Changing in-game nickname

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't believe you can. Your Steam ID is your game's nickname :p

Yep, the OP would have to change the Steam name (which is possible, but looks fishy). The name shown on Steam can be different from the custom URL too. DST - as far as I know - fetches the Steam nick and stays this way. The KU account doesn't appear to matter.

I changed mine because it was showing _my freaking e-mail address_ to all and sundry!  That is what Steam took to be my username.  Obviously I couldn't have THAT (and it looked clunky, too) so I changed mine...to my ACTUAL Steam username, as it happens.  Now I have an in-game name that looks like a proper name and doesn't tell everybody I run into how to contact me.

...now, if I run into a Steam profile where it says "Also previously played as" and then lists a whole bunch of names, THAT'S where I start to get suspicious. Changing your name to reflect whatever your new favourite fandom-of-the-week is or...trying to for-realsies hide your past(s) as a griefer...?

...Notorious

  1. Hold your Shift + Tab keys
  2. Click "Settings" (Bottom of screen)
  3. Edit the text field under "Profile name"
  4. Click "OK"
  5. Press your Esc key

In DST? Hey, I didn't know that. Do you have screenshots for me to follow?

My Steam nick was preplanned and blessedly I stick by my tafferiness, but it wouldn't let me use normal capital letters and a space between them. So it ended up the way it did. Could have been worse (Origin I got for Dragon Age, here's looking at you, though you're still better than All.Nicks.Taken from Ubisoft; serves them just right, I don't really enjoy their policies).

IF you can turn my DST nick into something with capital letters and a space between them, the next dragonpie is on me.

Yes, you can.

That's through steam though, isn't it?

Yes, it is.

Gotcha!

I'm sorry it is not in english, but I'll add translations

When you press Shift + Tab you get this screen. The marked in red is "See all friends" (I guess that won't be the exact text in english, but you can guess :) )

Mouse1 on this, will show you the friends list, like this. You want to mouse1 over the little arrow after your nickname:

"Change profile name"

Aaaand put as many spaces on your nickname as you wish :D

We can share that dragonpie for two with some coffee, I don't eat so much!

Heh, thanks, @JohnWatson and @mochilo, but that's through Steam, something I know anyway and can't use as it would display beyond DST, along with the "This user has recently changed their username" Unfortunate Implications. I'm bringing the pie anyway, have fun.

Why wouldn't steam let you change your name? Did you try from the friends list in Windows? I mean, before opening the game.

It would let me, but I don't want to run into problems of being accused of impersonating myself (as if anyone was as crazy as I am, pfft).
