Too much hounds?

Recommended Posts

Hi

I was playing dst with my friend, we are on day 168, but there seems to be a hound problem with this world, at least 20 hounds always attack when a hound attack occurs, and they occur in between 4 to 6 days after the last hound attack. Is this normal for a world that survived for such long? By the way, hounds are in default.

Yeah, the hound count seems to get increasingly difficult with about 6-12 hounds spawning per player. My friend and I have a world on (almost) day 300 and the hound attacks are ridiculous, with very short intermission.

This is just from my experience, I'm not sure what the actual numbers are.

If you want some tips, I'd suggest making a death trap with all the hound teeth you gather. Just tons and tons of tooth traps. Works really well for us.

At day 100 and beyond, the hounds attack in full force spawning 6-10 hounds per player every 3-8 days.

Hounds are ridiculously easy in summer and winter, seeing as the ice hounds freeze other hounds and fire hounds' fire triggers a flingomatic which can freeze nearby hounds as well, allowing you to pick them all off one by one. Of course, in the off seasons, making panic rooms with so many tooth traps that your FPS goes to -4 works too.

I'm on a world with my friend that's day 200. We have the same problem. I think its normal since you've survived so many days. My strategy is to just make a ton of tooth traps, if that doesn't work I just lead them to the pig village next to my base.

Also, I definently think that the number of hounds depends on the number of players. Sometimes i'll stop by the server when my friend isn't on and i'll have a hound attack with way less hounds.

It does; every individual player gets a hound wave. However, if players are close enough to each other, each player's wave will actually get a little smaller.

They are easy, and they're an excellent source of monster meat and gems... but later on it just becomes a bit of a chore. After you're set on everything, hound waves just put a bit of a damper on exploring/roaming.

My and a friend playing on a endless server day 600 find it rather annoying when we had plans to give DF another try in the middle of nowhere very far away from camp and had what felt like 10 to 15 hounds following each of us.

Almost got a full regular chest of stacks of 40 hound tooth, :D without counting the ones that where used in making a decent size tooth traps.

Dragonfly should curb stomp the hounds though.

Yeah sure, in theory she should/would, but tried that 3 times in a row (rolled back to see what happens just for the sake of science) and she still would agro on one of us and not the pack of hounds that was also chasing us.

You'd have bait her to attack while they're close enough to be hit by it.
