I do wish there was more Winter content. The challenges Winter presents early in the game make up the content but later on in a world it just turns into 15 days of eating and waiting for the Deerclops to show up.

You could say the same about Spring.

Or Summer.

Or Autumn.

In Spring and Autumn, there's stuff to harvest, and in Summer you can go down into the caves to explore to your heart's content with no fuss. Not saying there's tons of riveting activities, but at least stuff to kill time.

Stuff like what? Even more cut grass? Even more twigs? Reeds?

It doesn't take me 20 days to harvest everything I need.

After I explore the caves and kill the Guardian, what do I do now?

The ruins don't get new gems or thulecite, they get barren.

At this point you go smack the Dragonfly like it's a piñata.

You play the waiting game a lot.

In Autumn, you harvest once in a while (if you need it) , and you wait for the Bearger.

In Spring, you harvest once, and you wait for the Moose.

In Summer, you harvest once in a while (if you need it), and you can move through the caves like it was Autumn.

No caves? Then it's more waiting. Unless you are playing "build the mega base".

If there's something that needs love before Winter, it's Summer.

Well you could start tracking dirt piles, trying to find a Ewecus and killing it, make a (dark sword) war saddle, and start taming a beefalo.

Don't you think the walruses should be stronger or at least rarer?

Not rarer. My most recent world has only 1 McTusk camp and he never drops anything.:wilsondisappointed:

I think he should be a bit tougher though. Like, I shouldn't be able to just chase him to the end of his range and stunlock him when he decides to turn around.

If you're not doing this it seems like the entertainment value of the game would die in quite a hurry. I assumed this is what everyone's doing if they're playing more than a couple hundred days. I guess I can give you this, though:

Well, that seems kinda dumb, having to create another server to fight it again.

It's very dumb, particularly without the teleportato in play.

If you're positive about that number, please update the wiki.

Your comment about Tam being called amazing makes no sense.

  • It has double the sanity gain of the second-best sanity hat in DST.
  • Night sanity drain is probably 80-90% of all sanity drain that happens in DST.

Why on earth would you hate people calling it amazing?  It basically removes sanity concerns from the game while worn (while also providing great insulation and lasting long.)

Oh, damn. I was sure it was 6.6. Well, my mistake, sorry.

What's the second best sanity hat?

Night Sanity drain is again, easily managable by the other ways that instantly restore sanity instead of as you wear something

How much time ahead did you plan this joke?

Second best sanity hat is Top Hat..  (Hats wiki)

If your stance is 'sanity is a trivial challenge that never challenges me' then why is your stance also 'the Tam should continue to make sanity a nonexistent challenge'?  DST's fun rests on whether it can provide interesting challenges to players.  DST's challenges are currently multi-layered (with sanity, light, temperature, food, and combat/HP all being managed at once) and that's why they're interesting (since individually each of them is too shallow to make things interesting on its own.)  Removing layers is a bad idea.

My stance is not removing the Tam O'. I enjoy having it around. I just personally never found it that good because night sanity drain isn't that big of a deal in most of my playthroughs. Then again I play the regular DS more, so maybe its different in DST.

Oh sorry, I didn't see the post where someone asked for the Tam to be removed.  That would be bad, of course.

I'm just asking for balance.  It would still be great as a 6.7 sanity hat (with nothing else, or a 3.3 sanity hat (with 120 insulation), and then it'd be great if a new hat covered whichever of those stats the Tam didn't.

If you think sanity overall isn't very challenging, then it's a little confusing why you'd want to make it even less challenging.  It's only by providing multiple layers of challenges at once (sanity, food, HP/combat, light, temperature) that DST is able to remain interesting, since each layer in isolation is relatively shallow.  So if anything you should be in favor of reducing the sanity gain on all hats, since managing sanity with one-off consumables (picking flowers, cooked mushrooms, etc) involves a more constant flow of decisions and can change depending on the biomes you're forced to go by the other challenges.

Alright. So it is basically just me who wants more of a challenge with the walruses OR OTHER MOBS WITH A STORY...?

What I mean by this: the MacTusks seem to have a story. They do not defend their territory like guardian pigs or merms do. They do not pursue you for food like (presumably) hounds or a bearger. They actively hunt you for fun. Such opponents instill a much fiercer response. They also inspire cooperation between players. I would love more aggressive mobs like them. Ones with a story and, you know... more of a worthy opponent status.

I'd actually love more of this

Reducing? What? Who said that?

I said it. Of you.  You appear to think sanity challenges are currently trivial.  Players who feel that way should be in favor of reducing all of the easy-mode passive sanity benefits to hats, because it provides a more interesting challenge.

They're trivial because of knowledge in the game(everything is). My hatred for the tam o' shanter is because its sanity gain is only high enough to negate night drain and that's it, and in most situations that's not that impressive.
