Boar Head
Just started a new game on the the new Update 4 build. Went for a detention center, happy to see Nika in the cell...what I wasn't happy to see were the insane amount of guards inside the room. I mean I understand it from a logic standpoint as to why there would be that many guards guarding an agent but from a gameplay standpoint it was just insane the amount of fiddling and awkward risks I had to take just to be able to move Nika out of her cell. I say awkward risks because I had to keep moving in and out of guards' LOS to attract them to a new position so I could reposition Nika. Inside the detention room there was: a captain, 3 regular guards, a forcefield guard and a camera drone. Look at this. I wish I took more than one picture but oh well: http://cloud-4.steampowered.com/ugc/545258778446329188/85BEE670E8F5C0C0B2ED38F06C647FC55F6DC0D7/ The captain wasn't that bad because he was looking at the door and I just lured him in to take him out and the camera drone I could somewhat reliably continuously hack, I say somewhat since to make matters worse I picked parasite as my starting program to see how it would do, didn't do me any favors in this mission. I did manage to beat the mission with all the characters barely since Nika got downed just outside the elevator room and when I revived I almost had a heart attack when I saw that I couldn't move her on the same turn I revived her. But luckily when the guard spotted her again on his turn he initiated overwatch again which let me get her through the door during my turn. Now while it was quite exhilarating clicking the End Turn button after 5 mins of thinking each and every move I did feel like at any moment things could go bad if a guard decided to check the wrong spot at the wrong time and I did get lucky a couple of times. daimonahte
At least your detention centre had an agent in it, look at all this security for some random beardy bloke. Five guards, plus the captain, all in one room. Well, at least it made looting the rest of the level really easy! Slightly off topic but as you can see I was lucky enough to get Nika from a previous mission. However, after the mission, she didn't re-equip. Is this intentional? It kinda makes sense, and helps nerf detention centres a bit, but it means that her special ability was pretty pointless until I was able to get a volt disruptor from a security despatch,
Yarrr
Wow that's nuts. Here's to hoping the new throwable item is a knockout gas grenade.
jimwinsor
Wow I have yet to get a DC mission, but if those screen shots are typical ... forget about it!
Sphingx
It's times like that when the XCOM Commander in me wishes Shalem packed a rocket launcher instead a rifle... though that really wouldn't be stealth anymore, would it?
Boar Head
Yeah I don't know how much I'm going to risk detention centers, this was only Very Guarded as well on the first day. With armored guards or 180 vision guards I don't know how exactly I would get someone out of there unless I'm just super well equipped. I spent 3 alarm levels just getting Nika out of the room and I was just looking immediately for the exit afterwards which luckily wasn't very far. HolyDeath
I don't think it's just detention centers. I think it's a combo of mission difficulty and level layout.
Pineleaf
My only Detection Center mission was much saner (the usual single guard). My mission was listed as only Guarded, so that may have made a difference. I did see that the prisoner had 8AP instead of the 5AP he had in previous builds. That made getting out quite a bit easier. Yarrr
The one I did was guarded difficulty and had 3 guards, so guess you got lucky.
ildarz
I don't think that there is some connection to detention centers or last patch. I have encountered similar hell several times before, it just bad luck (or good if like extreme challenge ).

I mean I'm really not sure what I think about the room layout to be honest. Because while it provided a very nice and welcome challenge I'm not sure if it should be that hellish...at least not at Very Guarded. Maybe on Heavily Guarded or Extremely Guarded sure but Very Guarded should be like 3-4 guards maximum including the captain.
Eji1700
Just did a guarded detention center. 4 guards in the room with the prisoner. Screw that and left. Honestly they really don't seem worth the risk at all right now, as I could get money on any other level, and if i get unlucky it's basically just not possible. Worse if you get a lousy prisoner instead of an agent. I'll likely only be doing these late game or if i feel i have no other option right now. Zhuzha
Absurd amount of guards for "very guarded" level may be the thing for Detention Centers now. Just had a mission with four regular guards, one 180 guard and the captain in one room. Previously on the same playthrough I had just guarded Detention Center, which had only the captain guarding the cells.

Developer Jason Posted October 17, 2014 Developer Share Posted October 17, 2014 At first we thought this was just RNG sadness, because we hadn't intentionally changed anything to create these guard heavy detention centers. But after investigating it, there is a crazy soup of effects that tends to make this happen. You could say it was a procedurally generated bug. We are working to fix it in upcoming updates. Uberosh
100% This possible. U can skip this level - go to elevator. I without problem ended on (normal? - before easy difficulty) with 2 agents and Shock Trap III, x2 Neural Disrupter II, x2 Stim III - maxed out upgrades on Banks and Internationale. This my impossible situation:No Guns, No Incognita (because Null Drone block it), No items to Hack something mannualy - 1 turn to move, after in room enter 3 drones...One way - through Unhackble Beam Wall, no other way.= Ragequit
5thHorseman
Not a detention center, but I recently had an executive suite with one door (with no cover near it), 3 guards who never looked at the door, and the exec looking straight at the door. Oh, and I'd scouted the ENTIRE rest of the level and the exit elevator was nowhere to be found. That's right, it was on the other side of the executive's office! Personally, I loved figuring out how to do it. I had to get one agent shot to lure the guards out (as soon as she went in, they all turned to her when exec saw her). Then the guards were no longer patrolling and I was able to lure them one-by-one through the door where my other 2 agents (thankfully I had 3 that mission) took them out. One agent dragged one guard on top of another to keep them out, while the 2nd agent stuck the downed agent with the fix-em-up juice (medkit, whatever) and then went back to sit on the 3rd guard. Then, the previously downed agent went in, knocked out the exec, and slowly dragged him to the elevator while Incognita probed his brain. As soon as I got the goods, it was a quick and easy run to the elevator for my daring getaway. While 5 guards standing still is way too much, please don't remove the chance for something like this in the future!

ketman
Yeah, I just had that for a useless beardy prisoner. I lured the first three guards out and downed them, and then walked in to find two more. The bigger problem was that this was my fourth or so beardy guy in a row. These missions are too much a roll of the dice. I'd like to see the RNG adjusted in favor of finding an agent after each mission on which you get an orange-jumpsuited guy out. DrMeat
...My solution to this is not going to Detention level before you get two super agents on board. At least Max Stealth, two or more weapons for each agent. For level like this, it cant be all guards at Patrol status, so lure the Stationary ones to turn around will reduce the difficulty a lot.
