Do you think Don’t Starve Together would benefit from having even more characters added?

I wouldn't mind if other characters get the places though ^^ I am happy with the Wagstaff and Charlie staying NPCs for THIS version of the game.

(Also scalie characters = :love_heart: )

You mentioned Reptilian, which exclides Wurt (I think) but also scaled which does include Wurt. So... does she count for your desires?
I know a Merm is a fish human... thing but they are definitely amphibious which isn't reptile but it's something?

Would be ok with Wilba tbh

I also want any way possible to implement hamlet houses into DST, I love building with them

Updated wilba and a pigmen rework would make a perfect update

no, bytheway salamanders are not reptiles, there amphipians

yeah but they don't have scales. Wurt is fish... thing, so she does have scales but is amphibious because fish/goat/human... thing.

so i dont see the reptilian

I agree that it'd be nice to have the character grid be filled out but at this point what is there even for a character to occupy?

Skill trees are already forcing characters into new niches and powerfantasies, there probably won't be much left to explore once the rest gets their skill trees

I guess the character pool still has space left for a character that could be clothes-focused. Like a semstress that refuses to wear anything that's not made by her. And while her crafts are harder to make, they offer better perks than regular clothing

While I'm generally inclined to say no for many of the reasons already said, namely character update fatigue and skill trees being stupid. There would be one exception to that. Despite spending several years creating and developing the ocean. There isn't a single character who focuses on sailing.

I don't care if they'd inherintly be weaker due to how limited the vanilla ocean is. The fact that it's not even an option both baffles and infuriates me simply because klei cracked a new character niche right open yet never tried to fill it in.

You should turn this into a poll too

I don’t know how :,(

Before wurt’s skill tree dropped I was championing her getting sailing related perks. Things like merms being able to row similar to monkey pirates. Or having faster move and interaction speed while wet so things like picking saplings, rowing, and steering sails would all be a bit faster.

I also thought for the longest time that a sailing character could be interesting especially if it was a crab person like Pearl.

then wolfgang refresh happened and he got proficiency at every sailing task while mighty. Does he also not have ocean reeling proficiency while mighty or am i mistaken?

i cant imagine a full fledged sailing character without the same task buffs wolf already has. Maybe its ok for them both to have all these same perks but idk.

Way I see it is this:

If you had to choose between two updates, one being a new character, and the other being a large chunk of content adding depth to the existing content in the world what would you choose?

I'd choose the latter. I don't mind new characters, but on the list of priorities literally anything else comes first.

*Sad merm noises...*

Actually I propose a experiment I'm not going to complain if Klei does decide to make a new character but could anyone even design a new character whose perks and skill tree skills don't overlap with existing survivors or limit future skills trees for existing survivors while still making sense in the context of the don't starve lore?

i took this personaly...so i took time and effort to make this as best as i could, i think this sould cover everything about about a new character...enjoy

Currently, DST has 18 adventurers, which I believe is already a sufficient number. With the addition of skill trees, each adventurer requires more time to learn how to use their skill points. This makes it difficult for players with less than 1000 hours of playtime to become familiar with all the characters.

However, looking at it from another perspective, for veteran players, certain dedicated servers with larger populations, such as 20 players, can create selection issues. New players typically choose adventurers that differ from those already in play, while characters like Wes, Warly, Webber (whose spider army can cause lag on dedicated servers), and Walter are rarely chosen. This can give the impression that the number of adventurers in DST is quite limited.

Therefore, I think it would be beneficial to introduce a few new adventurers, such as those with unique traits like Wanda, or characters from other DLCs (like the plant person Wormwood). The new characters should not overlap with existing ones and should ideally address shortcomings in multiplayer gameplay or excel in specific abilities. However, we should avoid introducing too many (5, 6, 7, or 8), as that could make the roster feel overly cluttered.

Yeah, why not

But just one - that would be enough
The only gameplay niche that haven't yet been covered by character kit is ocean or something moon related

I know ocean is a very scary word that send chills down the spine of DST community, woman fainting, men shivering in their trousers, old people having PTSD episode and running for cover - the absolute shockwave of fear and misery, the embodiment of evil itself

But having fisherman or explorer type character would be very beneficial to the game in long run because ocean gets gradually updated with new features.

It's doesn't have to be reworked character from singleplayer DLC's, I'd actually prefer new original character with that premise. Maybe an old sailor, captain if you will.

and, no, Wolfgang having whopping one sail relating skill doesn't make him an ocean character.

If skilltrees are the ''new chars'' to say so, i don't see myself hanging on this game for much more.. they are for most bad designed and don't scale well with the game, Warly made in while others characters no ? that displeased me imensely when i played dst for my first time as well. Nowdays i don't get as many fun as i desired of the game, maybe i just need a time off.. you know things are getting strange when Wilson is the guy you have most fun with, i still have to give Wurt a chance too, she's the only one who i haven't tried yet. Really hope see Wilba, Walani or Wheeler back some day, Wilba especially would be so cool to bring with some changes on pigs.

What do you mean by overlaping? Because they can use interesting designs like interacting with sanity or the nightmere phase for combat but can be argued that there are already combat characters

I think stuff can overlap if they share a function with a very different gameplay like: combat perk [wendy vs wigfrid vs wormwood]; gathering [woodie vs maxwell]; farming[wormwood vs wurt], etc.

The problem is when the perk isnt interesting or brings gameplay problems like wanda range weapon or maxwell cage... but i can have fun with wormwood or willow when both have combat focused perks

It's not about combat characters but about what characters do/specialize in and how their skill trees would further expand them.

For example general shadow magic makes sense to be Maxwell's thing, shadow based constructs would likely fall under Wanda's, so adding another shadow based character then giving all 3 of these characters skill trees would lead to some serious overlap or at least a case of well why couldn't x or y do that too?

Same would apply to a creature character, a magic character, and so on. We can add more characters sure but the expanded skill sets feel like they'd leave very little room for truely unique characters. Which makes me feel like if we're going to run into that problem why not just use those unique ideas for a new character and spread them into the existing characters who could fit those concepts.
