Everybody gets a Chester

Recommended Posts

So there is still a single Chester per world, why is that?

Players having to share that single companion just like Glommer, but with Glommer they can at least huddle around him in a base to restore sanity where he stays mostly anyway to farm goop.

Having to share Chester doesn't work the same, people don't really get to experience the whole "that's my Chester, and hes going on adventures with me" hes more like the server Chester now, having to take turns or not at all.

Should we have the ability to make more Chesters in our world? perhaps through a process of raising one? having the main Chester give birth to little Chester pups who start off with little storage room and later grow onwords to become full grown Chesters, who can maybe have different colors and traits as well? that way we can all enjoy having our own Chesters.

 your thoughts?

Yeah but you can't really rely on every server to have it,  and why not implement a legit way for more Chesters to be obtainable.

Because then someone could just relentlessly breed chesters or kill others for their chesters, have inventories of eyebones, those chesters being full of eyebones, and then have like 9 billion chesters hopping around, carrying the entire base with them.

Would be pretty cool to make a nesting box for like Chester to give birth to baby Chesters kind of like kittens, or dogs, but @Weirdobob makes a good point as it would be pretty op if you could just have Hutch have some "alone time" with Chester to make more Chester, and Hutches, and thus never need to use chests, and just make a lot of signs around the map to screw with people's heads.

I mean, technically there are two Chesters in the world. Chester and Hutch.

I don't really take Hutch to consideration here since the main game takes place in the surfice.

Thers plenty of ways and mechanics that can use to stop this.

I just want people discussing the idea of more then one chester first

I like Chester the way he is right now.

Chester is a one-of-a-kind. Having more than one wouldnt feel right, same with Hutch.

Can someone please explain to me why having more then one chester in the same world is a bad thing? i know hes unique so why can't  We...lets say make a different Chester type like some sort of kitten Chester or any other alternative , just so other players have a companion agen.

I can see how one Chester can work on a 2 player server or even 3 but not 6.

maybe others can even be something else then a storage unites, Like healers or ones that pick items off the ground and throw em to you.

Perhaps. It's always the case that when one person takes him out on an adventure, someone else will ask where it is because they want to follow suit, and… Yeah.

Chester is sort of a reward for exploring, seeing as that's how he's found, exploring. (Or really blind luck) and having multiple chesters per person that come via (Idk, bird dropping) just kind of removes that purpose. Chester is, in a way, a trophy, and believe it or not, he is not necessary to normal gameplay. He does help, yes, but so does a krampus sack.

We can still have other Chesters reward you for those acts, or any other act for the matter.

Chester is much more then the krampus sack (which is more of a wwaayyy late-game-do-if-your-bored-and-want-it kind of thing)

Chester isn't required for the game yes, but he certainly enriches it.

If Chester is a trophy that rewards exploring why not have other Chesters as trophys for doing other special acts like teamwork, defeating a giant etc.

Um, tbh, i would much, much MUCH rather have krampus then a chester. The idea of multiple chesters doing different things doesnt intrigue me. Why? Because it makes one lazy. To the new player, it might seem a godsend, but to the experienced, it does basically nothing. Don't Starve is a game that is designed to be hard, but possible. If we have say a healing chester, it may very well make many healing foods and items redundant. A chester that picks things off the ground? while that might seem efficient, it really isnt. You may very well be fighting with chester to pick stuff up. In most of my servers and servers i play on, chester is no big deal. "i found chester lol" "oh nice". And thats basically alls that said. Most of the time my friends and i dont even USE him, just leave eyebone in a chest.

TL:DR: Don't need chesters for everyone or for doing things. If you really need him for something, git g00d.

The popular mod mentioned is Personal Chesters. Every player spawns with one chester AND despawns with it when leaving the world. This maintains balance and avoids hoarding since the player can just leave for a moment to take their eyebone out of the thief's inventory and instantly get it back when logging in again.

Fix Multiplayer has the option to spawn more chesters. You have to find each eyebone. If trying to take another when already carrying one, you will drop it. This maintains balance too.

I can imagine why Klei made one chester a default setting. It gives an additional challenge of sharing. Glommer cannot go into caves just like chester cannot to bring in more challenge.
