Wishful Thinking: Crossover with other Klei game.

Recommended Posts

Klei have so many game that they either create or publish that I think there should be more crossover.

Eet: New foods item, and lot of skin base on Eet characters.

Shank: New weapon from Shank, and lot of skins.

Mark of the Ninja: New weapon and armor, and lot of skins.

Invisible Inc: New mobs, and some new skin.

Oni: Lot of new food, item, structure, and mobs, and insane amount of skins.

Hot Lava: New trinkets, and ton of skins.

Griftland: Lot of new food, item, structure, and mobs, lot of skins.

Dread Pilot: New trinket, and some skins.

Rotwood: New weapon, mobs, food, and some skin.

NecroDancer: New weapons, and trinkets, some skin.

Beastieball: New trinkets and pets, some skin.

Mind over Magic: New weapon, trinkets, and mobs, lot of skin.

Lab Rat: New trinket, few skin.

I want a Rotwood crossover so badly, I also think it would be a nice way to market their new game because I'm pretty sure there are a significal amount of players that don't interact with the forum and might've never heard of rotwood.

Crossovers can be a bit tricky, and they might screw with the storylines of the respective games - but I wouldn't mind seeing more eyes on Invisible, Inc.

(Also the majority of characters in that game wear variations of formal wear, and I already have a lot of suits/vests in DST).

When Trinity Fusion came out to be a serious contender against it? :o

I personally still want a Crossover with Griftlands-

These should be Lunar Rift Varations of Moonblight Frogs. (The big one being similar to Varg)

Rotwood I honestly see as the most likely. Not necessarily to market their newest early access game but more so 'cus the monster and item designs in that game would fit DST's style the most. Even if it's just some item skins based on Rotwood stuff.

I would love to see a oxygen not included crossover into dst I know we have the alchemy pod as a skin but imagine the celestial portal as the printing pod as a skin for the portal kit when you fully construct it even if it's something small it would be neat or a duplicant as a npc

Sorry for the delayed reply. For me it really took away from the unique world it built up over the years. I understand references in quotes and that is one thing, but fully implementing an item or character, or in one instance, an entire DLC to a crossover really sours the original vision for the game. Granted the developers wanted to do it. It is their game, they can do what they want with it. It was just very off putting for me and eventually I stopped playing when the Castlevania DLC was announced because it was so vile to me.

The Terraria crossover for DST was extremely gross to me, it felt like the game I love was being tainted. The next crossover with CotL was less obtrusive but still, fishing in the Oasis and seeing the crown just invokes a feeling of sadness and disgust.

It is just me of course, people will think differently. Crossovers are popular I think which confuses me. I don't mind when things are purely cosmetic like the Dead Cells skins, but when it affects gameplay is when I am taken aback. The weapons didn't feel like proper weapons. The Eye of Terror is less weird compared to the Twins which really seems out of place for DST.

Maybe it just boils down to homogenization of media that I disdain in everything. I don't mind inspiration, but put a twist on it to make it your own. Crossovers don't do that generally.

This is why Hamlet is the perfect crossover game. Hamlet is Don't Starve.

for me, crossovers is more a thing that is meant to be left to the modders, but then I suppose it is done mainly for advertisment purpose to move a part of a userbase to also join the partner games. I often think crossovers are mostly out of place feeling too when they are made officially and not by modders. (since mods imo are always meant to have a bit of an out-of-place-feeling to them I think crossover mods are perfectly fine)

In-game-universe crossovers are an exception to my above post as the naturally don't feel out of place to me. It's more like putting the puzzle pieces together :3 (unless lore gets changed drastically then once again the out of place feeling applies a bit more but is still endurable)

I do enjoy idea of more crossovers, but maybe too many crossovers with their own games would look too cringe? We had small Oxygen Not Included crossover to DST via trinkets and couple of skins it feels like it's enough, while Klei has bigger publicity gain by collab with other people's games.

I'm sharing my opinion, just because I think it is interesting how different it is from yours.

I'm not a fan of crossovers in games because they typically feel pretty forced, but I think Klei did a pretty good job with the Terraria and COTL crossovers (better job with Terraria). I like how they translated the mechanics of the Terraria's bosses over and visually the items they introduced fit right in to the game. The COTL crossover had a much smaller scope and essentially boiled down to the introduction of some new mostly decorative items. If they brought over something to fight, I think it would have been better.

How do you feel about timed events? Those are kind of like crossovers with the real world. Do they bother you in the same way?

Excellent question! I actually really like the timed events, well two of them. The Midsummer Cawnival and the Winter's Feast (but I only like the splash screen and the music, don't actually like any of the gameplay. the cawnival is the only one I genuinely like the gameplay of.) If crossovers were togglable events I would probably enjoy it more. Which is why I don't fully mind the Terraria one because I can simply disable it.
