I got a pretty good laugh out this (Ps4 Trophies)

Recommended Posts

It's pretty silly to hate on a game because on Trophy is tedious. I don't think it has anything to do with any of us playing better or worse than these folks, it's more about them getting upset over something completely optional which does not affect the gameplay in any way whatsoever.

Yea, I'm just saying to each there own. However you want to play the game, sandbox, adventure, trophy hunter, it's all the same.

Nope, in game. These are two extremely easy trophies to get, so i don't understand all the fuss.

Oh and all this hate on trophy hunters? Really? Just because someone plays a game a little different then you One: Doesn't mean they aren't enjoying the game or Two: doesn't mean they aren't just as good as you "pro's." Ease up on how people enjoy games... We are in the same boat after all, eh?

If you saw that thread it was pretty much filled with people hating on the game and the developers because of this one trophy. Everyone can play how they want but it's pretty hilarious that one tedious trophy can make you despise and instantly disregard a game.

It's less about hating trophy hunters and more about how the devs were forced to put trophies in the ps4 version even though they positively hate the idea of achievements.

I dont get what all the hate is on trophy hunters. I mean, I consider myself to be a trophy hunter because I find games to be stupidly easy now a days (atleast for console) And to me having trophies is a way to measure your level of skill, patience and dedication to a game. Take some games from ps4 for example. Black flag, battlefield 4, killzone shadow fall, knack, NFS rivals, which are some of the most popular ones. Out of those 5 games I have platinum on 4 so I can honestly say they are all extremely easy except for killzone which was a bit of a grind for multiplayer, but still easy. No challenge. So what if I take those trophies away? Then what? It will just feel like an incomplete game with very little effort put into it because if I go through a game in a day then thats exactly what I feel the game is, something incomplete. Beat the game on hardest difficulty then play a bit online then get bored. But what about those like me who want an additional challenge? Who look for a game that will bring out blood sweat and tears? They dont make many games like deamon souls, ninja gaiden, catherine, bayonetta, wipeout, cod waw, etc (all on hardest diffulty) anymore because people complain too much. So someone like me who really enjoys those type of games have to resort to either playing ranked games online or going for trophies because otherwise its just plain boring.

So really, there is just different types of gamers with different ways that they play. I am really enjoying dont starve because out of the 7 or so PS4 games that I have gotten to 100% this is probably one of the most difficult for me which make it one of the most fun. I just wish there were more trophies, something like complete adventure mode in less than 40 days total, or complete adventure mode with Wes. Or kill 20 enemies within 20 seconds. Or kill a boss with no weapons, or beat adventure mode without crafting anything. Hell I dont know Anything! Something crazy. To give the game that little bit of oomph that it needed. Then by looking at peoples trophies\achievements I can tell, I can tell who the real champs are, those who have been to hell and back like I have on those almost impossible games. That to me, is where the real players are at. So again, I dont get where all this hate comes from, is there something im missing?

But isn't the solution then to forget the trophies and call for demanding games again?

And it's not against trophie hunters per se. It's because of the reactions to a trophie which is obviously a joke of the developpers who were forced to implement trophies they never wanted to implement.

And some of the posts just state they would hate the players by doing this.......? What?

I'm not a trophy hunter myself but I have no problem with the people. I'm just offended by a big chunk (not all) of the reactions. It looks like trophies are ''everything'' about a game. Take them away and a game is ****....come on....

Yes, you are missing something, actually: Skinner's Box.

This, I assume, is why Klei didn't want acheivements, and decided to go for mastery instead. If you want a sense of achievement, take a video of you doing something difficult and surviving.

Also, the only reason this thread popped up is because the hate started on their end, not ours.

Yes, I (and for the most part, everybody else here) do not hate trophy game players, we hated the trophy game players who made this so much Drama over there to say they would quit/never even play the game over one small part of the game. (And adding my part, not even seeing it wasn't as long as they originally though jumping the gun and riding that bullet to the Island of conclusions if somehow you could read that original Ps thread, and get past page 4.)

They missed it all right and yes, (as it has been documented many times how) Klei didn't even want this Accomplishments thing in their game which had no game purpose to it, but were legally obligated to.

But any post that involves psychology (Operant Conditioning) and Extra Credit webisodes is a plus posting in my book!

I'm seeing a recurring point pop up, and if it's not nipped in the bud it could get out of hand.

Nobody in this thread is hating on trophy hunters in general, finding the over-reaction of this very specific thread of trophy hunters worthy of mocking is different from finding trophy hunters in general worthy of mocking. People are beginning to ask "why don't you people like trophy hunters?" The simple answer is it's not that we don't like trophy hunters, it's that we don't like these trophy hunters; the people in that thread are dismissing the quality of a game solely because of its achievements, and that's just silly.

Those of you who poke fun at trophy hunters seem to think that YOUR view of trophys is the ONLY view people should have. The fact is that a massive amount of people like the trophy collecting aspect of games, and are just as puzzled as to why others don't like collecting them.

