Oh look, another Poll!

Today I want to tell you what I think about the Cave system

I don't really like them :/

I mean, I build tons of expensive light sources for what?

For two levels of caves , a rook on sterioids , expensive magic accessoires and other stuff for which I need to fight trough a horde of armour destroying monsters while I need to keep my sanity up and some light so I don't get eaten by the Grue?

Don't get me wrong, I think most of the Monsters are pretty cool but THOSE SPIDERS!

But I also think the Caves are boring to the max,(And the terrain generation doesn't really  the only thrill I get when I'm in the caves is the fear that my light sources are gone before I reach the cave exit. Well, back to those damn spiders, yo! Sometimes there's no Ararchnid everywhere in sight, but when you meet one, you know there are tons of other spiders nearby which will spit projectiles so long until they break your armour while you can't properly hit any spider because they keep spitting things at you!

Let's not forget the ruins!

I like the ruins, the design is cool, the statues are creepy, the worms are nice, and the clockwork wrecks aren't so frustrating like our eight legged friends which I mentioned above. But the boss is just disappointing.

I expected some sort of ancient robot, a giant worm, a cthulhu like creature but not a bigger rook with fur! But the loot is pretty neat, but I wish I could take these ancient stations to the surface, but there are mods for that.

Sorry if I sounded too harsh, but well that was my opinion about the cave system, and I'm aware that I left out some creatures and other things, but the reason for that might be that I never really meet them or that I like them how they are

And you what do you think about the caves? Leave your opinion below!

oh no, you released the Kraken....hah

Anyway, I personally love the caves and ruins area, was very fun my first time getting down into them.

The only thing i wish differently about the caverns is the depth, deeper, deeper, deeper haha

which I think my mod team worked out how to make the caverns deeper, we have yet to test the coding yet for it.

The caves do need some work.  I find that there is no loot down there worth dealing with the worms now.  Maybe if the ruins offered something as significant like an equivalent to Chester (a crystal golem bodyguard for example) it would be reasonable.  Most of the craftables have durability and are generally frivolous.

I find the ruins boss interesting.  Lots of people seem to be knocking him for thematically not being what they were expecting and/or just a rook ripoff, but it just makes the gears turn in my head.  I hate it when things are brain dead obvious.  I love thinking about things that are just different and don't imply you just feel some static emotions in the positive or negative sides of the spectrum.  I don't question the shadow creatures because they just want to kill you.  Scary monsters!  Freak out!  I don't see any reason to wonder further.

The Guardian is only a ripoff of the rook from gameplay prospective.  The lore is not clear given what we know so far.

I really like the caves. That said, I also agree with a some of what DeadpanQuinkan has to say in the sense that the potential rewards from the caves and the ruins aren't worth the risk. If a player's goal is to survive as long as they can, they're simply better served not even opening up a plugged sinkhole, which is kind of what you'd expect considering the design of the caves was for the caves to be completely optional.

I would say it's hard to justify using such a rare and nonrenewable resource as thulecite for consumable armors and a weapon, but then when you look at the other options... it really is kind of the best place to invest thulecite, generally anyway. I kind of wish the rewards for going down into the caves were better.

And you know the ruins do feel a bit sparse. I would've loved to see what it'd have looked like if Klei had the resources and time available to finish the original scope of the caves, ruins, and lava caves.

What are you guys talking about the rewards aren't good enough?! If they got any more powerful than a near-unbreakable armor and a helmet that gives temporary invincibility, it would go to a whole new level of game breaking. They aren't super difficult to survive in, as long as you know your stuff.(stuff being aware of the nightmare cycle, hiding in the snurtle shell armor, etc.).

Now, the other items however aren't much good. The Theuclite club was a complete letdown, just a craftable tentacle spike, and the others aren't all that useful apart from the lazy explorer. But really much more power would be making the game too easy.

I wish the poll included a "I just don't like them" option xD

I've been down in the caves a few times, only once to the ruins. My trouble is the caves is something to do after I've got my entire set-up polished. There isn't any incentive to go into the caves early - It's not like I need something from down there for a drying rack or crock pot.

I typically camp near pig villages with them, and unplug them to make use of the bountiful guano, but typically don't go down there or near it during dusk/night.

And at every point I've gone down there (Usually day 80+) I've faced tons of depth worms, which I think really should be staggered further back seeing as the first time I'm down there on day 80 I face 3 (Didn't even know what they were first time I saw them o.o)

I can't say I know too much about the caves, I've made it my mission to avoid them because imo they're inconsistent with the difficultly and reward of above ground.

-Bunnymen don't interest me, never made a fur roll, never intend to.

-Different spiders with no extra loot

-Rock lobsters that act as extra shields (Don't need in caves unless for depths worms, have an army of pigs above ground)

-Slurtles/snurtles seem too rare and inconsistent on every venture I've made it make it worth farming

And I can't say I've encountered any of the other mobs, nor is there any reason to search them out >.<

You can argue the rewards are really great for braving the caves, but there is no requirement for such OP things such as the shooting eyeball thing (Name escapes me I'm afraid) or the upgraded weapons/armour. Log suit, football helmets, tentacle spikes/hambats suffice most above ground instances. It's quite possible I just don't want to make the game even easier for myself in the long run (backwards logic there lol)

The caves certainly add a level of depth and exploration the game needed, but they could use some polish. Once I'm done with the ruins and getting all the fancy resources I need, I find little reason to return.

Perhaps a new crafting branch with rare gems beyond the ruins can help solve the issue, like some expensive armor that trades durability for a shock/explosive/spike ability that hurts whatever creature that manages to hit you? It could help with rampant worms, those things always destroy me in large groups.

I like the caves! I'm hoping someday, that if I hit the right lever, Batman will slide down a pole and say hello :D

(if anyone spots a lever like this, please let me know)

In all seriousness though, I do like the caves. I find the ruins make for a good balance, and the sanity decrease/different mobs make most adventuring a game of "do I dare go further?"

I don't like the caves I go there (like others) when I have topside polished out OR I have depleted my rock supply and only to get rock lobsters to breed on the surface. Bunny men I use to farm spiders or protection from were pigs (built between base and pig village but really little need for whatever else is down there... tho I want to make the amulet that boosts speed and gives you light but I have little use for that be cuz by them time I start utilizing the caves I have most everything I need on the surface and torches are easy quick fixes to night gathering if needed

Caves are....meh, there really isn't any reason to head into them for survival, unless you run out of rocks on the surface.

Yea it's supposed to be a challenge but again its completely optional, and I'd rather head through adventure mode because at least then I can unlock new characters and a bit of lore

It just seems like a resource sink and just makes me go mehhh
