Worse than greifers, server restarts and rollbacks

Recommended Posts

Just lost a couple hours worth of work due to a restart that passed from a 5 to 6 vote in favor of NOT rolling the server back. There was only two dead people out of the 10+ on the server and the majority of the people who were in the server had just joined. I can only account for four others that I know voted for for no (we were are established and doing fine). This is literally worse than greifing, there should be no way possible that a server should wipe unless 80% of the people vote yes, and even then there are some issues. What if someone and their friend were on a public server and a large group of people were to join and all vote in favor of wiping the server? Is this really what this feature was intended to be used for?

I guess if I were to offer a suggestion in "fixing this" it would be to up the amount of votes it requires for such a major thing to pass, and not to allow people under a certain amount of time on the server even allowed to vote. Its more than infuriating to have someone come burn your base down, but for this to happen to a group of people who clearly didn't want it? No better word to describe it than awful.

I made a post about this. I suggested to change the voting system back to the former way: the decision to restart the world must be unanimous, must have at least 3 votes to be considered and would only be considered the votes of people who voted for something, so those absent to it won't interfere.

Of course, this only for restarting the world. Kicks and rollbacks should remain the way they are.

I agree that restarting the world completely should be unanimous or of large majority vote. I also believe still that people who don't have a certain amount of time in a server (i.e. at least half of the current age of the server?) should not be able to vote for this option at all.

Maybe it can give extra weight to a player's vote depending on the amount of days they have on the server. Then you run into the issue of the server being reset when you're not on, but you could give players an option to cast their vote when they're not on (which will last a day or two). So if you're logging out, you'll click the "auto cast my vote in the future whenever a vote comes up" button, and it'll last for a short while before you have to refresh it.

Wait, a question; why have the ability to restart a world anyway via voting? I mean, lets say there's a majority who want the server wipes (4 ppl) and a minority who don't and want to continue (3 ppl). So then, why don't those 4 people go and host a completely new server? Like, you don't need to force the wipe on the 3 people who don't want a reset, just because they are a minority. So... just get rid of it (voting for a restart)!

lol the same happened to me today, but with a group of griefers joining our server and then kicking everyone for no reason and then reseting it.i think a way to fix it would be needing some time for starting voting again.that way a griefer that joins the server cant just start voting and kicking people every 5 seconds

This sir, is the million dollar question. But then again, why take a torch to someones hard earned work as well? The only reason is malicious intent. Also just got kicked from a server immediately upon joining, have literally no idea why. Ever since Gingerbread's servers went down I've been having a very hard time finding a server that gets to winter and doesn't have people trolling by vote-kicking/rolling constantly. I can't join any of the official servers (the two that have under 200 ping for me) or any of the more popular English servers that are up right now because of this voting system ruining the game for me constantly, especially in the last few weeks. I'm slowly playing this game less and a few of my friends are as well because of this power that has been given to the greifers.

Oh but griefers wait... Maximum I can remember them waiting is 4 days, althoughbit could potentially be more. Just need to get rid of vote-regenning the world and problem solved cause for Survival servers you can just reset anyway by having everyone on the server dead.

Oh my what happened to Gingerbread's servers?

The owner of them got bored of the game and decided to take them down, it's on their page. To quote it exactly " Hey people,

I wanna thank everyone who supported GC to be a nearly 1000 member group. Since I cannot be online lately and bored of the game, I decided to remove servers from existence. They may return or may not return at some point I am not really sure. It only depends on whether I could ever become passionate to restart this game.

Maybe, maybe not.

Thank you all and thanks to all current and old admins. "

Couldn't he have given the server for someone else to host? Cause that really feels like a kick in the nuts from him, although I see his reasons.