Only as much as anyone else thinks their views are the only one people should have.

Personally I loathe the trophy system because it's a dangerous trend.  The more focused on trophies that players become, the more game developers are going to realize they can use trophies in lieu of game content.  And anytime a trophy is particularly difficult to get, the trophy hunters complain, so there's also a trend for insanely easy trophies.  Those trends combined and taken to the extremes, you'll simply be handing cash to game companies to directly earn a badge.

In addition to probably diluting content, it also takes the focus off the content. Anything that does that has the potential to go south, fast. The funny thing is that trophies and achievements have fantastic potential to make sure a dedicated player will experience some of the great little Easter eggs hidden in a game (like the H.E.V. charger in Half-Life 2!) but often get out of hand to the point of simply being insanely frustrating (like that thing with the gnome in Episode 2).

I would like to add that I am not bothered about the fact that getting wes is required to get a trophy, what is racking me off is that I would like to have a go at playing the game as wes, but I am getting BORED AS HELL trying to unlock him, so much so that if I don't unlock him soon any pleasure I might have got from playing as wes is not going to compensate the hours and hours and hours and hours spent finding him.

I don't.. can you.. do those words go together? I didn't know they could be written in text in that order. It's like saying "I have never had a Krabby Patty."

Hello to all. I am indeed a trophy hunter, but if I don't like a game, I won't finish it, even for the trophies. At the moment I own Killzone: Shadow Fall, Battlefield 4, Contrast, Resogun, and of course, Don't Starve. Out of all my choices, Don't Starve has been the only game I've been enjoying more than any other PS4 title I own. I've been playing the game nonstop since it was released and I'm loving it. This is one of those games I can play for a long time and not care about collecting all trophies (like Rock Band, Guitar Hero and Rock Smith). My only problem IS finding Wes. I do fairly well with the game and I read that Wes is suppose to be a character that makes the game more challenging. The only horrible thing is that he may be way harder to aquire than actually using him in the game. I would love to try him out, but at a 1%, I guess that will never happen. So can anyone that does have him tell me if he really does make the game more challenging, or finding him is more of a challenge? Thanks all, and great work Klei. Can't wait for the DLC.

@VandalHeart383

Glad you are enjoying the game.

The 1% thing was incorrect. But in the process of investigating why people were having such a hard time we found a bug that was making it real difficult to find him.

I hope the guys on the site enjoy this. =D

I tried, but somehow got stuck in a recursion loop between the two sites.

I don't know why.

I clicked your link, then clicked your link ther...WAIT A MINNNNUTE........

Since I'm ranting and annoyed by the playroom on my trophy list, I'll give you this.

It's annoying to a lot of people that we have a trophy list in the first place.  It takes the fun out of gaming it causes you to play games that you no longer enjoy just to earn the trophies.

Then along comes Don't Starve, with their seemingly impossible accomploshrine trophy that takes about 45 minutes to hit 725 times.

Those of us with OCD or Asperger's didn't get that trophy because it was enjoyable or fun, we did it because we "have to" or it will "annoy us" to eternity.

Then along comes Wes, who didn't spawn after 100's of attempts.  Now you still want me to play and enjoy unlocking Wes?  It's nothing more than a chore and not enjoyable at this point.

If you really "don't like" trophies, then you should have made easy trophies that basically mean nothing, other than promoting and encouraging a whole bunch of people to play your game that otherwise would not have.

But, buy having trophies that are actually IMPOSSIBLE through glitches and then VERY ANNOYING thereafter, like making us respawn the world to get our Maxwell portal back...

Well, all you are doing is alienating people who might love the game, and alienating people have already put way too many hours into the game... after I finish the trophy list for this game, if ever, I might play this game a few more times for fun, but after that, my chances of buying the #2 of this game are seriously very low.

I believe they've fixed Wes's spawn rate. I don't know anything about the Accomploshrine as I don't have a PS4. From what I've heard though, couldn't it just be something you tinker with while waiting for night to pass? Resume normal gameplay during the day. Why it has to be done all at once baffles me.

Then again, I don't think I've ever 100% cleared a game Trophy/Achievement-wise in my life.

I really don't think Klei cared about the nature of trophies to begin with. If Sony did not force them, they would not even exist in the first place. If Klei is forced to put something in that is against their game design, they may as well make a joke out of it to reflect the exact reasons why they never wanted to do it to begin with.

Wes' spawning was already fixed. He will always spawn on world 3 as long as it is not the Two Worlds chapter.

They definitely didn't care - it's easy to tell just by the flavor text of when you craft an accomploshrine. It's something like "Oh I feel so much more accomplished now!" or something like that. But that's their right. Not only is it a knock to achievements, it's a middle finger to being forced to make trophies when they clearly don't want to. and I think it's great. Like you said, it's a joke. and the humor lands.
