I think surf 'n turf is OP

Recommended Posts

nah, seafood gumbo's way more OP. You can make it with four cooked limpets, which takes what, a minute to acquire? It gives you a big chunk of health and sanity, and a fair amount of hunger.

What, how is gumbo more OP? Replace 1 limpet from your recipe with a monster meat and you have S&T for way more HP and sanity. Plus monster meat is arguably even easier to get than limpets.

Oh, you right, you right. I didn't know you could make S&T that way.

@DreamApart, Apes respawn extremely quickly, and monkey civil wars are easy and result in a net increase in bananas if you are diligent about picking them up before the monkeys grab them (and I suspect that even if they get them, as long as the fighting continues, they'll just drop when they die). I ended up with a stack of 40 bananas pretty easily doing this, and all you need is one from a jungle tree or hammering a monkey hut to start it off. I'd even say it's almost worth pre-building a monkey hut each time you do this so you can just extract the bananas from it for the next round.

Wait so how does this work. i just would like a bit more detail on how this happens. You just friend one monkey and make it attack another monkey. And so the entire monkey population around you splits into groups and fights each other?

You'd think all of them would just attack that one monkey.

@jigggy2000, I usually befriend a few, but I suspect it would work with one. I'm not 100% sure about the mechanics, but I believe it's not consuming the banana when you befriend it, so when it dies it drops that banana, plus the banana that monkeys normally drop. So you can only gain bananas if you manage to get them all killed (apart from bananas they eat, which doesn't seem to happen often if you start a war).

You are joking yes? Abundant describes very little in SW. Seaweed especially, it's present but not abundant, and its so spread out and can't be transplanted it should honestly be worth more calories than berries...

No no, I'm certainly not joking. As someone who likes to fill in the minimap, I come across seaweed all over the place all the time. Whenever I get hungry I just look for them on the map and say "That's where I'll get my food for the next two days."

8 of them, when cooked, is one day's worth of food. 16 Seaweeds, which is easy to do, can fill you from empty.

No they are eating the banana. There is a clearly visible animation where the monkey eats something after he stops dancing. However he will then no longer pick up your loot lying on the ground.

The increase is pure mathematic. It seems that every monkey has a 100% drop chance of a banana. So if you befriend 5 monkeys they are capable of killing at least 5 more monkey, in practice even more because they single target their first foe.

So you start with 5 bananas, get those back from your killed monkey army and get additional 6+ bananas from the wild monkeys killed. --> you now have 11+ bananas.

Sorry to go off-topic but - since monkey wars are the same as spider wars when you're playing Webber - I just wondered if you guys had done this, and noticed whether Webber seems to lose sanity rather a lot when his friends are fighting? I don't have any proof as such, but it was noticeable enough (I thought) that I started trapping them instead... Not even talking about SW here, I just mean in general.

Obviously, there is no sanity loss from starting monkey wars  :pirate:

2 Monster meat 2 Limpets also works. Most efficient recipe I've found for turfsurf based on what I usually have on me (which is a lot of damn monster meat). 40 priority is a lotta priority. Dunno if I think it's OP though.

Omg you're right, it's got higher priority than a monster lasagna. 40 must be a bug, afaik the highest priority food in vanilla DC is Unagi with 20 priority.

Meh, S&T isn't a recipe you're gonna be cooking often anyways. I usually replenish the little HP I occassionaly lose with normal food like meatballs or petals and don't need any huge boosts. Meatballs is the real candidate for a nerf, it's even easier to make in SW than in vanilla and it was broken in vanilla already.

Meatballs were fine in vanilla. Berries or red mushrooms are a reasonable filler. It's Reign of Giants where we first got ice that could be used as a filler in almost any crockpot recipe and stored literally forever in an icebox.

Personally I don't think the recipe or output for meatballs should be changed. I think the best way to deal with the meatball problem would be adding a new, less restorative recipe -- but one that takes priority over Meatballs -- for 1 meat of some kind + 2 or more Ice. It would make soup.

That's not really a Shipwrecked-specific suggestion, though; to make it harder to make meatballs in Shipwrecked than Reign of Giants, just nerf the ice machine.

ice that could be -snip- stored literally forever in an icebox.

^ I'm not sure how valid this is I've found ice I left in an icebox that was fresh in the yellow after a long period of time, maybe I have a mod bothering things but I don't recall having any mods that effect the icebox or ice.

There are always ways to utilize AI or abuse bugs to provide easy food all the time. Hell, even a legit food source (honey) is more efficient than making meatballs for survival. Because of this I personally don't feel ice (or hail, for that matter) should be removed as a potential ingredients in meatballs.
