SpoonsOnMyElbows
After days of testing, i present you:The ultimate guide to traits! (As of build 208689 - i'll try to keep this updated with any changes) Traits: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Mole Hands "These hands are great for tunneling, but finding gloves is a nightmare" Adds 5 levels to "Digging" as a buff, or effectively +125% (additive) digging speed (25% per level). -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Twinkletoes "This Duplicant is light as a feather on their feet" Adds 5 levels to "athletics" as a buff, or effectively +50% (additive) movement speed (10% per level). -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Uncultured "This Duplicant has no appreciation for the finer things" Decor expectation reduced by 20 "Refuses to do job : Art" Dupes with this trait will still build all the decor items, but they wont paint a canvas, or sculpt a sculpting block. They will build / plant / and dig up flower vases, and have no problem building, and putting a body in a "tasteful memorial". -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Early Bird "This Duplicant wakes up feeling fresh and efficient!" "In the first part of the day, adds +2 to all skills." The first part of the day, is 16.667% of the entire day, starting at morning. (Slighly more than the duration of night, which is 12.5% of the entire day) Like the night owl trait, this does not effect creativity. This effectively gives you the temporary additive bonuses of: +20% increase to movement speed +20% increase to cooking speed +50% increase to digging speed +20% increase to disease resistance +20% increase to tinkering speed +50% increase to construction speed +30% increase to speed of completing a novice, or intermediary research unit +20% increase speed to dupe levelling up +20% increase to carry wieght capacity +30% increase to combat damage (15%, not 10% per level as described) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Diver's Lungs "This Duplicant may have been a talented opera singer in another life" "Air Consumption Rate: -25 g/s" Actual numbers: Diver's Lungs Idle/moving : Oxygen consumption = 75g/s CO2 emmisions = 1.5g/s Regular Dupe Idle/moving : Oxygen consumption = 100g/s CO2 emmisions = 2g/s There can be slight changes in oxygen consumption and CO2 emmisons, but they average out to these figures. Also, contrary to existing data, it seems that every action consumes the same amount of oxygen. This means that "Diver's Lungs" is a straight -25% Oxygen consumption and CO2 production. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Amphibious "This Duplicant moves as quickly underwater as they do on land" Reduces the movement speed penalty through water to 0% This currently has no effect, as there is no reduced movement speed. The only thing to effect movement through water currently, is the athletics skill, which is 10% per point. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Quick Learner "This Duplicant's sharp as a tack and picks up new skills with amazing speed" Adds 5 levels to "learning" as a buff, or effectively +50% (additive) speed to dupe levelling up (10% per level), and +75% increase to speed of completing a novice, or intermediary research unit. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Iron Gut "This Duplicant can eat just about anything without getting sick!" No current effect. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Grease Monkey "This Duplicant likes to throw a wrench into the colony's plans...in a good way" Adds 5 levels to "tinkering" as a buff, or effectively +50% increase in speed to complete "tinkering tasks". -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Night Owl "This Duplicant does their best work when they ought to be sleeping" "During the night, adds +3 to all skills" Can only be utilized with "red Alert" status. Like the Early Bird trait, this does not effect creativity. This effectively gives you the temporary additive bonuses of: +30% increase to movement speed +30% increase to cooking speed +75% increase to digging speed +30% increase to disease resistance +30% increase to tinkering speed +75% increase to construction speed +45% increase to speed of completing a novice, or intermediary research unit +30% increase speed to dupe leveling up +30% increase to carry weight capacity +45% increase to combat damage (15%, not 10% per level as described) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Naturally Robust "This Duplicant's hardy immune system repels most common illnesses" Reduces the chance of illness by an unknown %. (illnesses are not fully implemented in the game yet) After some testing, it's seems to be (very) roughly 50%. (halved) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Interior Decorator "Just a little more to the left..." Adds 5 levels to "creativity" as a buff, or effectively +50% (additive) chance to create quality artwork, and adds 50% increased speed to complete artwork, but not to build unsculpted / unpainted artwork. