What about the pigs? Beforehand they would call you names such as "ugly monkey man" and they do possess some intelligence, so why aren't they being attacked then?

They stay inside their houses at night. If you befriended a pig and didn't make a fire it'll run away to another light source and eventually run back to you the next day.

There are definitely other light sources to be found. Pig houses for example. One morning I found my pig gang camping outside another pig house for no apparent reason : D Then I remembered I never made any fire that night, I used torches instead.

All these theories about Charlie seem inaccurate to me, so I thought of this:

Charlie is not scared of light at all. She is scared of being seen for what she has become. At night she has the advantage to attack you because humans can barely see in the dark. Charlie doesn't attack during the day because you have the advantage to see her. This explains why certain night-vision-beavers don't get attacked Same goes for animals, they simply do not understand the purpose of judging somebody which makes Charlie spare them.

Sleeping makes you harmless and unaware of Charlie's presence, perhaps she feels relieved to not have another puppet roaming the world. The latter could however be completely false as Maxwell obviously has made his own ridiculous rules (when he could kill anything instantly.) Maybe he simply decided to allow his puppets to sleep in peace.

I launched DS and went on a house-destroying spree near my camp. No pigs spawned on the destroyed houses and neither did present pigs stay at those locations for no apparent reason. Where lone pigs go during the night is apparently something Klei didn't consider an urgent matter of programming. You're simply over-thinking the theory.

Maybe Charlie doesn’t attack pigs because, even though, they’re intelligent, they’re not on the same level as humans. Besides, they seem to think, all humans are ugly, and because of that, their judgment might not provoke Charlie to attack.

Charlie was Maxwell's assistant and it is speculated that she was transformed in an accident during a ritual.

 

When attacked by Charlie while playing as Maxwell, he will say "Charlie? It's me! Maxwell!"

 

On the picture "Charlie" is holding a book. It is believed that the book is the Codex Umbra.

 

When Maxwell inspects the Codex Umbra, he says "I'm so sorry Charlie."

 

So Charlie become a simply shadow monster, with no umanity at all, attack everyone just for eat, or maybe fun, like the shadow that keep maxwell prisoner, a destiny perhaps even worse of maxwell's

I always figured it was because she didn't want to be seen. The werebeaver can see in the dark so she will not attack because she can be seen. Much like that man standing there in the corner of your eye, disappearing when you focus on them but all the while making you uncomfortable when you're not. 

Seeing is believing and how would you believe such a sweet young lady is capable of such things? 

You don't because you haven't actually seen it.

Seems that the accident has distorted her so much, both mentally and physically, that the only human part that remains inside her is ashamed to be watched.
So she attacks only when she is sure to not be seen.

I don't think she attacks for eating.

I don't think she wants to attack either, it's like she is forced by some kind of evil power inside her.

In fact, people do not die in the exact moment they enter in the darkness...

She waits a bit... Like if she tries to avoid killing.

Or maybe she's just trying to find a body to use to go back to life... Or to Maxwell. But fails everytime due to the strenght of her shadow form.

Maybe the reason that Charlie doesn't attack the Were-beaver is because he's a monster, similar to the spiders. But as soon as Woodie becomes sane, or "good" the Grue wants to kill him.

That made me imagine a new enemy, a pigman with a torch attached to its ass. It walks backwards at you and farts, and the farts burn you.
