Someone correct me if I am wrong but won’t “next year” be the actual official Ten Year Anniversary of DST (for consoles?) I hope we get a big update like DS’s 10year if so! If nothing has changed, you will have to move Pearl to mainland first (so lunar rift activated and 3 different mutated bosses killed), and then you need to decorate her new area with stuff, and gain so-called "decoration points". You unlock new buildings from her at 10, 25, 60 and 90 points
So that is a rough summary of it... I haven't checked if klei changed anything with the system, but I hope it is largely the same as beta

Seriously though I'm not sure if the wording is supposed to be intentionally misleading or not, flowery is closer of a word. One day we can dream of dried leafy meat and barnacles... not sure why it still hasn't been added

Why make most of these new structures endgame? Something so cozy shouldn't require something more hardcore like practically beating the game. I think people would really enjoy having this right at the beginning, without worrying about rushing things.

You need to beat the celestial champion and the three mutated bosses, and then do the wagstaff quest to move her off her island onto the mainland specifically.

I'm always very critical when necessary about certain aspects of the game, but I'd like to congratulate you on the work, the small details done with great care. Yeah but, Fortnite updates are free too. I really feel like we shouldn’t forget that just because it’s free.. shouldn’t mean we shouldn’t expect quality, and I for one do not particularly feel like beating several end game bosses to relocate Pearl & decorate her house.

Honestly think I’d rather play Labyrinthine with my Fam, and that’s heartbreaking for me because DS/DST use to be my favorite game EVER. It’s just not moving in a direction I was hoping to see the franchise go within. I am most certainly NOT doing all the tasks it takes to interact with the new WintersFeast stuff.

Yes, and that's what I mentioned in another comment; if they made this content available early in the game, it would be perfect.

But let's not compare a game like Fortnite, which has 1 million players every day, with Don't, which has an average of 22k on Steam. Of course, they could do many different things. I think the choice to follow the current lore has hindered a lot of development (it seems like they're taking a weight off their shoulders by finishing the arcs), as well as the skill trees. But to make impactful changes like Fortnite manages to do, it would require programming that the game currently doesn't support.

This isn't just decoration. This update brings powerful items that significantly impact gameplay. I understand that the balance of these items lies precisely in the stage at which the player can access them (late game). And late game is a rather strange concept, since in less than 2 years of playing it's perfectly possible to be in that stage of the game.

Exactly. A ruined update from the start, and it would have been more comprehensible if it was content you know, very end-game. Something that helps you resolve new stuff and dangers, but no?

In reality all that content is very questionable, because it doesn't equal at all "end-game".

Gonna disagree heavily as an endgame player myself. The items you get are genuinely very game changing. The large salt racks make farming salt significantly easier and makes things like salting meat/Warly's salt spice viable to mass produce, the teas benefits are immensely useful (from having season protection with the fire/succulent teas being great for winter/summer, to the (in)saniteas making for extremely effective sanity/enlightenment manipulation) and the combriner having very handy recipes, such sack being nice for portable wetness drying, the upgraded ice staffs pushing the power of a great item further, and the couch giving a universal warp option for every character. Those are immense upsides, and nothing to sneeze at!

I do think it's also important to note how impactful dried vegitation is, as I don't see many people talking about them. I think a lot of people write off them as a step to make the teas, but they have a number of benefits well before you reach that arc, especially pre rift. Keep in mind that every dried vegitation also cannot spoil as well:

-Dried fire nettles retain the merit of their undried counterpart of heating you up considerably for a minute. This allows for an emergency source of heating (especially since after it wears off, you still need to freeze again, giving you an actual time of ~90-100+ seconds per nettle). It also synergies nicely with insulation gear, which you'll probably be rocking at this stage in the game.

-Dried tillweeds are the best non spoiling healing option in the game if your character lacks a dietary restriction; they heal 20 HP and use the quick eat animation, making them fantastic as a healing option you can reliably stockpile throughout the game. It competes very well with existing options, and even scales well into the post rift phase if you scale your tillweed farms well. These got nerfed in an update after writing these to only heal 8. It still makes them good, just not something I would actively seek out.

-Dried forget me lots are still viable crock pot ingredients: you can still make the soothing tea with them, turning the ingredient that's normally the most cumbersome into one that's readily available, and especially combined with the dish needing 2 other never/very long lasting ingredients, makes it an extremely reliable dish to cook for sanity restoration. I'm pretty confident it also works as an excellent filler ingredient that doesn't trigger the inedible tag, and you can even eat them raw for 5 sanity a pop (not very much, but it's important to remember it's non spoiling properties!)

I think there's a lot of situational use for the new items, and I really do like them. They give rise to more niche playstyles that I can totally see people run and be pretty successful with. It helps give people more options than blend in with the crowd of traditional ones, at least in my opinion. Heck, this update made me do avenues I thought I would never do, like intentionally keeping lord of the fruit fly alive and using its minions to cultivate various weeds for messing around with, and reinvigorate areas I hadn't used in a long while, like my large drying rack build that was previously dormant for awhile. It's really nice when the game revitalizes options in ways that make it more interesting to tackle!
