Why is there human meat among my game files

Recommended Posts

First of all, no, I don't have any mods, since I'm unable to play.

Anyway, I was searching in the files and found a lot of stuff about human meat like:

-Wilson's strings

HUMANMEAT = "Flesh is flesh. Where do I draw the line?",
HUMANMEAT_COOKED = "Cooked nice and pink, but still morally gray.",
HUMANMEAT_DRIED = "Letting it dry makes it not come from a human, right?",

Sprites in the tex files

I even checked the page of the Canibalism mod, but the sprites are completely different

Is this an deleted feature? Or a new addition?

They've added this before, but I thought it was kind of discontinued due to the community feedback?

Basically, yeah. Someone made a huge thread a while back on how it was offensive, so the devs took it out.

Whether or not you agree that 'long pig' was pushing the limit of dark themes or not is up to you. That's why they left it in the files; so people could enable it if they felt like taking a somewhat moral challenge head on.

I would have to check in the game now, but clearly it used to be spawnable through the console (very stat-draining food items, the worst monnster food except the deadly feast). I can check if you want, but the complaint thread was so enormous I eventually gave up without reading it whole. So you get the idea.

Yeah, if I recall correctly from the other thread they didn't want eating your dead friends (or, indeed, enemies and acquaintances) to be an important gameplay element so they disabled it, but they left the files in so that modders could re-enable it and people who didn't like it could easily avoid it.

I'm pretty sure Wilson is the only one with lines for Long Pig, but I've seen all the characters say those lines on servers with the Long Pig mod; they must be referencing his files. I looked in Woodie's and he didn't have an entry for it.
