Caves SHOULD be fixed before brought to DST and here is why

So it´s been a while since I´ve played the single-player of DS, so I need to ask, have caves been fixed yet? By this I mean...Do you still over-heat and freeze in caves despite the fact that caves provide significant insulation from surface temperatures in real life? Does it still rain even though you are underground? Does sanity still constantly as it should and used to?

If the answer is no, it REALLY SHOULD be fixed for DST. Here is why:

Most servers will empty out when Winter and (especially) Summer arrive. Mostly because most players spawn late into Autumn and Spring, and do not have enough time to prepare for the upcoming difficult season. Either that, or they just spend their time burning down the world to keep warm in the case of Winter or tree hoping in the case of summer, until they inevitable get bored and log off.

Also the players that are prepared will also probably log off because the server becomes lacking in any activity and becomes a deserted.

BUT!

If caves were to protect players from the heat and cold, then player´s could just spend their time in the caves during Winter and Summer, rather than logging out. Obviously it´s not ideal, because living in the caves isn´t easy, but at least it´s not impossible (unlike the surface) and they can actually still have fun.

But where would be the f... Oh...

I don´t know about you, but hoping tree to tree during summer and burning everything in sight during winter really isn´t fun (especially Summer).

At least in the caves you can do stuff, that is, if they ever fix it.

If you're prepared, you don't actually need to do that stuff during Winter or Summer.

Ahem...

"Mostly because most players spawn late into Autumn and Spring, and do not have enough time to prepare for the upcoming difficult season."

And then we would have:

"OMG WHY DON'T THE CAVES HAVE LIGHTS ON THE CEILING EVERYWHERE"

"Lights Out is bullshit, who plays that anyway, caves should have a brilliant day cycle."

"OMG this constant sanity drain, caves shouldn't drain you as much as night."

"PvP shouldn't be allowed in caves, caves are more like a coop dungeon."

I don´t think so...I just want caves back to how they used to be, I want them to make sense again.

That right there is your problem.  So in answer to your question No, ABSOLUTELY NOT!  Caves are GREAT the way the are in single player and dont need to be changes in ANY way in regards to temp and seasons.  It sounds like you just need to play more and figure these things out.  First step, don't log out for summer and winter.  You'd be surprised how well you learn to survive these seasons when you actually play them.

A) Caves are great the way they are? I´m sorry, it´s supposed to rain underground? Wow, that makes total sense.

B) I´ve played this game plenty. Of course I stay on during Winter and Summer, but MOST players log off and the server ends up being completely deserted, devoid of any fun and most annoyingly it leads to the admin resetting the map.

I can still do okay in summer. Whirly fans and pretty parasols, m'boy, they work miracles...

That´s simply not true. Even with a pretty parasol and a straw hat (only items you can craft with zero preparation) eventually Summer becomes to hot and you overheat no matter how many trees you hide under.

a) The explanation for the rain underground was explained, the snow melts and its raining above therefore water seeps underground, a natural phenomenon in ACTUAL caves

b) maybe if people spent more time learning and helping each other rather than raping the world and burning everyone's bases down  people would stay longer than the first 20 days.  Making the game easier isn't going to improve the play experience, it will spoil it.

a) Caves drip water from the ceilings, but they don´t pour with rain! The snow forms gushes of water and leaky ceilings. Have you ever been in a cave?

b) Maybe, but that won´t ever happen because it´s DST and that´s just how things are. It really won´t spoil anything, I mean the alternative is having servers with no people in it during the tough seasons, so...It can only really go up from here.

Also it´s not that I want to destroy the challenge of the game. Caves used to have constant sanity drop, but now they have a day night cycle....IN CAVES? What?

dude if its pouring rain on the surface and you go into the caves its only a drip.  Caves in spring can still be abused to avoid the harder rain and the frog rain.  Caves are great in their current form and they are gonna get cooler in Together without adding "make the game easier" mechanics.

In all honesty Together is a sequel to Don't Starve and its own stand alone game.  With that in mind, sequels should be harder than their predecessor not easier.

As for day night cycle, yeah dude, when you're closer to the surface their is light pouring in from the surface.  When you go deeper into the ruins your day night is gone................ so I don't know what you're complaining about.  Caves are great don't ruin them (and I don't even really care that much for caves).

It varies from cave to cave, but I've been in quite a few of them and I agree that the rain -or water drip, that's just wording- inside the caves in DS was ridiculously strong if compared to real life. Overheating inside a cave is also unrealistic, I have confirmed myself that, inside a cave, you feel a lot less heat than outside, they are really cool places even during hot seasons.

Freezing, however, is another story. You can seriously freeze your ass off in a cave. They are cold as **** during cold seasons.

All that being said, I think games should not take reality so seriously, so it's okay if they want frogs raining or trees that stand up and box with you. All gameplay points said are always valid, but I'm not so sure about the 'reality' ones.

In dst you are by default wearing a short sleeve shirt and you overheat. Wearing a sleeveless shirt over that lets you cool off... Its game logic, not actual logic. It's not supposed to be realistic! Like an opulent pickaxe is made out of gold. Gold is soft!

Ps: Go into caves PREPARED.

Oh no, rain in caves is so unrealistic it breaks my immersion. Without it, the game would be a 1:1 copy of reality, with Pig Kings that give you gold, shadows that attack you when you are close to lava lamps, a gigantic cyclops with deer horns that stalks people in the tundra, a staff that lets you cast dwarf stars on the Earth's ground, mutant rabbits living in giant carrots, something exploding out of you when remaining 10 seconds in the dark, or statues made of wood and meat that teleport you to them after you die.

When I see rain pouring down from something that should be a completely enclosed room, I LITERALLY CRY. I'M NOT JOKING. I AM SHAKING RIGHT NOW. I THINK THIS DOESN'T MAKE ANY SENSE IN REAL LIFE, AND IT MUST MAKE SENSE BY ALL MEANS. If you disagree, you are LITERALLY HITLER.

Stop triggering me with your water dripping privilege.

It´s not making the game easier! God I hate when people say that, stop being so close minded and stop it!

Challenge is great if there is a balance, which currently there isn´t. Why? Because caves are not designed to be able to survive Winter and Summer! When they were originally designed, the concept was that it would be a sanity challenge (as your sanity would constantly drain and there was no day/night cycle)What really bugs me is the fact that there are no ways of living inside the caves through Winter and Summer. You can´t get beefalo wool or Pig Skins inside, because that wasn´t originally meant to be a feature.

Winter and Summer were added later and were completely forgotten when the caves were implemented. It´s a bug. You can hear the "day change" at random points in the cave and sanity no longer drains constantly (AS IT SHOULD)

Irl caves do provide insulation from heat and cold, however not fully and there are caves that are absolutely cold or absolutely hot, so there goes that. As for rain, it's intended to be water dripping into the caves, though it is not accurate on how much rain water and the way it seeps into the caves the way it does atm and needs reworking to make more sense.

Caves got seasons with RoG.

Klei thought that since they were making the overworld harder, why not make the caves a bit more hard as well?

And so, caves got their own seasonmanager.

In autumn, nothing happens. In winter, you get cold temperatures, but not as cold as the overworld temperatures. In spring, you get very persistent rain, but only as strong as a moderate autumn rain, not a torrential spring one. In summer, you get hot temperatures, but not as hot as the overworld temperatures, and stuff doesn't smolder.

For spring, this means I have to enter the caves with an eyebrella or an umbrella.

OH NO, ONE SLOT, WHERE I AM GOING TO STORE LOG SUIT NUMBER 7?
