Quanton
Don't you hate it when you make a base and there are resources that you need literally 10 feet from you, but that ten feet just happen to be water so you can't get there by walking ten feet. But instead you now have to walk all the way around the water which takes up a hell of a lot of time. I was think that you could make bridges (they would fall under the structure tab) and they'd be made of planks, rope, and sticks. Thought it would be a good idea. Pyromailmann
That would be cool. But bridges should only work when there's land.Other than that it'd be used to go outside the map. Because sometimes the map geometry is on the list of things that hate me and want me to die. EDIT: And this should be in suggestions and feedback. MenaAthena
I like this idea! I think bridges should only be able to go a few tiles before though. Just long enough to reach close pieces of land. I mean you can only make a bridge go so far before you have to dive to put supporting posts in to keep it from collapsing.Or maybe not. I'm not a bridge building expert. Sarcen
You can make change land into ocean, or ocean into land making bridges using the console (Just learned how) With collision working properly? I know you can turn land into sea with collision working properly, but the other way around does not seem to work. I know you can turn land into sea with collision working properly, but the other way around does not seem to work. If you know how I'd gladly like to know Actually, any land/sea swap won't recalculate collision. So you can still walk out onto the tile that used to be land but is now sea, and can't walk onto the used-to-be-sea tile that's now land. Restarting the server recalculates it, though, so if you're okay with restarting every time you make a bridge, I suppose that works. If you turn it into sea and call TheWorld.Map:Finalize(0) it will recalculate collision and it will fix the sea walls. But for some reason going from sea to ground does not have the same effect, it might be that the walls do not get removed, because the pathing engine does think its ground. I guess it could just be totally breaking stuff as I have no clue what Finalize is actually doing underwater . Sarcen
@Sarcen, What about TheWorld.Map:Finalize(1)? It didn't seem to do anything different, the code usage uses Finalize(1) when its caves. I've tried using that when having wall textures pasted on the ground, but it does not seem to fix cave walls either, so I'm not sure what Finalize(1) really does different. rezecib
@Sarcen, Oh, hmm... I incorporated it into my existing tile-setting function and tested a bit. That's odd that it works for one direction, but not the other... Tried a number of things and couldn't get it to work for sea->land, although I checked GetIslandAtPoint, GetAboveGroundAtPoint, GetPassableAtPoint, deploying stuff, and it all seemed to think it was land. Just not allowing movement...function c_setTile(newType) local pos = TheInput:GetWorldPosition() local x, y = TheWorld.Map:GetTileCoordsAtPoint(pos.x, pos.y, pos.z) local oldType = TheWorld.Map:GetTileAtPoint(pos.x, pos.y, pos.z) TheWorld.Map:SetTile(x, y, newType) TheWorld.Map:RebuildLayer(oldType, x, y) TheWorld.Map:RebuildLayer(newType, x, y) TheWorld.Map:Finalize(0) TheWorld.minimap.MiniMap:RebuildLayer(oldType, x, y) TheWorld.minimap.MiniMap:RebuildLayer(newType, x, y)end Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/48338-bridges-d/#findComment-597505 Share on other sites
Sarcen
@rezecib, I think it simply creates collision when you finalize, so, if you keep calling finalize it probably creates duplicate terrain collision. There must be a function somewhere to clear it all so you can recreate it. Asparagus
I say if they want to build a bridge to nowhere, let them. A bridge to... bridge... the gap between land masses... ... And add a way to make your own land mass... You could expect the recipe to make one square of land mass to be:Rocks x 40Poop x 20Boards X 10It can be built over water (to fill in the odd water areas in the Mosaic Biome)... It will have no turf... and you can rule it with an Iron Fist... levying taxes on any who step on it. And so it shall be...
