This year we get 4 updates instead of 6 like we got last year. In exchange, these updates were supposed to be more substantial and more packed. Two updates have been mainly qol, One of them a skilltree for 2 characters (which many people really dislike wurt's skilltree).

I really don't see how the updates this year have been more substantial than last year.

If this last update is another qol focused update I think many players will lose interest and it has been going that way for a while now. Almost all english speaking servers are deserted nowadays, if the steam player numbers are true, china and russia must make up like 95 percent of the playerbase.

Klei said the update for December would be skill trees stuff.

Anyway, I still think Klei should do updates every 6 months. Why, you may ask?

Because there are still major fixes that need to be done even after the update was released, and granted, the devs are humans too. Give them more time to tie in all those lore and gameplay stuff in a satisfying way without needing much fixes is waaaaayyyyy better than fast updates yet needing countless fixes afterward. Just look at the ocean content that lasted over 5 years and MAY still needs fixing and tuning, etc etc.

I feel like this poll needs a "mostly satisfied" and "mostly dissatisfied" option, because I'm in the "mostly satisfied" camp. I like the majority of what we've gotten, but there are some things I wish were done differently, and there's a handful of updates that were wholly disappointing (Year of the Dragonfly comes to mind).

Also, what are you basing the "almost all English speaking servers are deserted nowadays" on? Are you crazy? Klei servers are almost always half-full at the very least even during weekdays.

First, rule out the possibility that the cause is jet lag and population ratio.:juggling:

I personally thought you are a good side person, so please don't say like that. I'll delete this post as soon as this part is deleted.

"are you crazy?" doesn't necessarily tell someone they're crazy. It's just a call of shock.

For this year's update, my evaluation is that it is more like a free DLC, but in this DLC update, compared to previous years' updates, there is a lack of quality of life updates, and the skill tree is more like a part of adapting content rather than improving quality.
Although these updates have a lot of new content, compared to before the crack was added, the content is not smooth, and even many of the contents are not reasonable. The updates from a few years ago included too many quality of life updates and optimized game details, but these updates were mixed in with other content this year, and the weight may have relatively decreased.
This has led to cracks, and the added content appears relatively monotonous compared to previous years. Although I think the rough content is due to the heavy workload of new content, I still hope that future game content will be more exquisite in design,
Before the appearance of cracks in the game, materials often have multiple uses, but in the updates after the cracks, there is almost no connection between new and old materials. It is difficult to think that new materials seem not to be used as a superior substitute for old materials in the game, but rather as a superior substitute in function. Can't the materials obtained in the cracks be used to make items with objects in this world? The role of these new materials is so single. Currently, the quality and earliest design of the game in this regard are like adults with babies. Perhaps the content will be supplemented in the future, but I still hope that the new content will be enriched and the same as previous games in each update, instead of focusing on adding a bunch of single function items in each update

Yeah, that's how I meant it. I'm talking primarily about US servers, but most of the Klei ones usually have 6+ people in them. You only see less than that during weekdays at work/school hours or when Americans are sleeping, but even then, you get some people playing them.

at any rate, i would make a poll of this - but for all the updates including the forthcoming one, and so that'll be for the end of the year when all the updates have released.

As for the current updates that have been released though, I like that the the current update cycle. Being less regular, it tempers the playerbase's expectations, at least in my observation

Despite our assumptions I hope Klei treats their employees well enough no matter the update formula.

The longer periods of time till updates feel almost the same as we got before but in a slightly more refined state. It's not fast but at least satisfying to wait for while I can have a breather from Klei's dopamine driving schedules. I can have more breaks from DST and it's addiction.

Regardless of the content itself, I think the structure of the updates ix 100x better than it was in previous years. Intermissions have massively boosted short quality, and it's overall nicer having a gap time.

In terms of content, the skins & vignettes were really good this year, no notes. Staying afloat was a solid update that had a bunch of different stuff to the ocean with 2 cool skill trees. Depths of duplicity was a pretty good update too, with a great set of new enemies & items, but really needs to be the last of its kind in from beyond IMO. The updates don't feel like they're building to something right now. The rifts really need to start interacting, as the last year & 1/2 have felt like setup to "the good part" of From Beyond.

Scrappy scavengers was a let down though. Slight modifications to skill trees + megabasing is not something like 90% of the playerbase will get a mileage out of. The new rift things were fine and Scrappy werepig were fine, but really lacked anything that got me excited to play the game. I think they should've thrown in a new skill tree for Wanda or Wickerbottom at least.

I don't have huge expectations for the December update, but if it's something like Skill Trees for Walter & Wendy, with a refresh for some biomes i'll be pretty happy.

Next year I think they should go for 4 sets of 1 survivor skill trees over 2 sets of 2.

not this negativity making up facts dude, geez.

First - we have a skill tree this month to arrive.

Second - even if ur friend cicle did leave the game to make u do this type of assumption the people that are joining are way bigger in numbers so ye, those hungry petty players that payed a cheap amount of bucks for an amazing in progress game can find their cup of tea somewhere else, it will never be enough. OR just a break too, it might be healthy. We as gamers got plenty of good stuff to enjoy and be obsessed about cuz I know its the case with DST.

Understanding that Klei aint a big company that are NOT tryharding your money but a small one doing it from the heart would help u to be more considerate.

Definitely satisfied. We got good miscellaneous features, skill trees, bugfixes, interesting new equipment, and some long overdue additions to the roster of threats that aren't just bosses you have to go out of your way to fight. Some adjustments might be needed here and there, but that's a given. This poll should've been made in December, though.

Yes, but I wish they would focus on the World first. Everything they have been doing means nothing early/mid game. The World biomes and Seasons could use a really nice "refresh".

I think what Klei should do next year is focus hard on updating biomes and seasons (particularly summer; I feel like winter has enough going for it). This should include cave biomes and the ruins rework we've been needing for ages that makes it have less ugly branches and more DS-style landscape.

Yes, and I genuinely believe DST has had enough updates to be retired now.

Hmm a bit unfair towards the characters that are still waiting for their skilltrees.

(Plus I still want to finally know if the moon/shadow thing will end up in an apocalypse!)

(But then from a modder's perspective I'd kind of wish for less updates too, at least lest frequently)

skill trees will never make sense until they're made to reset every new world anyway. I won't lose sleep over it
