J20hawkz
This is what I am suggesting for Don't Starve. Just so you have an idea of what a Dining Fly is, here is a linkhttp://www.your-camping-guidebook.com/dining-fly-setup-instructions.htmlBasically a substitute for roofs. These are player crafted items requiring twigs, silk, rope and hound teeth. Simply it provides 100% rain resistance when stood under. The downside to this, to prevent turtling is that it has durability. I thought it could last for 120 seconds during rain. After which it is destroyed and all materials lost. However the player can repair the Dining Fly by using silk?It can't be too large as to allow the player to move around and gather resources. So what do you guys think? DwerBomb
Only 120 seconds?Plus it should also protect you from overheating Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/34885-dining-fly-or-dont-starve-equivalent/#findComment-453507 Share on other sites
Karuboo
I also had an idea like this since we're usually waiting out the night at base under the rain. You should be able to open and close it to save durability much like the ice fingomatic. J20hawkz
Only 120 seconds?Plus it should also protect you from overheating120 seconds seems reasonable. I don't want to encourage turtling. Plus it will require a good amount of silk to keep it up in constant rain. So with enough silk you could keep this thing up forever. Tumalu
You could also just plant a tree to stand under in the appropriate spot in your base. They have a life cycle and don't provide 100% resistance even at largest size, but this already seems like a more balanced option. LuisLzn
I like the idea, i wish i could build something similar but with more durability or either permanent like a roof or something like that in my base, so the stuff in it and i won't become wet during rain but yeah your idea seems to be balanced and not that op  Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/34885-dining-fly-or-dont-starve-equivalent/#findComment-453970 Share on other sites
TheActionAss
i dont think i would ever want to craft this when i could just make an umbrella Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/34885-dining-fly-or-dont-starve-equivalent/#findComment-454417 Share on other sites

So with enough silk you could keep this thing up forever.  It's not going to encourage turtling, since there isn't much you'd actually be able to do while under it. People aren't going to stand next to a fire through all of winter, even when they have enough fuel for it, Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/34885-dining-fly-or-dont-starve-equivalent/#findComment-454545 Share on other sites
Kittiko
I've wanted one of these since rain was introduced. I support this. Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/34885-dining-fly-or-dont-starve-equivalent/#findComment-454550 Share on other sites
Kellyc764
I don't think it will encourage or prevent turtling to be honest. I like the idea of it, but I would say it should definitely last longer, otherwise as others have suggested an umbrella is just as good? I mean the only thing you're going to focus on is keeping Yourself dry, if it's not up long enough and not big enough to cover anything substantially then isn't it just going to be a stationary, low tier umbrella? I really would like to see this in the game, I can see it being useful in situations especially spring. But I think with the crafting recipe brought up to that of a tent or higher, make it last longer, and make it movable so that players are able to erect it when they get too wet or on an occasional overnight mining/pig village trip and take it down again. To clarify, I also think it would be extremely useful in summer too if it provided cooling (the shade of it). It strikes me as something that could be put up during summer, say for instance when you're overheating, but you've got a whole bunch of pigs nearby chopping wood, pop it up to cool down some, take it down, continue. I also like the idea of it requiring silk to repair as that is a resource that becomes quite abundant pretty quick. jangofet
I think it should last for 3 days, be repairable by silk, but lose twice the durability when raining. Also flammable. Joshpro8423
this is a good idea.and yes that is probably good too.And maybe if it breaks when it is raining, water should pour onto the player and completely drenching them, discouraging turtling. J20hawkz
Thanks to everyone who has shared their ideas and opinions of my suggestion. I particularly like the idea of a mobile Dining Fly and making it slightly larger to cover a nice sized area. Durability wise I still think it shouldn't last too long in the rain. Obviously when left out with no rain then it doesn't lose durability. Does that change the opinion of some now? Overheating wise, I like that too. Obviously it can act as a shade so that is good also.
