What's the possibility of DS getting another dlc?

Recommended Posts

Given their statements, I would say extremely unlikely at the moment.

Considering that ROG was supposed to be the end for DS and SW/HAM were added due to bonus ideas after it ended the team wanted to experiment with, I will say it is surprising how well they were able to do those DLCs in the first place.

I would really only expect them to consider the idea after the content arc is complete, and if they do, they likely need to work on DS itself quite a bit, which would be extremely challenging (old code, locked into 32 bit, etc.).

It could happen, you never know, but I wouldn’t be too focused on it.

I mean, they could definitely, but Don't Starve is such an old masterpiece game, if Klei will make an expansion with a company. I don't picture it on Don't Starve tbh.

Maybe in the far future of video game industry, we will see a DST but with Shipwrecked and Hamlet getting updates back with Capy (the guys who made shipwrecked with Klei). But really I don't picture it on Don't Starve, this game right now just needs bug fixes and few quality of life updates, it's hard to imagine this.

I feel like this game... that made a part of my childhood... should take a rest. I'm-I'm not saying it in a bad way, you know what I mean ? 10 years man, 10 years... I just want to wait, and see what games and updates of the Don't Starve franchise will come.

As I just said in the other thread- Adding DLC to Dont Starve would be complicated to pull off, Because Klei can not add any content that DST has continued from it.

See at the end of Dont Starve you (Wilson) trade places with Maxwell and become captive to the Nightmare throne.

(Im also not putting this into a spoiler tag because you can find this information in DSTs Compendium pages anyway..)

The starting screen Animation of Dont Starve Together showcases an already captured Wilson being wandered up on and free’d by Charlie, before being thrown back into the Constant all over again.

Only THIS TIME he’s not thrown back into the same universe by himself, He’s thrown into the same universe as the one he traded places with Maxwell in DS’s conclusion.

The Cyclum puzzle (sort of an online comic book) Showcases Maxwell & Wilson coming to terms with their past and agreeing to work Together to construct the Jerry Rigged Portal- Which pulls all the other survivors from their own individual universes into the Same Universe TOGETHER.

Klei can add a DLC that takes place in between DS & DST, or they can add a non-canon DLC to Dont Starve..

But Realistically I think they’d rather focus on DST then to continue working on DS.

I personally would prefer paid DLCs to DST that I can invite my friends or strangers to play in rather than more single player only DLCs but to each their own.

...provided the stars align some day. It's a lot harder than one might think.

Not everything you do  is canon in said dlcs. Infact i dont even think wilson went to hamlet (ignore the trailer). I think Hamlets main character was supposed to be wagstaff and his lore/quotes. So the dlc can be an entirely different continent if they choose.

They can make the lore of the dlc Wilbur accidently falling into a wormhole for all i care.

That’s not the point I was trying to make.. DS was created 10+ years ago, & over the years the story, lore & Gameplay for the game franchise has changed & evolved (for better or worse)

Ideas that worked well in DS might not work so well in DST & Vice Versa.

And over the years not only has the games characters, and gameplay changed- but also the way that content or DLC is delivered.

For example: in 2013 technology wasn’t advanced enough to allow people who did not own a DLC pack to play with people who DID Own the DLC Pack.

However- Games like Minecraft, or more Recently Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Shredders Revenge have proven the technology completely possible.

So NOW instead of single player dlcs like Shipwrecked and Hamlet, it’s actually better to expect to be able to play Shipwrecked & Hamlet with your friends, rather They purchased the dlc or not…

Same as how players can use & interact with DLC Character belongings & items without needing to also own those DLCs for DST. I can join your world & clean sweep your structures into skins that I Own but you don’t have to own etc…

This is NOT a guarantee that Klei will add Shipwrecked or Hamlet expansions into DST… however-

If they WERE to do a new DLC I would expect it to be for DST instead of DS.

Simply because of advancements in gameplay ideas or the technology used in how content is purchased & delivered.

Tbh im alright with moving from DS. But i just want a solo mode in DST. I really don't understand how they still haven't done it.

Absolutely! But I can also see where it would take a considerable amount of time to rescale every feature of the game that was designed with multiple players in mind, to be more suited for a solo experience.

As just a few examples- Telecaster Staff, Mob Health & Damage, Amount of food or resources in the environment, the amount of “swarm” hordes that are allowed to attack the player (such as Spider Queens with endless spawning spiders & healing nurse spiders) I can imagine it would take a good bit of development time & resources- But… if it ever WAS to be done.

I’d personally love if this “single player mode” was a RogueLite-Like Campaign Mode similar to the Adventures portal of Solo DS.

I think mob health is fine in dst. It's only some bosses and their certain mechanics that need to be scaled like : Fuel woven shadow number + bee queen grumble bee spam needs an interval. And none of the bosses healths should be over 20000. Endurance fights ARE NOT FUN.

DST not canon.

Because DS is for solo.
DST for multiplayer.

Klei doesn't care about solo players.
They advertise the game as multiplayer, they describe it as multiplayer, they update it based on multiplayer and they will continue to do this, because this game is from 2015 year.

They even twist the plot around multiplayer.

All DLC's are prequel Adventure mode

To do this, they can make a separate game or DLS and sell it

What do we see in DS, RoG, Shipwrecked and Hamlet?
Bosses have 1250-3500 health.

All bosses in DST are already endurance fights.

To be realistic. Then the only bosses who could approach 10k hp in DS are the Lunar Champion.
It should have approximately 2000 in phase 1, 2500 in phase 2 and 3000 in phase 3. ( Although I think Klei would have made a lower hp )

This isn't bethesda.

The situation with DS and DST is reminiscent of Bethesda ...
and the idea with a new large version of DS is really cool.