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Biohazard "All the Vitamin C in space can't stop this Duplicant from getting sick" Increases the chance of illness by an unknown %. (illnesses are not fully implemented in the game yet) After some testing, it's seems to be (very) roughly 100%. (doubled) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Bottomless Stomach "This Duplicant might actually be several blackholes in a trenchcoat" "Calories Burn Rate: -0.8 kcal/s" Neither this value, or the base value of -1.7 kcal/s is correct. The real base value is -1.667 kcal/s, and the real "bottomless stomach" value is -0.8333 kcal/s. This means that a dupe with the bottomless stomach trait will consume 50% more food. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Yokel "This Duplicant isn't the brightest in the sky" "Cannot perform job: Research" Exactly as it says. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Scaredy-Cat "This Duplicant is afraid of violence" "Cannot perform job: Combat" Exactly as it says. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Gastrophobia "This Duplicant has an unshakable fear of kitchens and the culinary arts" "Cannot perform job: Cook" Exactly as it says. This includes making food in the microbe musher. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Loud Sleeper "In space, everyone can hear you snore" "Wakes up nearby duplicants when sleeping" Wakes up dupes within 3 extra tiles of the sleeping dupe, giving them "interrupted sleep" debuff. When sleeping in a cot, the dupe is counted as being in the tile where their feet are, not their head. When sleeping on the floor, the dupe is counted as being in the tile where the bulk of their body is. This goes for both the emission of sound, and to check if a dupe will be woken up. Although "Loud Sleeper" dupes can't wake themselves up, they are still effected by other "Loud Sleepers". -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Mouth Breather "This Duplicant sucks up way more than their fair share of Oxygen" Air Consumption Rate: +100 g/s Mouth Breather Idle/moving : Oxygen consumption = 200g/s CO2 emissions = 4g/s Regular Dupe Idle/moving : Oxygen consumption = 100g/s CO2 emissions = 2g/s There can be slight changes in oxygen consumption and CO2 emissions, but they average out to these figures. Also, contrary to existing data, it seems that every action consumes the same amount of oxygen. This means that "Mouth Breather" is a straight +100% Oxygen consumption and CO2 production. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Anemic "This Duplicant is the exact opposite of athletic" Athletics: -5 Subtracts 5 levels from "athletics" as a debuff, or effectively -50% (additive) movement speed (-10% per level). -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Narcoleptic "This Duplicant can and will fall asleep anytime, anyplace" "Falls asleep for a short while sometimes during the day" Falls alseep on average once a day (can be 0 or 2, did not observe 3 in a day in 40 tests). Sleep duration is roughly 24 in game seconds, and gives the effect "narcoleptic sleep". The narcoleptic sleep effect stays around after they have woken up, and never seems to go away after their first narcoleptic sleep. The narcoleptic sleep effect gives +3%/s stamina regeneration, which means they will be permanently on 100% stamina from their first narcoleptic sleep, onward. The narcoleptic sleep effect also gives a -̶0̶.̶0̶3̶%̶/̶s̶ ̶r̶e̶d̶u̶c̶t̶i̶o̶n̶ ̶t̶o̶ ̶s̶t̶r̶e̶s̶s̶, forever. [Edit : The stress reduction figure is actually -0.033%/s, even though it displays as -0.03%/s] -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Flatulance "Some Duplicants are just full of it" "Occasionally farts, creating contaminated oxygen" Occasionally, being roughly between 15 and 20 times a day, producing exactly 5g of contaminated oxygen each time. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Slow Learner "This Duplicant is a little slow on the update, but gosh do they try" Learning: -3 Subtracts 3 levels to "learning" as a debuff, or effectively -30% (additive) speed to dupe leveling up (-10% per level), and 45% decrease to speed of completing a novice, or intermediary research unit. