Magical Farms... too easy to get. and makes the game too easy as well...

Recommended Posts

Hi.I been playing this game a couple of days, many hrs a day. the very first time I played this game... i got to day 40. and then i tried to destroy a big spider nest and that didnt went too well...But the game is called "dont starve" and i think getting food is a bit too easy when you get to do the magic farm.In my case, when i found a pig and discovered that you can give em seeds or carrots and you get poop I went straigth for the magical farm, and made 8 of them. without making any regular farms. So much for the "dont starve" issue.... Maybe if you find a way to be required to build a regular farm, and then upgrade it with some item...or maybe add an item to the "materials required" to make a magic farm, like a "magic seed" or something like that wich can only be obtained by farming a regular farm a set number of times. This way you can feel the progresion, and you need to go trough all the farm types to get to the best one. (The magic farm).-Regular Farm: Gives "Special Seed" when harvested a set number of times (5? 7? 10?)-Advanced Farm (Requires "Special seed" to build): Gives "Magic Seed" (1 time only) when harvested a set number of times. (5? 7? 10?)-Magic Farm (Requires "Magic Seed" to be build): Gives "Magic Seed" when harvested a set number of times (20? 50?)this way it will be harder to make a big farm.also, when you plant rabbit meat in the magic farm you get regular meat, wich is lot better, but that feels like an exploit.also, when you catch a spider using a trap, its meat becomes also regular meat. wich also feels like an exploit.there are many easy ways to get very good food and it makes it a little bit too easy.what do you think?

Good feedback. I need to do some thinking on the farms in general. They feel a bit too passive. Maybe meat shouldn't be farmable at all. I put it in because I thought it was a neat creepy idea, but it does devalue meat a lot. Fancier farms *could* just work faster to grow vegetables...

I don't think, the magical farm is the real issue. Excess mentioned it in another post; it's the growing speed of the farms in general. If you get 2 pieces of meat every 3 or 4 days, it isn't so overpowered. Another problems with the farms is, that you can create them infinite. Whats about, when you can build only 2 magical farms? When you want to build a new one, you must destroy/reassemble the old ones. Also, i think, the magical farm could be a special power of one character. Edited by Marvin

I'll repost it here as it seems more appropriate...

I just haven't decided exactly how to change them yet.

May I suggest deleting it? I love a pointy fence in my shruberry as much as my fellow kNIghts, but growing meat on them? Carrot farms are a BIT overpowered, magical farms are WAY overpowered, as in "Dictatorship in a third world country" kinda power.

Either that or make so it takes several days to grow, and that spiders/maxwell can eat your meat sprout before you can harvest it, so you have to guard them at night. That way you can't just leave 6 farms in the dark (thus rendering null the longer-growing-time fix) but you have to keep fires around them for protection. Even then I wouldn't like them. :(

I never use them with meat anymore because it takes the thrill of not starving way to fast. As I said before, even carrots are a bit overpowered. Once I get 4 carrot farms, I'm set for exploring the shores of my map and never think about food for the rest of the game. And I'm talking day 10; if I'm playing "slothy". They just grow too fast.

I vote for acquiring meat by hunting, exclusively; once hunting rabbits/traps is re-balanced. Also, frogs. They're easy meat, and in abundance. Farming meat is... dishonorable :D

you can kill a pig even then, you just need to press ctrl or shift i dont remember, either that or click him with the tool selected. it will give you the "attack" option... and it will become hostile for a while.either case.... i like the meat farm, its creepy and I think that it is a great part of the game. BUT i think it can be fixed so is not that much "overpowered".Maybe if they take (all farms) a while longer in growing AND theres a risk for the crops to Spoil after a while...spoiled crops, or the crows destroying it, and making harder to build farms in general and harder to make magic farms in particular... thats just my opinion...

Magical farms? You mean the turbo farms? Anyway I didn't bother with farms at all short of making the pumpkin lantern to see how it works. The best food in the game is the Honey Ham, its easy to get and fills your hunger and health from about empty. To farm them just plant a couple spider nests outside your base somewhere and just go kill a few spiders for the meat. ANY meat will do though. IF you happen find trapping furry woodland creatures more pleasing then do that but just get a crock pot and add 3 meat with 1 honey. Set yourself up 2 bee hives and you will have all the honey you need as well (make sure they are beside flowers).
