I think surf 'n turf is OP

surf 'n turf heals very high health moderate hunger and very high sanity, however if you craft 3 crabs and one monster meat you can craft it, this means its far too easy to maintain your sanity and health very easily with basic foods, the only reason my sanity has gone below %50 is when I have been exploring for ages, just a personal opinion. In my view this food item is far too overpowerer, the banana pop and lobster dinner are also very good, but they take a lot more time to get, you can get one monster meat so easily, either with a spider camp nearby or just by the jungle snakes.

You are right, but it is still not comparable to Meatballs,

with there insane food value....and as we all know,

those old ice balls never got nerfed, so surf 'n turf wouldn´t be either.

 

There will be a food nerfing mod soon for SW, we can just use that if we want.

They say you are what you eat, and by this point I'm pretty sure my Wilson is a walking avatar of seaweed. It's far too abundant to have the same stats as a Berry Bush.

 

You are joking yes? Abundant describes very little in SW. Seaweed especially, it's present but not abundant, and its so spread out and can't be transplanted it should honestly be worth more calories than berries...

What I think they should do is raise the ingredient requirements for the Surf 'n' Turf. Being able to make it with a monster meat (plentiful from killing the seemingly infinite supply of snakes) and 3 limpets (about as common as berries, in the beach biome) is absolutely ridiculous considering how good of a recipe it is; it doesn't give a lot of hunger back but its health restoration is huge and its sanity restoration is equivalent to two-and-a-half taffies or cooked green mushrooms. I think the meat requirement should be increased to 3 so you have to put a full-size non-monster meat in there, which would have the side effect of requiring at least one fishier fish than Limpets (but one that still counts as meat, which I think Tropical Fish do?) to fulfill the requirement of 1.5 fish.

 

I'm a bit puzzled by the fact that the Surf 'n' Turf offers the same amount of health as Waffles because it's always going to be harder to get butter than an assemblage of various meats and seafoods; that's the only thing that I think could stand to be lowered, but not by a whole lot. Just to 40 health, like Dragonpie, Pierogi, and Fishsticks. Although if it ends up with the same meat requirement as Meaty Stew plus half the ingredients needing to be fish then maybe the crazy-high health restoration would be justified after all, I dunno.

I dont think its too op as in shipwrecked there is no sanity giving hat and no cooked cacti also green mushrooms are not everywhere. Ofcouse pirate hat is for that but its durability sucks as you always need to make a new one (sewing it would be rather expensive in the beginning of the game)

 

But when RoG and Shipwrecked worlds are connected we will be able to bring tam o shanter which means we will have a nice sanity item but even in that case no cacti, not much mushroom etc are problems as I found myself in a constant sanity problem if I dont equip hat and dont sleep and dont eat these new recipes.. Only way to regains sanity is these foods. But the amount of sanity given would be a bit too much cuz too easy to make a banana pop and u get 30 sanity.

Eh, the sanity restoration is powerful but not a huge deal. You'll be losing a lot of sanity from the constant rain and flooding. If that was the only thing that made Surf 'n' Turf special I wouldn't be that bothered. What I don't like is how it combines excellent sanity restoration with huge health restoration, in a recipe that you can probably make the instant you set up your crockpot.

If it requires 3 crabs its not OP, because crabs need some hard work to catch.

But actually it just take 3 Limpets + 1 Monster Meat.

And it restores the largest amount of health and sanity EVER.

 

And even 2 Limpets + 2 Monster Meat will also make a Seafood Gumbo.

 

Seafood are all OP.

The fact is that 2 monster meats and some fish won't make monster lasagna.

The seafood recipes have a very high priority.

 

Another thing is 3 meat would probably make it quite ridiculous for the low hunger value.

Restoring Sanity, even without food, is pretty easy in SW. Pirate Hat is ridiculously easy to craft with Bone Shard from Spoiled Fish. And everyone seems to forget that the Floral Shirt is dirty cheap (6 Flowers, what a joke) and available all year long. Let's not forget the Sandcastle to restore Sanity.

I wish they add at least one good hunger seafood item to compete a with Bacon and Eggs/Meatballs/Honey Ham if only to have the choice of going RP and eating only fish. The Ice Machine also needs to be nerfed, it makes survival really too easy and you can already get Ice during Hurricane season, maybe add Gears and Ice Gem to the craft.

yes but another factor is being soaked and if you are in an exploration you cannot have pirate hat with u at all times as its durability is low. Pirate hat is too easy to craft because its durability is too bad.

... Why is nobody mentioning the Top Hat? Have I missed something, like it no longer works in SW? I made one and it seemed to work just fine for me during Monsoon, as well as keeping some of the rain off...

It works but depending on your luck it can take a really long time to gather enough Silk for it, like in my current playthough I only had one Spider Den in the middle of a Jungle full of Ape. For half the Silk I can make a Floral Shirt that will restore twice the amount (Reed and Flowers are abundant enough).

So they've redone the recipe for Floral Shirt for SW? Because in RoG it needed cactus flowers, not normal ones. If that's the case then yes, it's great! (Should really use bamboo cloth instead of papyrus since we now have that...)

If you can only find one spider den and it's in a bad location, there's a slow and somewhat dangerous but mostly reliable way to get more. First, let it get to tier three before destroying it for the Spider Eggs and replant them somewhere more convenient. (Make sure the apes don't steal the spider eggs!) Then deliberately allow the replanted spider nest to grow into a Spider Queen, because she'll drop a spider den at the spot where she spawns and if nothing kills her she'll eventually turn into a second spider den not far away. You now have two spider dens.

 

Just waiting long enough (and making regular visits) should cause the original spider den to turn into a spider queen, actually, but both dens will still be in the ape jungle so this is not ideal. It is faster, though.

 

I recommend waiting for the second spider den to mature and then smashing it and replanting it on a nearby island that doesn't have much else going on, so that you have a backup spider source if your only spider farm gets blown to bits by a hurricane or set on fire by a lightning strike or something.

In MY playthrough I have 3 spider dens on my home island and the neighbouring one is infested with the little buggers. Last time I wanted to clear them out 2 dens spontaneously changed into queens that proceeded to murder me.

 

On the other hand I have found only one island with the marsh biome...and with exactly 5 reed plants.

I would add the banana pop to this too. Way easier to craft than meloncicle and way better. Sure, it needs either 4 gold or monsoon season, but once you got the ice machine, you need to kill 1 ape to get one (+1 stick and 2/3 log). Once you know how to kill them, you can get a constant supply of these. (For wendy, there sanity mechanic is disabled at that point in shipwrecked.)

 

Shipwrecked is throwing around too much sanity in crock pot food in general imo.

But you'd be aware that there's not a stable way to get bananas. Killing apes is not easy.
