Why upgrade chests?

Upgraded chests are the solution to a lag that occurs when you have 40 stacks of shift-dropped items. And to avoid biome-sized storages that only continue to get bigger as the game gets more items added into it.

The one thing I'll say is that tall chests look goofy and make no sense. Imo Klei should've added Rift-themed chest, which then would at least explain why they are able to contain so much stuff, having a pocket dimension inside them or something like that. Even if the upgraded chests require post-rift materials, it still looks goofy to just have a wooden chest with 999+ items inside.

Imo Klei should add new rift-chests and just make it so that regular chest skins apply to them as well, kinda like Wigfrid's skins applying to her skilltree items

You think smashing 45 pig houses and putting the boards from all of those into a single chest which is a small fraction of the size of a single pig house makes sense, and that chest being made out of 75% of the boards that the pig house is made from makes sense, but the chest being able to hold a 46th pig house of boards is where you draw the line?

Maybe a good suggestion would be to have scaled chests store 99 in each slot regardless of item natural stack size.

2-3x of the item's normal stack size would be great.

A 99 cap wouldn't violate the advantages of the tall chest upgrade

There isn't any advantage other than reducing the number of stacks that exist since past a certain point there's no way you're going to use up the ingredients on the existing recipes. With 99 or even 2-3x stack size spamming Scaled Chests seems much more appealing compared to an upgrade.

Not understanding it must mean you never experienced it. Entities cause a lot of performance issues, performance issues. There's a lot of troll power in that or even a massive pain to clean that noone wants. If people are too damn lazy to gather resources, imagine some dumb player trying to be haha funny and bonk a billion log stack chest -w- noone would wanna clean that and noone would want to do any gathering in general. I'm a gathered player and I try to be mindful of messes I leave to clean them well.

No I understand the lag from the entities, but having an infi-chest break is the same thing as breaking a crap ton of regular chests, or even just dumping items on the ground. Players can already troll with entity lag, and I don't think the new chest will help them any more.

After having seen all the “tall chest” art work, I hate each and every single one of them… they feel like a lazy design for what could’ve been a cool new item.

We got this very ugly stretched chests.. but really what should’ve happened was the Tall Chest was it’s own item (similar to the Wardrobe Closet) just this bigger.. cabinet thing with its own skins that held more stuff.

OR… They could have been Resource Pile skins (like a lumber yard stack that holds all your logs or a few haystacks that held all your grass)

I get the feeling this was added as a way of doing the least animation work possible, but it’s hideously ugly and ridiculous looking in my opinion.

I don’t care if it’s early game or super super late game- the design should’ve been well uhh something else..

it needs an enlightened shard, scraps metal and pure brilliances

its post rift and is late game

I don't think you'll see this often in your worlds and if the players who go beyond that point and start to invest in expanding their base are happy then I don't think its a problem

plus since chest skins apply to this one, it means that we don't have to weave new skins for the tall chest

It still feels wrong, it’s like… how do I put this- the first time you beat a RogueLite/Like’s final (or in this case mid-game) boss and your granted GodMode Immunity for all future Run attempts.

Yes I know that it isn’t that “extreme” but the entire point of a survival game is resource management, And.. as long as Klei continues to add content BEYOND the Enlightened Shard then the goal post for what is actually considered “End-Game Content” continues to keep moving further and further away.

Its like playing a game that has 3 levels and a final boss, then in a future update that adds 4 additional levels and a secondary boss the first one becomes less important.

But of course people aren’t going to complain about it, because it’s a “Late Game**” item intended to cater to the Megabase crowd (** subject to change at any given notice…) Craftable.

But I’ve come to realize people won’t understand my point of view because they discredit my opinion for not being able to reach the content in the first place.

But it’s like playing a limited ammo shooter, where killing the final boss unlocks unlimited ammo, what’s the point?

You get infinite storage day 1 by dropping stuff on ground, it's not really granting you some "god mode ability". An example of that would instead be Woodie's lunar affinity skill, you beat celestial champion once your entire downside is removed forever.

good point. now try it first before commenting on how u felt about stuff that u havent even touch before. its like saying u hate eating Rawon (one of my country speciality food) cus its look like all black soup, and didnt look appetizing. and u might trigger whole indonesian people and give this as reason .. "oh its because indonesia is so far and i cant try the real deal first doesnt mean u can discredit my opinion. i see it i know it wouldnt be good anyway"

?? but chest with bigger stack only stacking inside the chest. u cant carry 999+ stack of item in your inventory.
does having a chest with 121836182 sling shoot ammo make walter become super god mode ? that he can carry that chest around and pull the ammo directly from the chest ?

u talking like we upgraded all item max stack and wigfrid can carry whole stack of rocks and gold in her inventory for infinity battle helm.