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Irritable Bowel "This Duplicant takes a little longer than usual to "do their business"" "Bladder Efficiency: -0.50" Takes twice as long to use a toilet. Does not increase the time it takes to have an "accident". -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Small Bladder "This Duplicant has a tiny, pea-sized bladder. Adorable!" "Bladder Charge: +0.2 %/s" Normal bladder is 0% to 100% in exactly 1 day, small bladder is 0% to 100% in exactly half a day. Things to note, a dupe does not have an "accident" as soon as they reach 100% bladder. Both regular dupes and "Small Bladder" dupes delay the accident by roughly 1/5th of a full day. Both regular dupes and "Small Bladder" dupes produce the same amount of contaminated water, which is exactly 1750g. When having an accident over several tiles, the amount can vary from around 1700 to 1800g. Because of the above notes, regular dupes will have accidents 33% (not 50%) less often than "Small Bladder" dupes, if left with no toilet options. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Can't Dig It "This Duplicant just can't operate a dig tool for the life of them" "Cannot perform job: Dig" Exactly as it says. This trait can not come with any of your starting crew. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Other notes: Vomit (caused by sickness and stress) is exactly 20kg of contaminated water. If the tile next to a dupe where the contaminated water would be created is blocked by a tile, no contaminated water will be produced. When a dupe levels up in a skill, it will tell you what their base stat increased to, before any trait stat buffs/debuffs. GentlemanFridge
Very nice. Very nice indeed. Now to abuse this to my heart's content.

Haha, well surprisingly, narcoleptic trait is amazing. Permanent 100% stamina, and permanent +0.03%/s stress reduction. And they only sleep for around 24 seconds, on average once a day! If you had an entire colony of narcoleptics, you could even just skip sleep with "red alert" entirely, as they will never collapse from stamina. Regular dupes sleep 75 seconds a day, so you would gain an extra 51 seconds per cycle! I haven't tested, but they might not even get the "interrupted sleep" debuff then either. Effectively making stress free, 100% stamina dupes that sleep a third of what a normal dupe does.
McStar007
Is there a way to edit the stats of a duplicant, so i don't have to shuffle for 20 minutes?
Phantasmanomicron
Do traits just add to the level of a dupe? I keep finding dupes with mole hands that are the same level as their mining skill? Shouldn't their mining skill be 5 higher than their level in miner?

RoboPhred
An external stat editor shouldn't be too hard, the game serializes stuff to JSON, so it would just be a matter of figuring out how they are packed into the save file. The game map itself seems to use CSV format for the tiles, so either its all text or compressed to save space. I might try my hand at making such a thing. For science, you understand. 6HosT
Thank you very much for the time to write all this thing! Very great! When I was started to play, and now have seen trait, such as, "Gastrophobia" only for the Chefs, and that's so curious. The Chef is afraid of cooking, and, yeah, from that side, It's fun, but if after every cycles giving out Duplicants, and Random show you 2 of 3 available to choose with this trait - It's not funny, but what to do. Sorry, for getting off the topic, anyway, thanks for guide!
Saturnus
Gastrophobia is one of my favourite negative traits as I don't ever cook. It's pretty easy to avoid. Just don't have too many dupes to start with. You can always bring them in later. And start planting mealwoods as soon as possible so that you get more seeds for more faster. Well, in the beginning you find buried but each mealwood gives 2 seeds when it's full growth cycle is completed, one to be replanted, and one to make more mealwood. They stop giving the extra seed after, I think 3 full growth cycles, though

DuraLex
Making night owl + narcoleptic very very interesting. I still have to prove this, and I actually don't think i'll have the time to do it.

Risu
Worth mentioning that Iron Gut is secretly a negative trait and every Duplicant without Iron Gut intrinsically has what Iron Gut was suppose to have.
Extremely
Iron gut actually does have an affect. I have had duplicants get diarrhea from eating mush bars. Iron gut stops this from happening. Ergo: positive trait.
