Stingers are basically worthless so we need more recipies with them!

Recommended Posts

Yeah, well, Title says it. Stingers lay around on the ground after fights, you cant burn them and you can only create sleeping darts with them wich is hard enough to make when you often rather build Blow Darts with the reeds you find. You pick em up to clean the ground but they take up space and yeah.

Maybe some kind of Spear? Armor? Ammunition? Clothes? There's gotta be something.

Stingers in a trap would make sense. Basically like a tooth trap, but you need more than one stinger. Or just one stinger, but the trap is weaker. Or it sets the enemy asleep, which would be awkward. Forget that part.

At first, i read the title as "Stingers are basically Wortface" And i was like... uhh, frogs? And now i'm like: That's a good idea for it to be in more recipes. Stingers are worthless if you dont like sleep darts.

And nobody like sleep darts.

Stinger Turret

Cost: 3 cut stone, 2 planks, 2 bees

Tier: Alchemy Engine

Looks like: A podium with a cage in top, with 2 bees moving around in it

So, it acts kinda like a chest, but you can only place stingers in it.

When an enemy is nearby, it shoots stingers out rapidly, kinda like a houndius shootius.

It uses up the stingers in the chest as ammo.

It's pretty much a cheaper houndius shootius.

Enjoy!

Good idea! But it does need to deal less damage then a hondius shootius, because I usually end up with hundreds and hundreds of stingers, so that would be way too easy I guess

Maybe Syringe?

Like, it restores health at the cost of sanity... and maybe it slows you down a bit for like 1 minute ^^

Syringe Sting

2 Stingers + 5 Sticks + 6 Grass

Health: +15

Hunger:  0

Sanity: -15

"The bleeding means you're hurt."

Eh?

I was think about sonething like this:

2 stingers + 1 mosquito sack + 1 hound tooth (instead of glass)

Health: +3 each 3 seconds for 33 seconds

Hunger: 0

Sanity: -15

Special effects: slows you down 10% for 1 minute.

I like the idea of a low-tier turret using stingers as ammo. But it should be made with magic instead of alchemy. I mean, c'mon how are earth are bees gonna fire stingers as projectiles? Also, I think instead of normal bees, the recipe should require the red bees instead.

Also, this would be a great chance to make wasp hives a more "inviting" challenge to undertake, by having wasp hives drop a "damaged hive" or something like that. So the recipe(s) would be something like this:

damaged hive x2 + planks x4 = hive turret*

cut stone x6 + hive turret* x1 + killer bees x4 = stinger sniper*

(*names are tentative)

The stingers fired would do about 10 dmg per hit, but the fire rate is high enough to be effective at killing single targets. hits may/may not stun lock targets. (could vary based on targets. Turret only targets hostile targets, or targets being attacked by player.

Thoughts?

Indeed... Stingers are quite alike-usage wise- as Nitre, since Nitre was used in 1 thing, but now it's used in new recipes in RoG. They are one of those items that I drop to make room for different things. Maybe a BEE blowdart? It could be a RoG new recipe, and will pretty much shoot out a killer bee to home in on the enemy you shot it at? Would be a bit useless, but fun!

It would be cool if you could use them for the bee-mine or maybe a build-able Maxwell's tooth trap or mosquito trap.

^This. I have a stack of about 200 stingers, my OCD doesn't allow me to avoid picking them up.

My suggestion is something like a bee mine. Only instead of launching bees it shoots out these stinger bullets.

@spencer totally agree, I originally thought they were for all blow darts types and after purging my world of killer bees picked them all up only to find they were useless unless I wanted to try and do the sleeping darts which I didn't see much point in... wasting ammo and resources only to have to wear done a weapon to seems a bit silly

Am I the only one that thinks the stingers make more sense in the sewing kit recipe?

Needles have been traditional made out of bone, so actually bone shards make more sense. Stingers could be used for the pins in a sewing kit, but I doubt anyone wants to make them more expensive to craft. Personally I would still prefer some sort of trap that shoots out stingers and requires refilling, kind of like the flingomatic on the fuel is bee stings.

Taking the time to make the sleep darts and put mobs to sleep only to have them wake up immediately after hitting them one time is a waste of time. Some kind of trap would make the most sense to me, not sure about a turret. Maybe a spike habit.
