Otherwise I'd assume the devs would have thought it discouraging for players to discover a damaging dish trying to survive and not relied on the Crock Pot moving forward. Hence why instead of getting straight up damaging dishes, we get inefficient dishes from less efficient recipes like Ratatouille and Kebabs and Fistfull of Jam. Anyways for new screenshot: Yet another fine harvest, but this one is momentous for me because LOOK ATH THAT VARIETY. Also, for once i didn't catch a stray small crop at all! (totally didn't take at least 8 Glommer's Goop.) I didn't even know monster tartare was a thing, i rarely play warly and i guess its a relatively new addition to his arsenal since none of the guides i've seen mention it. still its also only -20 damage and I honestly don't see where having a food that does say -100 damage would be all that unbalanced, few creatures eat food items and the few that do would probably survive even that with the inflated health pools in DST so poison food would be even less OP than in solo.
