Why was fire damage nerfed? Would anyone want it back?

  1. 1. Would you want the rappid fire damage (currently present in single player) to be brought into/brought back into multiplayer?

I honestly don't understand the reasoning behind nerfing fire damage. Getting lit on fire being a game feature now and that's why? PvP reasons? The former isn't even that common because there's only a few ways you yourself can actually get lit on fire (i.e. touching a lava pond or a lavae and possibly if you get stomped by an enraged dragonfly, not entirely sure as I've always used a scalemail when she enraged), everything else is only external fire damage and doesn't light you on fire at all, whilst the latter could be tweaked so that it only applies to PvP or simply damage from actually being lit on fire or even more specifically lit on fire by a player.

Does anyone have any insights on this? When was this changed exactly, because I can't trace it back so far. I might not have even been able to play the game when this change was made.

Now I really want to ask whether people want the rapid fire damage to be back. For one, I think it would make a bit more sense (although sense is subjective for this game) and it would buff up some things that got a decent nerf as a result, namely fire darts and fire staves. It takes 7 fire darts just to kill one spider and knowing that the dart deals initial 5 damage not counting fire, fire staff would probably take more hits. Buffing it back up would also result in Dragonfly and her lavae being even deadlier in a sense (and considering that the fight is more like "easy, just needs quite the bit of prep beforehand", this could work well to buff her. May be she might even be able to stand a chance against Toadstool, who has over twice the health she has).

It was changed most likely as a precaution to greifing. And If we get super fast fire spread back, we need old Willow back too. This Willow would be useless if the fire burned things as fast as in single player because she'd have no time to go in/out of the flames for the sanity boost OR have time to find that special sweet spot where she gains sanity AND doesn't take damage.

I would rather not have the old fire-spreading back in DST. It's destructive enough as is. But the amount of hp fire actually pools down being brought back up imho would be great, as it would make Dragonfly fights a tad bit harder and make fire staves and fire darts as powerful as they used to be, which to me seemslike a pretty good thing. Fire damage reduction overall deosn't do much in terms of griefing, I mean you can still avoid getting burnt very easily as the fire doesn't light you yourself on fire.

And perhaps then Dragonfly would have a chance against the Toadstool for those of you who like to see cool bos fights, otherwise the closest she could get to is beating him until he's at about 10 000 hp before getting killed by his stomps (I've tested it and the fight is quite boring atm... the boomshrooms don't even hurt the Dragonfly one bit for some reason).

Torch was cheapest and most deadly weapon before nerfing. Wasn't it funny?

It still is, even after all nerfs to fire. You can burn entire forest by yourself with little torch. That nerf is definately good thing.

... You can still burn entire forests very easily with a torch... the damage multiplier nerf has nothing to do with it.

Then why aren't people using torches all of the time as melee weapons in single player, hmm?

I do believe he was referring to PvP.

PvP is rigged as it stands regardless. But again, if it's such a good weapon against players, wouldn't it be against other foes too? If so, why had none really utilized this OPness to their advantage to at the end simply finish off an enemy with log hp once they have been extinguished. Regardless, if PvP is something to take into account then, as I mentioned earlier that fire...

Because no one actually anticipates a drop from dead players from PvP in day 1.

I wonder you had played in PvP server before nerfing of fire. Smart pk guys usually use torch instead of other instruments in early games, and Willow was once the most powerful character for her lighter and fire immunity.

Anyway I agree to your earlier mention about tweaking mechanism, but it makes double working on codes I guess. Still quite feel awkwardness when I see a fire dart can't kill a single bird in time...

No what I mean is not the ravaging whole resource. Just for melee instrument on dogfight.
