Hello Everyone!

So we just got the new voting system with vote kicks and what not.
But this new system has some major flaws. Voting is a great idea for the game but our current system is too easily abused. I thought I'd make a list of some of the abusive mechanics of the voting system.
Here are my suggestions for improvement.

Vote Kick Abuse
As you may know, you can now start a vote kick on a player via the scoreboard. This seems innocent enough to get rid of those Griefers and Debbie Downers but you can vote kick on any player at any time. This means players can be voted to be kicked as often as every 15 seconds. This ruins the gameplay experience for some players by causing unnecessary drama on the server.
Add a Cooldown
Make it so players can not be kicked so frequently. No player shall be tried again after a previously failed kick attempt for X amount of time.
There could also be a cooldown for those who are kicking. You may not start a vote to kick a player for every X amount of time. This would be a good idea because if someone really did need to be kicked (for griefing or someone major) then someone else other than you could start a vote kick instead.

World Regeneration Abuse
So there's a new feature where any player can start a vote to regenerate the world. At first glance, this seems like a good idea because you'd need an overwhelming majority and good incentive (like icebox trap) to reset a world. However, 1 out of 1 players is a 100% majority which means if a lone player is on a server, they alone could reset the whole server with their lone vote. This means one player could reset an endless server (yes it works on endless) on day 5000+ simply by spending 15 seconds of their time starting a World Regeneration Vote by themselves.
Add a Minimum Requirement
Raise the minimum amount of players needed to start a World Regeneration Vote. If we had a minimum of 4 people to start a vote, lone players couldn't reset entire servers without the approval of others.
-On a side note, there may be tweaking needed for endless servers. On survival servers, players can already reset an empty server by suiciding and waiting 2 minutes, but can't on endless server because, well, they're endless.

Rollback Abuse
Similar to World Regeneration Abuse, players can rollback the server with their lone vote. This isn't as significant as resetting the whole server, but it's still there. As stated before, adding a minimum, maybe 2 people, would be an easy fix.

That is all I have to say. Thank you for reading through my post.

The new update just came out adding a minimum voting requirement of 3 people. Thanks for the hotfix!

For your endless server ideas. I think there needs to be an option for admins to enable or disable the features of regenerating the world or rollbacking or whatnot. That, and probably having players who spent some time there to be able to use the voting features.

Overall, it is quite terrifying how the voting system we have now can be abused....

All of this tbh.

Wow.  It actually works THAT way?  With only ONE person?!  Dang. That's just plain nuts.  I gotta think Klei didn't intend that or something, 'cos they strike me as intelligent people and _wow_.  One person should never have that much power, especially not wielded so easily.

Couldn't they just kill themselves to reset the server if it's a survival server? (I might do that sometimes if no one is on, but I just adapt if I can't reset it)

Not only that, people you kick (Griefers ofcourse) can just return to the server seconds after being kicked with no penalties at all.
Let's say, someone is burning everything down (On a dedicated server without admin) and people decide to kick him/her, she still got 15 seconds to go rampage, get kicked, and then come back just moment after and do it all over again.

A temp ban should be put in place along with the kick to atleast be somewhat effective if you ask me

I'd say we just plain need an actual temp-ban system in the first place. I admit, I haven't played DST since this latest update rolled out (Seeing as, believe it or not, I have a life)

I can see rollback, that's fine, it's okay I guess. I mean, it'd take quite a team of griefers to actually do something like that, but it still needs a change.

A world reset vote? Ha ha, what? This makes very little sense on a survival server (Which is what I usually host on) seeing as if you just want the world to reset, you can just kill yourself. I do understand it on other servers, but... it's just sorta, unnecessary, in my opinion. Again, I have no idea if something like this would ever come up as a necessity, but, alright I guess....

Vote kicking, well, let's admit, we all saw this coming. Can it be abused? Yes. Yes it can. But how do other games prevent it from being abused?

They don't. They can't.

In Team Fortress 2 for example, usually if someone initiates a vote kick for no reason, people defend the person about to be kicked. However, lets say you see a valve server and you're thinking: "Oh sweet, it's got nobody on it, perfect for me and my friend" Well, a huge party can join and kick both of you out lickety split. Perhaps make it so if it detects someone has burnt/hammered things within, oh, 2 minutes, the kick keeps them kicked for a little bit longer instead of "lol welp i guess i'll re-join and continue"

Hey, sorry to say this got shipped with the wrong vote rules, updated rules will be going out in the next just released hotfix (always 100% unanimous with at least 3 votes, no abstains).

Thanks for your thoughts on this so far! We've definitely considered additional rules and constraints, but we wanted to start with something simple. Please, continue to let us know what's working and what isn't and we'll work to improve the feature.
