I was in love when Forge was first time released. Different playstyle in Don't Starve was something refreshing. Quick matches, autojoining to random lobbies or playing with friends. Gorge also was something new but also old in same way? Awesome cooking mechanic, a lot of dishes, new NPC-mobs, good know farming mechanic which we got in normal game.

People really liked both of events and wished for they come back. Klei said that they had to spent too much time on creating event than normal content and also hosting servers was kinda expensive. Is there any chance to get this event once more but with other rules? No one said no but not for now. What if this events get skins bundles and something like battle pass? Of course free pass and pay-able premium with boosting leveling and few skins unable to get without this pass.

As I hates battle passes cause mostly they are hard sucks with content that in Don't Starve I would be it to support game and high quality events like Gorge and Forge. I know there are mods with full content of Gorge or Forge, but mods are just mods.

What's your idea? Should they come back? What do you think would be good solution for make able to get Forge and Gorge?

I think that events such as these should still come and go but definitely not as often as they used to from 2017 to 2018, no one knows if they'd be profitable now (probably, there's a lot more players) but I do think that they really should come back every few years or so.

There's just something special about a community being invested in them for a few weeks while they are going on, meeting friends on them is also really easy and it doesn't feel as much of a 'chore' because a Forge or Gorge match takes way less time to beat than an average length playthrough or even session of DST.

As much as I loved the first iteration of The Forge, if it came now the novelty would be gone. There would be no surprises since people already know how to tackle the arena. In order to feel fun and fresh the event would need to be revamped, and that would probably take considerable effort. Last time the format was good and could be reused. That is, individual rewards and challenges as well as the community progression that unlocked additional items (although that made the whole thing a bit too easy after a while).

The Forge could hopefully come back as a raid style dungeon in the normal game. I think that could work out pretty well.

The biggest (actually, the only) gripe I had was the competition in The Gorge. In the end it basically came down to using scripts and macros to secure a place on the top list and as such it felt stupid that said players would get a unique portrait frame as a reward.

*came back

if possible i just want them added into world generation when making the world as custom games.
placing them in world regeneration so newer people can notice them would be so great.
that way newer player and also console player can participate. many new people dont know that those gems even exist. unless u see some streamer randomly playing those events with mods.
for me, playing with newer player is making forge and gorge enjoyable again even with no new content.

i wouldnt even mind if they add its as a paid DLC :-?

I won't vote because the second question to me is a little redundant. No doubt if it did come back, it would be an evolving game mode. It's an arbitrary question.

Every cooperative spin off of game evolves with each patch, otherwise the meta would stagnate.

I think this is the most sensible way of adding it in without the need for klei to host servers. A bit of a hands off thing.

Unfortunately, I think rotwood killed any future forge may have.

I've heard a lot of sentiments that state "Rotwood is better than forge ever was"

Literally the spiritual successor. I've even had to sit through the smug and snarky goblins who tell me "Just play Rotwood if you love forge so much"

It's just a waste of assets imo.

Having said that, I think that we should still have options to add it into the world gen like pretty nuggets has stated.

Despite rotwood being "better" than Forge, it'll never replace what familiarity with the characters DST has already established. We have extremely beloved characters and in the face of rotwood, you have a litany of "Literally who?"

I think the burden of running the games shouldn't lie on the shoulders of klei, but instead us.

Mods are one of the single biggest barriers of entry and it will never make me not look down on people saying "There's a mod for that"

Extremely dismissive. Having forge and gorge as game modes without mods is something I simply don't see a downside to.

Having to maintain and bugfix extra gamemodes as changes to the base game, like the current character updates, are made that might break it. Not to mention, being hounded just as much for then not adding new content to said gamemodes. Or if they do, taking dev time away from the base game; we already saw the fallout from that one.

Not saying it absolutely shouldn't ever happen, but these things always come with costs.

Yeah i like both ideas but i'd rather see the skill trees or the from beyond arc to end first.

If The Forge / The Gorge were to make a comeback there are quite a few more playable characters now. Fleshing out the roster and coming up with additional abilities would be a substantial undertaking on its own. :v

They already have new abilities in the reforged and re-gorge-itated mods, the devs could ask the mod authors to port those if they won't come up with better ideas. Although iirc the devs said that hosting the event servers was unsustainable and the mods for forge and gorge are freely available, so i doubt they'll do anything with those anytime soon.

I'd only want them to come back in a self-hosted format. If players can host their own Forge/Gorge games, then sure.

I don't want them to come back and take away dev time if they're to be actively added to. I quite like our current update chain, it'd be a shame to have time taken away from it with what already feels like a divided process.

With both of event's trailer we can see that characters turned on Fuelwaver's portal - same one or similar - and they jumped into other world where someone else than Charlie has crown. I really loved this idea, so really rich to build semi-lore about other timeline worlds with other history and other characters. Nice way to make spinoffs with good background.

And there I have three questions:

  1. What was first idea about portal? It should be between worlds portal or dark magic accelerator?
  2. What was idea about antagonist from other worlds? They were something like 7 deadly sins or they are some sort of Gods?
  3. What is about other worlds? They are other planets or other timeline of Constant?

Of course I don't see more than 1 special event per year and ofc for now we will get main game's content while this is more important. But I don't think once per year turning on special event - Forge, Gorge or new one, for few weeks, sounds too bad. Also Forge and Gorge weren't so really bad did, small polish would be enough good to fix it.
