CycloneSP
So, it seems that I managed to do something odd in this game... I think I've acquired too much food. I had recently spent the last in game week to preserve 2 stacks of meat with drying racks (used up a ton of resources to make 14 additional racks to my original 6) but my base didn't have the room for the new racks so I had to place them at my farm near my beefalo herd. Anyway, after I just barely manage to salvage all of my meat from spoilage, I return back to base and begin putting things in order when I notice in my icebox I have 16 monster jerky and 16 monster meat all in the yellow zone. I quickly make some crockpot recipes and start drying what remains of the monster meat, but I'm afraid I may not be able to consume it all before it rots. What do? (did I break the game?) aredshroom
You know, despite the game being called Don't Starve...starving is almost completely always the least worry on your mind. x'D After culling my overgrown beef herds, I've about 200 meat hanging (oops) taking turns to be hung on racks. x: Even without a modded world, it's easy to be drowned in food after a while. aredshroom
You have 200 drying racks? No, but the jerky brings rotting meat to full freshness anyway. I hang as much as I can, then hang the rest when their freshness goes down. Most of it was spent on pigs to farm trees and other things though. I quickly make some crockpot recipes and start drying what remains of the monster meat, but I'm afraid I may not be able to consume it all before it rots. What do? (did I break the game?) BTW, this is known as the Humble Brag.(1.) But yes, there is a point in the game where if you kill too much or harvest too much on the farming, you can have too many resources. With meat, feed it to the bird in the birdcage and make eggs or make ham bats and Meat Effigies. For the Effigies, you must use cooked meat though and not Jerky. Rotting eggs can be cooked and fed to the bird for fresh eggs. And make sure when you have Green-leveled duration jerky, you save a good chunk of it for winter too. besides making it into Honey ham, Jerky alone is awesome for both sanity restoration and its own duration for winter. But yes, it's much more prudent to save a majority of it on the drying rack. but there's nothing wrong with that Cold box extra as long as you have a meat replenisher, especially if you have multiple Crock Pots with unharvested foods refreshed when you use them for meals. The popular 1 monster meat 1 meat (or 2 morsels) and 1 ham (and 1 filler if need be) or the 1 meat (or monster meat) and 1 morsel plus 2 eggs (or 1 Tallbird egg and a filler if needed) makes the much better for harvested duration bacon and eggs, but does heal about 10 less health (off the top of my head. ) With crops, feed it to the pigs to make manure. Again, keep some on the farms unharvested for winter emergencies. If you have a certain crop you like to use, feed it to the bird to get that crop's seeds and plant that to grow it. Just remember to store 2 or more aside to feed to the bird to make more seeds to replant that crop. Dragonfruit is done this way but for those who go pumpkin cookies, sometimes a pumpkin crop is also harvested (if you are fine with healing, than taffy is OK instead.) Assuming you can't use it as suggested previously in your OP and in the other user's replies of course. gnarlytreeman
more dry racks, it's not hard to land in a pile of food, me i get to busy playing the game and forget to actually use any of it so i mostly rely on dry racks cause if it's in the fridge i can't see it. btw use the moster meat to make were pigs to kill for pigskin and 2 meat, makes laundering the monster meat a longer process but it's easy to get 12 pig house or so up and keep them dead plus yields better quality fresher meat. I also use Touchstones' pig heads since I always have lots of wood and stone as well. 2 touchstones=four houses if you have the wood/stone. Once you have pigs, you can feed meat for pig armies/four monster meat werepig 2 meat 1 pigskin conversion. gnarlytreeman
yeh thats a favorite tactic of mine as well, or hammering pig houses that are in areas i never travel anyway. i used to play in a more world conservative style, trying to to destroy structures and such, but over time i've come to the conclusion that only certain areas of certain biomes are important, everything else should be deconstructed to serve the player better. with that in mind i've been able to get some really nice bases setup by day 20, this was mostly a change cause of adventure mode play, i finally beat it w/o alt-tabbing at all. Once you've mapped the area (don't touch them until you have just in case,) destroy the straggler houses as 2 houses equals one created pig house. Of course, once you have "too many pig houses," make a pig your buddy, and lure them to their death for meat...oh wait, this is the too much meat topic, nevermind Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/30403-too-much-food/#findComment-390175 Share on other sites
gnarlytreeman
haha yeah, well sounds like what this guy needs to do maybe is build more crock pots and dry racks i've seen some of your bases they are way bigger than mine i tend to use 20 dry racks and a max of 6 crock pots, and just launder anything that gets too old with the bird cage into eggs for cooking until they go bad then hey! free gunpowder ingredients! after all your only gonna starve in this game if you can't get a base setup by day 20 anyway. this guys "problem" really is only that he needs better laundering methods than just cook it to food, i mean if i start the first winter with food in the freeze i pretty much just explore and hunt stuff all winter, test tactics etc. personally i find grass and twigs to be more of a pain to come by and even those aren't hard. i just spend them too fast is my problem. been planting around 100 twigs and 100 grass, and the grass pretty much stays spent all the time, and i use the excess twig for fire fodder. the only real shortages after getting decent at base creation should be nightmare fuel during winter(cause tam keeps sanity too high) and bunny butts(cause all the other mobs eat them, cept mosquitos) Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/30403-too-much-food/#findComment-390178 Share on other sites

Too many frog legs, too little time.If that's even correct grammar.I don't see any grammatical errors, and I commend you for using the correct to/too. If you're having a problem with overabundance of meat the obvious solution is to feed it to the Pig King and end up with an overabundance of gold. That, or play Wes/Wolfgang. You really CAN'T have too much food with those two. Misaki
"Starving is ironicly the smallest problem in Don't Starve" - Everyone who is saying this should be slapped.Literally everything you do involves getting food for survival, if "not starving" is the least problem then stay at your base and never hunt for food, we will see how little problem that is. vimrich
My base is perfectly self sufficient. *cough*nerfhoney*cough*bridcageop*cough* Agreed. Honey and birdcage and you eat whatever you want just from monster meat and the few odd bunny morsels. Honey ham and bacon and eggs are my faves, plus chicken nuggets if I have fruits or veggies to use up instead of morsels. Birds give you fresh eggs from old dried meat. So you recycle: old but not yet rotten meat onto racks, store the dried meats, when dried meat about to rot, then feed dried meats to bird, get fresh eggs. You can also keep a pile of seeds fresh by just recycling them through the bird as well.
