Items you never seem to use - but could be good?

"She's not hard to play"

Well, DUH!

She was meant to be second easiest character after Wolfgang...

Are we talking pre-Powers? Because post-Powers Wolfgang isn't the easiest character. I figured the easiest would have to be Willow, since Sanity as a mechanic is hardly a threat and her abilities both before and after Strange New Powers are meant to give newer players an easier time of things.

Your posts always seem to have this "this is totally obvious and you should know that" tone to them.

Pre New Powers:

OP tier: Wolfgang

Good tier: Wickerbottom

Powerful but only if used right tier: Wilson, Maxwell

Pretty minor change, but still useful tier: WX78

Useless tier: Willow

This power will kill you even if used right tier: Wendy

Made to be hard tier: Wes

After New Powers:

OP tier: WX78, Wickerbottom

Good tier: Wendy

Powerful but only if used right tier: Wilson, Maxwell, Woodie, Wolfgang

Useless tier: Willow

In my opinion Willow always was, and will be useless, she got a charm, she is my second favourite character and all, she was the one guided by player most of the times after failed Wilson attempt, but her ability is still useless, Sanity IS NOT a thread, unless in ruins, and you can't go around and burn stuff in ruins, New Powers made Willow even worse, nuff said.

Maybe the lava caves update will make her more useful, I don't know, we have to wait.

I'd have to say Wilson would be in the good to OP tier since the beard is a very simple mechanic that can make any winter a laughable issue and it makes meat effigies an earlier game item than it is for others

Woodie isn't too hard but it gets very tedious, Wolfgang is definitely in the right place, Maxwell I can't comment on.

I'm not sure where Wendy would be though since "sanity is laughable" to quote many other forum members but abigail is basically a whole character on its own with upsides and downsides

I used to like Willow because my first real death was Wilson getting burned up because both exits in the hound trap were on fire - I suppose I should have just run for it immediately, but there were still hounds left.  I guess since caves came out, rock is now so plentiful you don't even have to worry about saving every last scrap of wall, so I build the trap corridors much longer.

Abigail is kinda the reason she is in good tier, she basically has a free summon, not a sanity draining and health losing minion like maxwell, she is basically like a Maxwell, sanity is not that bad for her, she has summon like Maxwell, and she shouldn't battle alone, because battle with her takes forever.

I've been playing Wendy for a while now. Abigail really changes the game a lot in a good way. She helps aggro stuff to her and lets you run, but if you push that too far, she dies and you have to go back and get her flower to summon her again.

Abigail has let me be really risky with the hounds too. I've been caught out of base twice now and she draws their fire enough to let me survive.

I really can't see why everyone consider WX78 as an overpowered character. You start with stats lower than normal and the gears can be very hard to get,and you have to fight the machines with 100 HP only (That's less than Wes) .Sure,an experienced player can do it in the blink of an eye but a newbie one can't. You will also need to get down to ruins or be very lucky on graves if you want to fully upgrade him.

And Wickerbottom is on a good tier, the inability to sleep takes away the most efficient way to restore sanity and again, reed isn't something easy to get for her books, but having the science machine itens already prototyped sure helps a lot in the early days.

But this is just my opinion, don't throw rocks at me please.

On topic: Darts. That blowdart is really powerful but i never make it. I love to kill Wee Mctusk with his father's weapon, sweet revenge...

i rate the characters like this. order from best to worst

Wx

maxwell

woodie

wendy

wilson

willow

wickerbottom

wes

the reason wicker is so low on the list is that except for her books, everyone else can duplicate her powers, which makes that pointless in a long game or even adv mode.(maxwell is so high on the list because high sanity regen is really helpful in a lot of places, and he can wear the best weapons/armor in the game with no problems)

(notice wolfgang isn't even in the list, thats cause  i just don't even like the current character concept)

Up to about day 80 or so that works. Then the hounds come 7-10 at a time, and often in the middle of the night.  I've survived a few awful nights running around a small campfire waiting for daylight and pig salvation - but I've also died more that way than any other (well, until the Caves came out).

It works several hundred days in as well.  I've never needed a different strategy.

You and I aren't going to get along so well now.

I've always wanted to use blowdarts, but i never do make them for some reason, i guess i just dont feel like setting down a bunch of traps to get a redbird feather to make fire from long range, when i could do it with a torch close range

EDIT: Walls. I know if I could just place them in a satisfying formation they would be incredible assets to me, but I can never get them to look right and just end up going full Tarzan mode.

You're on your own on that one. Almost everyone uses walls to make bases, panic rooms and ranches. They are one of the most useful (and most used) items in the game.

Silly, you don't fight Clockwork beings...

that's what the Rook is for, doing the work for you, and you mopping it up when done....

You and I aren't going to get along so well now.

I do like Willow, she has a great personality, but the fact is, her powers are useless, yet!

Lava Caves may put her in good tier.

If anyone wonders, why Wickerbottom is in OP tier, she has a freaking tentacle bodyguard, she can set up a hound trap in no time, she can get a free food, easier feather getting, pan flute without madrake's!

If she is not OP, I don't know what she is.

Why are you discussing characters when this thread is about items?

Wait, why are you discussing characters at all since it falls down to personal preference? It's like fighting over which is better between blonde, brunette and redhead girls.

I traced it back to a suggestion or two when people have items they don't use that would complement certain characters. It got out of hand by the looks of it.

also another item i never use: Bee mines, powerful but not really worth it in my opinion

Another item i don't use frequently but it's very helpful is the orange amulet.

Once i used it to pick the logs from my forest farm. I saved a lot of time. And i would use more if it was renewable. For now,the orange staff is more worth spending the orage gem.

Well, here's an item I never used to use, but have really embraced: blow darts.

Tip, forget bird traps, use the ice wand. You save massively on seeds, can target only blue birds, and blue gems are overflowing once the hound attacks ramp up.

You need a good source of reeds, but wow, a stack of 15 blow darts and you can take on a lot of things w/ very low risk.

I actually stumbled into this because MacTusk kept dropping them when I was trying to get his tusk. I started to use them and it was eye opening. I don't use the sleep or fire darts much though.

Don't forget the mega sanity you can boost up with foods and tank bosses all day long...if you wished to do such a thing. Or just set up a base in a swamp :-)

Oops, page 3 is here....oh, and the Pick/Axe I never ever use it but it sounds like something I should.

And don't forget something to restore your sanity if a frequent Ice Staff user.
