So new tools are infinite or that's a bug? looks like they don't lose durability when you work with them at all, but lose 25% if you fight with them, also they're more effective when heated and warm you like thermal stone

Cold axe cuts tree in 15 hits, heated axe takes 10

they are functionally thermal stones. They are infinite as long as they are warm, their current temperature also determines how efficient the tool is. When the tool cools down it will lose 25% durability

Fixed being unable to click on objects behind WX-78’s shadow drones.

Could this functionality extend to planting plants as well? The drones get in the way a tone when trying to plant grass tufts, saplings, berry bushes, etc, and it'd be really nice if that was less of an issue.

Im not sure if it appeared because i gave charlie the keystone, or if its just there now when you put in the atrium key, but either way it looks like potential lore relevance...

Also just realized its a placeholder cause it looks like just a scribble

It is a scribble :D

Amazing! Thanks so much Klei!

PS: I would really like to see more crafts that require gems. In the late game we have PLENTY of them thanks to surprising seeds/fumarole trees, but we do not have anything else new to craft besides the early game crafts (I do consider the pseudoscience station's crafts as early game now lol).

Can we maybe have some luxury decorations that requires gems to craft?  That would be awesome!

Really cool stuff. I'm excited to see what's planned in part two!!

The lore implications for the Keystone are really interesting! Once given to Charlie it seems like it'll socket atop here. I guess you need both lunar AND shadow parts to activate the finale. How exciting!!

I wonder if there's another part to this update as a true finale... The reason I'm saying this is maybe you require the scion for one key and the future shadow boss for the other and then the true finale being you needing both keys for a true final boss as a true final raid boss to challenge even veterans... We shall see....

As you guys know, we spent a bit more time on WX-78 skill spotlight than anticipated, so we've decided to split the Shadow arc release into two parts.

This is alright, especially considering that we know that they've been working behind the scenes on a brand new DS game, but can you guys please confirm that part 2 will come directly after part 1? The intermission teaser was released over 9 months ago, and this update was already postponed once before now. Speaking as someone who loves character skill tree updates, I really loathe the idea of part 1 setting the stage, followed by a character tree, and then midsummer carnival update, and then another character tree, and then hallowed nights, and then winters feast, and THEN part 2.

The delays have made it feel more exhausting than exciting. Delays happen, most of us understand that and would rather an update be good instead of rushed. I just want to make sure that part 2 of the already delayed update will be top priority over everything else.

I'm excited to see where this goes, it's looking like the payoff will justify the time it took us to get here. Let's finish this arc strong

I watched a video from @BiddoBams, and discovered what the Polished Orb Fragments can be used for currently:

Socketing them in the Telelocator Focus, then using one, allows you to choose which Focus to specifically teleport to if you have multiple. The Polished Orb Fragments socketed in the Telelocator Focus aren't consumed when used.

  • Shadow Hands will no longer target Night Lights.

Night Lights don't emit any heat, but flingos still target them.

It'd also be cool it they worked like Maxwell's lights in singleplayer, turning on when you get close enough to them and off when you're far away. Would really make them a great long-term light source.

I think they meant that more in the lore-sense, rather than gameplay

except how would that be communicated in game-play? it would be weird to say "this leads to new worlds" but then either locks the player out of going to said new world or allows the player to leave the existing game world.

please don't think i am trying to fight with you it just feels like it would not be mechanically viable

What a phenomenal beta! The final sanctum room is beautifully designed. Might be cool to drop some sort of in-game hint about that one armor piece that's especially useful here (spoiled below).

The tools are a fantastic early-game addition. I think the drop rate of the thermal paste from geothermites should be substantially higher, maybe 50% or more. The tools can potentially last forever if left at Dfly ponds, fumarole biome, or furnace, but the goo is also used in a consumable so it'd be a considerable grind amassing enough for that.

Can't wait to grind for some much needed cave teleportation! Perfect late-game addition IMO, hopefully that function can remain after the boss loot gets reworked.

Excellent work! Looking forward to the rest of the beta.

It’s not impossible, I’ve played games that I can’t even remember the names of where after 100% beating the game the player is very briefly dropped into the follow up’s environment to get a glimpse of it (usually in the form of a cutscene but sometimes in actual gameplay, which is followed up by cutting to the games credits & a general “to be continued….” Message.)

If I can remember right single player DS had a sort of “Until Next Time..” message after beating it too.

Just to be clear if it was added it would be an area that is NOT playable, not explorable, it’s just a small couple seconds tease of what the next game holds.

It's funny that to continue the lunar questline, you have to kill three mutated lunar bosses. And to continue the shadow questline... you also have to kill three mutated lunar bosses XD.
Or even six if you don't want to run with spark ark four times from Archives to Sanctum and back.

Added Heat Gland that drops from Geothermites, used in new crafts.

I love this change.
I remember when geothermites were added, I proposed adding them a unique heat-related drop, which would be the meat equivalent of fire nettles and could be used for some new crafts.
So I'm incredibly happy that something like this has been implemented :D

I dunno, I just wish we saw shadowy stuff for the shadow rifts, not more lunar themed stuff. Tying lunar progression (spark arks especially, though the entire ancient sanctum is basically just an expansion of the archives which has always had lunar themes) into shadow “progression” really shows to me that they didn’t really ever have plans to make shadow feel like a real counterpart to lunar in terms of progression or feel, and that makes me feel really disappointed…

The fact that the shadow progression isn’t even really able to go anywhere unless you go through lunar first is such a slap in the face to me, I thought the whole point is being able to choose which side you want to progress independently and now this update just feels like yet another expansion to lunar progression instead of adding something unique for shadow. Just adding a final boss for shadow isn’t really enough, at least to me, and it’s very unlikely a part 2 will do anything to help that fact.

that sure dont make sense, why would it need moon rift for shadow rift stuff? it could been just pure horror or something for it, maybe the possesed shadow heart? so shadow rift is still just its own thing that dont randomly need something midway from the moon

I don't really like complaining or anything like that, but I completely agree that from a gameplay perspective, Spark Ark is a very bad decision(although it's clear that this is quite appropriate in terms of the plot)
