintain, and faster.

The game is about managing dups, but if you don't need them, what is the purpose of even having more duplicants?

Is that really what the game is about? Because to me, the game is about creating an efficient system for survival. Now with ranching and even before ranching, you were also managing or utilizing critters. So, I don't think it's strictly about managing dupes. What's more efficient than 0 dupe labor lol.

Autonomous robots would be a bit strange, but prison architect had an interesting concept that might be a good fit here as well.

Robots need to be remotely operated by a dupe at a terminal, but he can only operate one robot at a time. Meaning that the terminal needs to be connected to all robots that he should control (for example with wires to their charging stations), but he can only issue commands to one robot at a time, round-robin through the robots.

Every robot can only fulfill the last order he got from the operator (e.g. move to x, mop where you stand, open door in front of you, climb up ladder). After finishing the order the robot would become inactive until the operator assigns a new order to him.

This forces players to decide which is the right ratio of operators and robots to operate.

So an automated sweeper picking up bristle berries and loading them into conveyor rails which in turn feed another auto sweeper that loads our electric grill is okay, but a robot actually cooking the bristle berries is unacceptable?

Just ignore him. He clearly only things robots are op but not delivery system that remove a "duplicant task"
