I'm torn...

So, I'm playing as Wilson. I think this is my 4th or 5th "life", and I'm to the point where I'm never going to die short of standing next to a Tentacle or swarm of Hounds/Spiders/angry Beefalo on purpose. I'm on Day 160-something, 6 chests full of Crock Pot-cooked goodies, 10 chests full of at a partial stack of everything you can currently collect, a heaping pile of about 35 unused Tenctacle Spikes... you get the idea. I'm "done".

I hear you asking, "Alright, way to brag about how great you're doing, so what?" Well, here's my dilemma:

Do I commit suicide and lose about 4 (long) real-life night's worth of work and hoarding in order to get a metric buttload of XP and (hopefully) unlock the last 2 characters all in one go? (I really want to see what Wendy and Wolfgang are like, Willow doesn't interest me too much)

On the one hand, I want the new characters, and starting a whole new world that I don't know like the back of my hand, to see if I can survive Hounds on Day 6 and that sort of thing is getting more and more appealing.

On the other hand, my existing world is safe and comfortable and I get that satisfying feeling of "I conquered this world. I have everything I could ever need - and then some - and I'm free to go wherever and do whatever at a whim."

What do you all think? Throw away my hard work for a fresh start on a new World and new Character, or "extend my lead" and continue decorating my Wilson uber-camp and see how high I can get that Day counter?

I'd say base your decision on how bored you are with the game you're in. Ask yourself what exactly your accomplishments mean to you and whether they're part of a bigger project. Since it's not Minecraft I can't imagine you have one, so I say chalk it up as a win and get to playing Wendy and Wolfgang. They're both quite fun and amusing.

I let Wilson get a warm friendly hug from the nightbeast at around 110 days, not necessarily for the new characters as Wilson is still my favorite, but because I had gotten to the point where only a series of horrifically stupid mistakes could kill me and I wanted to experience some of the recent changes with a new save and a new world. I don't regret it at all.

Go for a fresh world, the game will become a lot more interesting again. The feeling of having conquered a world is great, but it quickly turns into boredom when there is nothing left to do in that world. Also try Wolfgang, he is a lovely tank.

Haha, I've practiced so much "hit and run" in this game that I rarely get hit anymore, so I'm not sure how helpful Wolfgang would be.

Also, sounds like the consensus so far is "start over", but I'm still having a hard time bringing myself to actually go through with it. =/

I am actually in the same situation like you OP, and share that problem. My world is all settled and done, and at this point, I don't think I could permanently die to anything, I have tons of amuletts, backup effigies and all the food, walls and materials one could wish for.

the new gameplay seems a lot more tricky now, and that is appealing, but at the same time I feel like "I am one of the last happy guys wth working treewalls and stuff", and I am not sure if I want to loose this. ATM I continue with my old life and am not ready to kill myself, but I really would love to try out "the new game" too... decisions decisions!

I found a way around this problem

I have the chrome AND the steam version of the game

Two worlds. Two characters and two different ways i can play. My chrome runs all my -this is an experiment- runs and Steam runs all my latest update fun and exploration

I get around this by having multiple computers to play from. A desktop, a laptop, and the computers at a friend's house since he never uses Steam. Although I'm nowhere near the days where you'd contemplate suicide. I'm around day 30 or so on my original game, and have spent my days amassing charcoal and morsels, for when I eventually go nomad in search of the pig king, as my flint stores are dwindling.

Yeah, I could also "save scum" and turn off Steam Cloud for this game and then find the save files and copy them to a different folder and so on, but meh. I just decided to knock down my Effigy with a Hammer and go play a friendly game of tag with the nearby Spider Nests that I, uh, planted a while back.

Not regretting it so far, Wendy is a pleasant (and melancholy) change of pace from the generally more optimistic Wilson. I do miss that magnificent 50-day beard, though.