That would depend.. can Walter place this bazillion Ammo chest on a mobile moving boat platform? If the answer is Yes- Then any and All future ocean content now has to balanced for a character carrying a bazillion slingshot Ammo.

But who am I kidding? Balance is the last thing Klei cares about anymore

smh he just salty cus its use enlightment shard for the chest, which he cant get unless he beat CC. (since it cant be obtained by simply toggle the setting)
so he will just assume it overpowered and made game easy for people that already work and farm for the items.

u cant discredit my opinion, just cus because i know u only by those things u post so far. my assumption is legit.

But he already can. Boat can carry unlimited items just like the ground.:wilson_curious:

Sounds like a PC solution Tbh, cause I may not know everything about the “end-game” but I know more than enough about ocean content, and getting any small items loosely on the deck of said boats can block the interaction of other more important things you need to be doing, such as.. rowing a boat oar away from a salt formation.

Dropping anything loosely on a boat deck makes the entire experience significantly much less enjoyable. Trust me I had that problem trying to fight CrabKing lol’z.

I’d actually HATE to be on a boat where Walter has all his ammo just laying around on deck.. sounds like a nightmare.

Klei could make petals give 1 hunger each and half the people on this forum would start screaming about how it “trivializes hunger” or something. Not everything is overpowered.

once you beat CC, you'll be given a chance to unlock lunar rifts and you get the enlightened crown, an item that gives you infinite light

since this game is centered around not starving and always being in the light, omg enlightened crown op because infinite light

plus, are you ready to farm CC and Scrappy Werepig to get material to make the new chests?

also, how do you equate making a chest with unli storage to God mode? was the whole point or challenge about the game just storage management?

by the time you defeated CC you've already proven yourself to be very much capable to survive and thrive in the game. storage management is barely a hindrance at that point, this item just helps organization and lag reduction. it doesn't give you infinite hunger, health, sanity, light, season immunity or what. We have other items for that, lmao

You'd go utterly insane if you realized that the ground exists and boats can carry an infinite amount of items... on the ground... with no risk of moleworms which were already biome specific on land anyway.

sadly they'll just brush that off because "console gamer problems". so if it doesn't apply to them then it shouldn't be considered for everyone

Boats are endgame, confirmed by the unofficial dev @Mike23Ua

Shouldn't they make their suggestions on the console forums really? A lot of their issues are apparently console related, maybe they could post there? :p

the best thing to do to address console related problems? impossible :D

I'm baffled of how is this an issue, honestly. I thought everyone wanted a chest that could stack infinite amounts of resources, almost like Terraria. People rather have a base full of items dropped on the ground thinking it doesn't affect the server lag than a chest neatly contained with a big stack because they FEAR someone hammering it, they fear something that didn't even happened yet. Oh my god. And the chest is expensive and really late game so most public servers won't even be able to craft it. Why are people like this.

IS it late game though?? I mean just because it’s tied to CC doesn’t make it late game.. if CC was the final game boss, Err maybe? But now we have “Planar” and 3 Brand New Bosses built specifically for Planar.

I highly highly doubt that Klei’s ONLY plans for Lunar/Shadow rifts, are a handful of deadly Brightshades.

Like I said: As long as the “late-game” goal post keeps getting moved further and further away with new content, what even is the “late-game” anymore?

Sadly you're absolutely right.  Bone armor and Celestial Crown were late game, now they are "beginning of..." items.  How do you improve from an armor that lets you completely ignore 1 hit on item based cd so you can rotate 2-3 of them instead of kiting?  Add to that, repairable with nm fuel of all things.  I have piggy packs FULL of nm fuel just waiting for an infinity chest to start putting it all in, while using bone armor and magi non-stop.

Its why NG+ stuff often kills the game.

We don't know exactly what Klei is up to here.  I HOPE the idea isn't to build up to another tier, and another tier... as is so often when ppl decide bigger numbers are "difficulty," but planar is certainly a start in that direction...

Late game comes before end game. If it drops from literally the final boss that isn't late game.
