Crab king drop that is useful on land too (rain conch)

Recommended Posts

They revealed crab king will drop a special boat bumper, but i feel like he needs something extra that is useful on land too like the commonly suggested rain conch to make it rain and to make it stop raining.

Edit: It should be an item with durability that has survival use which will make the item desirable to re-obtain, like the rain conch example.

Maybe with a bonus effect of being able to summon thunder? basically wickerbottom's books combined. WX87s who don't have wickerslaves would love it.

Your thinking too small scale lol, now that Klei has confirmed Winona’s catapults are being turned into exclusively a Winona only thing, this means that she’s no longer a pick and switch character long enough to build her crafts then ditch her.

This also means.. players who heavily relied on Winona’s Catapults as other characters that weren’t Winona.. no longer have that option to them.

When it comes to the entire cast of DST I like to look at most of their abilities and perks as early/easier access to something you can later naturally obtain in the game yourself.

Examples would be Wortox Soul Hops, or even Walani having fast easy access to getting out on the ocean and exploring in the shipwrecked DLC from single player DS yet ANYONE could’ve built a boat.

Wanda having the Second chance clock to bring back dead players, but anyone can do that with telltale heart etc..

WX78 can go night vision mode, but Moggles exist.

Walter gets instant access to Woby which is basically just chester and a Beefalo, but chester and Beefalo still exist.

Willow having fast access to what is effectively a dwarf star.

Winona is no exception- she gets her own mini wobots but anyone can later obtain a Wobot.

So with that said…. And with catapults now being Winona exclusive, let us craft the crab king Canonball towers as the harder to obtain for everyone else version of Winona’s Catapults.

They confirmed on stream that the old functionality of the catapults (of targeting mobs without a Winona around) will still be retained. However, only she can use the remote and benefit from the superior fire rate/targeting.

Did they? Because I clearly remember them saying that when the structure is off-loaded from the screen that the little blinking light on it will put them into energy saving mode, and only a Winona player can flip this switch back on.

"They still do what they did before, plus this new stuff" is what they specifically said when showcasing the catapults. The power saving mode seems like a bonus that is given regardless to save power in the generator, and mobs/giants nearby should still force them back on.

Houndious shootious.

I can't really compare houndius to catapults, especially because they lack the AOE of the catapults, which is it's strongest asset. I consider them a more reliable damage dealer for high hitpoint mobs like giants where the considerable range increase is very noticable, while catapults can clear ways of swarms of mobs. Both have differing use cases, which you can't really substitute for the other.

They should buff the shootious anyway.

I'd had this idea of Crab King after death dropping Barnacle Infested Chunks into the water we can pick up with the Pinch'n Winch that could then be brought to land for Barnacle Farms similar to the ones in Shipwrecked.

Only problem is Barnacle Crockpot Recipes kinda suck right now.

Most of the players won't really care much for bumpers and CK really needs a good item drop.

If this item is added it should be craftable like rain rituals book so that you aren't forced to kill CK over and over again for it but the boss drops blueprint.

It's true, we got plenty of boat bumpers in general so I dunno what's the point of having another unless they will prep us for something else in the game that will need plenty of them, or advanced kinds.

Otherwise yea, need a little bit more interesting look from that boss, in general he could be like Ancient Guardian of the seas who'd bring us that non renewable loots like kelp, sea stack builder, wobster dens, sea weed starters, anenemies.

I dont how possible this idea would be, but what if crab king drop a item that alowed you to terraform by destroying land and making ocean and vise versa.

Sounds good, though i think he should have a desirable drop useful for survival too with durability.

Crab King could hold wobster roe, or at least be able to summon your own sea stacks.

Seastacks are great for possibility of building things around them or on them.

I kinda want them to rework the strident and let you make versions with different gem abilities.

The green one could summon sea stacks.

Plot twist: the new boss will be crab king, except he's the same as was before the rework.

WXs haven't used the lightning book since 2022. Way easier to just power on a Winona generator and use that.

The point of him dropping an item is so we have a reason to fight him again... we dont need antlion 2.0

He drops an item that is exclusive to him strident trident and that item can be improved but If a rain control item is added it better be a blueprint or otherwise why would I want a really bad version of something that Wicker and Maxwell have for free after crafting it once? This would still cost resources to craft after being used but the book is repaired with bookshelf.

The new season 12 of sea of thieves has a new way of propelling boats forward by blowing into a large seashell, it looks absolutely ridiculous and out of place in a pirate game I was trying to take serious, but it would probably had fit perfectly right into the wacky world of Dont Starve.

Would I actually WANT something like that in DST? Well it’s hard to say really.. Sails and Oars do a pretty fine job in boat propulsion as it is I think.

But if nothing else I suppose it would give an extra use to the “rain conch” or whatever the Op is talking about..

I don’t think a boss drop item with a durability on it would be a very good idea though, as the guy above said, Wickers self repairing book already has that covered.

Thats the point, to make him re-fightable. He already drops strident blueprint.

Its more fun and cool that way.

I've suggested this before for a CK drop:

A fountain that you can draw water from. With a gem slot that allows gems to be placed for different effects.

Spoiler

Blue gem: (used to be cooling effect but they added the deeclops eye thing) perpetual raining in an area for x amount of days.

Yellow gem: Faster moving speed in the area and passive sanity Regen for x days.

Red gem: small health Regen in an area for x days or until a certain hp restored amount is reached.

Green gem: equipment restoration in an area. Only up to 20% Regen per item for x amount of days.

Purple gem: deals x amount of damage to nightmare type monsters in the area for x amount of days.

Orange gem: Pulls items and mobs towards the fountain every x seconds for x days. Could be used to auto harvest grass, twigs, crops and maybe make some interesting mob farms idk.

Even if the fountain didn't have a gem slot, having a water source anywhere for crops + watering can would be different enough than rain imo. Would still make rain valuable but nice enough if you don't have a wicker.

Anyone can use the shell as any character + i am not gonna compare it to broken op items.

Do we really need to force players refight crab king? What’s the point in that, other than padding?

To have a wider variety of stuff to do in the long run. Why would klei add a rain item recipe if wasnt to have that tool in long worlds? Then make it an item dropped by him instead of a recipe so there are more things to do...
