When I start to build my base i thought this is gonna be an awesome base and when I built it it looks great. But when I check other ppls bases I feel so stupid and so inadequate. kookraw Posted April 7, 2017 Share Posted April 7, 2017 Two things. First: Like all klei games, there is a tremendous learning curve here. There are so many things to learn that getting anywhere is really hard at first. Second: Don't be afraid to borrow other people's ideas. Often times there are only so many ways to do things really well and there are people who are very dedicated to this game. I HIGHLY recommend you watch a couple youtube vids or certain twitch streamers, they might make you feel inadequate still but soon enough you'll be improving upon their base designs or making your own crazy contraptions. The best resource for learning this game in my opinion is to just play until your run dies or to watch Belannaer at https://www.twitch.tv/belannaer . He has over 100 hours in the game and I've learned tons by watching him. Nobody is being judged for works of art here, and likely nobody is going to be remembered in a hundred or two hundred years as "the Van Gogh" of a screwy colony simulation. Do what's fun, what entertains, and be proud in what you've accomplished. Some people can create wonderful worlds, others have other talents they use in their lives. I make haphazard clap-trap bases that are functional (if you can call it functional). Half of the time my dupes are breathing CO2, the other half of the time it's polluted O2. Meep complains about Lindsey's snoring and the lack of decorations and is constantly puking. Carol is the worst case of Trench Stench you've ever seen. Since he plays Don't Starve, has seen others bases (meaning he hangs around in the forums or watches others playing?), AND played this alpha, we can assume that he's a Klei fan. But back on topic, I also "hate" this game. I tried making my bases pretty but I'm always distracted after 10 minutes*** ***by distracted, I mean Bubbles is "suffocating" so she runs to the room full of hydrogen to "breathe", Harold the newcomer poked a hatch and is now fleeing, and Nails died after digging himself into a hole.
