I'd say yes. Howlitzer requires too many inventory slots to function. A one stack of teeth can deal barely 2,5k damage (to non-planar bosses) when Gloomerang, with single repair kit, can deal up to 10k. A simple tooth container would greatly improve this item.

Larger inventory size would definitely be the first change id make but i wish it could also accept moon glass as ammo even though the item is tooth themed.

You can go through a full stack of teeth so fast in exchange for not much damage. So unless u have a varg farm you’ll run out of teeth very quickly if u want to use the item often.

Thats another really negative aspect of the howlitzer vs gloomerang.

Moon glass ammo would alleviate this and be two birds with one stone since moon glass piles up with not much use.

How about howlitzer using special ammo made form hound teeth and moonglass, while we are at it throw in some joke about enamel. imo it would fit.

The main issue is the limited stack size of hound teeth, alongside the fact that hound teeth aren't very easy to amass in large quantities without a varg farm. Add in the fact its competing with the bearger bin for your first spark ark use and it becomes a pretty undesirable item. If hound teeth stacked up to, say 100, and killing a varg dropped 20 teeth, with a possessed varg dropping another 20-40, then I could see it being a little bit easier to use, especially if varg spawn rates from hunts was made higher whenever a lunar rift was open.

Howlitzer is a powerful item with fixed damage of 68 regardless of the distance and without the shooting delay that Gloomerang has. The game has 3 distance attack weapons on one side and only 1 on the other. Only improvement that should be in storage capacity in my opinion.

you can't craft hound teeth though.

But you can get an absurd number with varg farming. Anyone who wants to use this item has varg in mind.

is much easier to just get kits, not to mention you can dupe materials

There's an easy way to get an "infinite" amount of hound teeth. Are there easy ways to get infinite Dark Tatters and Pure Horror as well? If so, please teach me, because I want to learn too.

It's not easier. I've farmed vargs and know the absurd amount they can produce in minutes of play. And I've also duplicated items. I know the ease and difficulty of each technique.

Here is the proof of infinite quantity (6:47).

Give me the expanded capacity howlitzer and I will die happy.

I do wanna clarify a bit about varg farming as someone who has built several, and that's that Varg farms are a massive, massive undertaking that likely needs several ingame years to prep/complete. Bypassing the need for needing Winona catapults if you want to farm several vargs at once, you still have to go hunt all the vargs, build a setup to warp/farm the vargs/hounds with, and maintain the farm itself. I myself have run the 20+ setup and I usually have to specify specific times to run it that are outside of the hound wave intervals while making sure no giants are approaching. I have also had several experiences where something broke and I ended up needing to replace the part of said setup that did break (I have lost the catapult boat twice so far, and that's a particularly annoying part to replace...)

It's also important to note that varg farms are very demanding for a server with multiple players, and most servers usually don't have one/run it at very specific times to avoid stressing the server out and creating a much laggier experience for other players.

The gloomerang might have like, ~80% of the power of the howlitzer and therefore be a bit weaker, but the cost to maintaining it is like 1% of the effort needed than it is to go and build a massive varg farm to supply the sheer amount of teeth needed for the howlitzer. This makes it the much more tempting option, especially to more Laid back/"Regular" players.

If Klei allows infinite storage (2^32), farming Varg will certainly be a great option for a single weapon in the late game. Five days of farming can guarantee the player several years of gameplay with nearly unlimited ammunition to defeat all bosses.

And speaking of the late game, it's pretty obvious that everyone will deal an extra 51 damage for each projectile. If Klei allows the Stinger to be used with 34 damage, for example, we know the actual damage will be 34 + 51.

If the devs increased the storage capacity to 200, it would already make the item super powerful. A total of 23,800 damage [200 x (68 + 51)] would already eliminate most bosses.

Its important to remember the gestalts from the crown have a delay before they hit, and can miss. Moving targets will avoid a solid chunk of the gestalts by moving even slightly, and ranged combat in particular will have them moving constantly due to the rework of projectiles not spamming the hitstun animation anymore. You’ll still get some value out of the crown, but you’re not going to get a consistent 51 damage per hit unless the target stands completely still, which is much more likely if you are fighting the mob with a melee weapon.

I would like to clarify that I am not contrary to an improvement in this item. How to do this without breaking the game?

Damage was never his problem (34+34). With the 5 jewels it is even more powerful. Problems are the difficulty of achieving ammunition and their storage capacity (in inventory or Howlitzer itself). We know that the problem of the amount of Hound's tooth can be overcome with Varg's Farm. If Devs allow the use of Stinger, just create a world forcing the Killer Bees Plains biome, increase the amount of Killer Bee Hive and use abigail to huge amounts and very easy to ammunition. Only the problem of the ability to transport this item is missing. If I could use Elastispacer with the same effect on the chests, i will have 4,294,967,296 projectiles in a weapon.

Гломанг гораздо лучше подходит для ежедневных сражений, чем гаубица, потому что для неё не нужно создавать ферму варгов

She's strong enough and useful enough as it is. We can spend a ton of teeth.
Gloomerang simply too op.

Primary issue is holding all the ammo. Some kind of hound's teeth ammo belt would be cool. Given how much work it is to set up a Varg farm I think it's fair to ask for something like that.

if only we had a gadget to increase storage space
