What's in your wallet? (metaphorically)

Recommended Posts

So, I'm curious.  What do you have in your inventory, and how do you manage it?

I was recently watching the Rhymes with Play featuring the new content with caves.  I am also recalling some of the play I've seen in videos.  It struck me that people don't really handle inventory at all the same ways.  There are at least a few styles, so I became curious about what people do.

So, tell me what your inventory typically looks like, and how you handle it, if you wouldn't mind.  The results of an informal poll will be of interest to me, and might prove useful for people learning the game as well.

I'll start off.

--------------------------------

So I believe in an ordered inventory.  I feel I'm faster at the UI if I know where everything is.  Furthermore it changes order when I get a backpack as I care about what goes in it.  My general rule is that tools go right and resources go left, and food goes in the middle or the backpack.  I will definitely move things into their proper place as I gather them.

From left to right, in my inventory, my order is:

twigs, cut grass, flint, rocks, reeds, logs, pinecones (maybe birchnuts), food, >>>>, tools

from the right to left I order my tools, but only as few as I can, I try to use them up asap:

rightmost is a torch (or other light source), then a trap, then whatever else I have.

Once I get a backpack I fill it left > right and top > bottom as:

melee weapon (usually a spear), log suit, ranged weapon (usually boomerang), football helmet, and then food or maybe tools.

I never seem to have enough space, I probably nomad too much.

Here is what is i do: IN THIS ORDER (inventory)                                                                              BACKPACK

Twigs, Grass, Flint, Logs, Food *a few blanks* Ham bat, minerhat, walking cane, eye bone.            [log suit]  [football helmet]

                                                                                                                                                           *Every other row blank*

*second last row, to the right*  [Rain hat]

[Tam'o shanter] *bottom row*  [rain coat]

So much OCD put into this, yet so messy. Enjoy!

I feel the same, when you take care the order the order take cares of you, I play with joystick, then I like to put the tools near to the right, I then I can change it a bit more fast, the food is always in the backpack, this is not especially comfortable but it grants that if I die anyone will eat my food.

What I carry always depends of what im doing, for example for the caves: I carry a golden pickaxe but not an axe because im not looking for wood down there, if I bring a pickaxe is because I want to destroy some spider nest. When I explore the caves I need some slots of my inventory for the items that I will found, but I bring an armor instead of a backpack, then I just bring a weapon, a pickaxe, a source of light, some flint, some twigs, two slots with food and some structures ready to place, the other slots can be filled with rare and useful resources like slime and bulbs.

I guess with the upcoming update I will need to change my configuration to carry some tell tale hearts and more food.

The inventory is quite balanced, if you think you need more slots I agree with you, you need back to base and leave some stuff sometimes

*sigh*

I don't believe this thread deserves any  responses, but I get it.  Here's mine:

Inventory left to right : Weapons,Tools!!!(cause the hot keys for 1-0 correspond to the first 10 items in your inventory!) torch, misc, nitre, gold, rock, flint, logs, twigs, grass (those last 3 are always the 3 on the farthest right except when I have an amulet) Amulet.

Backpack: Food(cause it wont be eaten if you die) Pigskins(same reason!) Helms hats and armor.

OMG Clwnbaby!  I had no idea the hotkeys for 1-0 were bound to the first 10 slots in your inventory.

That changes EVERYTHING!!!!

(I also do the food in the backpack so it doesn't get eaten when I die, no help for us obviously but maybe it gets to another player)

*goes off to rethink, and replay, a new order of things!*

{edit:  and thank you for responding, despite your *sigh*, it was highly valuable}

Snow Chester (for food and added storage) is an essential for me when doing long-term caves exploration...

----------->, ----------->, -------------->

Weapons and tools in first slots, hats and armor, empty (for picking up things), signature items (like pan flute and reserve weapons like Dark Sword in the last slots)

Backpack = essential resources (2 stacks of grass, 2 stacks of logs, a few rocks for fires/light, and if I could, a full stack of either charcoals or rot)

I like to keep my renewable resources in inventory, and my special items in my backpack. I have never gotten the hang of hotkeys, my fingers just won't move appropriately, so I can't keep my weapons in the earlier slots. My typical inventory, left-to-right:

flint, rocks, twigs, grass, gold, nitre, logs, pinecones, food (x2 or x3), torch (x2), tool (x1 or x2), spear. I wear my armor, and may keep a tool in my hand as well, depending on how full my inventory is.

If I have a backpack, food goes into it, along with weapons and armor. Rare items go there also, like pan flute, gems, nightmare fuel, etc. And Chester's eyebone if I have him. The slots that are now empty in inventory are for additional tools and food.

If I had the decision if I could choose between hotkeys and melon on a stick.

I always choose melon on the stick.

I used to always carry rocks back in my noob days but i never had space so I left them at home, never carried rocks since (not calling you noob i'm just saying i did that when i was new). Why is everyone carrying gold and gems all the time?? Regal tools?

(Haven't played in awhile but I will try to piece together my usual inventory, even though the point of me not playing is to forget these things..)

|Spear/Walking Cane|-|Axe|-|Shovel|-|Food|-|Blank|-|Blank|-|Blank|-|Blank|-|Blank|-|Logs|-|Logs|-|Twigs|-|Grass|-|Rocks|-|Flint/Gold|

Equipped - |Spear/Walking Cane|-|Backpack|-|Football Helm/Tam o' Shanter|

Backpack - |Chester|-|Glommer|-|Blank|-|Blank|-|Blank|-|Blank|-|Pinecone|-|Pinecone|

Pretty sure that's everything. And since I haven't played in 6 weeks that means that the un-learning process is failing me. :<

In the early days, food and valuables such as gears go in my backpack. However when we have a base all that stuff is put away and my backpack is full of hats and clothes, or bees/rabbits if I'm making a beehive/prestihat .

Anything reeeally important but not valuable goes to the far right of my inventory which would be 2 torches and a thermal stone, then tools, but since clwnbaby mentioned inventory hotkeys are on the left side I think I'll have to experiment with my inventory. Resources like flint grass rocks sticks wood and maybe healing salves go in the middle. Pinecones would usually go on the verry last slot to the left, because frogs.
