is there any way at all to do the moonstone event without abusing pathfinding/panflutes?

Recommended Posts

i tried using a billion merms today as a joke to see if i could do moonstone purely with just with that, and it surprisingly (or unsurprisingly) failed within the first minute. my friend even joined in after i restarted the event and kept spamming wormwood's moonshroom ability, and even that barely helped at all

which got me thinking: has anyone ever actually done the moonstone event without pathfing/panflute abuse?

if there is no way, i do think the moonstone should be reworked to be actually possible without exploits

i build stone walls around the moonstone, and then just kill the attackers with the hambat, and as long as i'm quick to kill the attackers, it almost always works. sometimes i'll need to repair some walls, but i dont feel like pathfinding exploit or use of panflute is necessary

You can build a wall, plant a circle of trees around it, and light them when doing moonstone event, werepigs and hounds will be so panicked by the fire damage that they will not attack the wall until the flames burn out. And the time the trees burned plus the time the flame spread was enough to cover the entire moonstone event.

A single layer of Stone Wall in a small enough square to cover the center plus Tooth Traps and a Beefalo for fighting gets the job done. Striking an enemy once will make them aggro you instead of the transformation, which you can use to your advantage. Taking aggro from more than one enemy before finishing them off is helpful when playing alone. It involves s a bit of a balancing act not to get overwhelmed. That is about it.

There's a way you can do it without path finding exploits and pan flute spam, but that's a bug so I guess that doesn't help...

You could try wall up the entire area to slow the hounds and werepigs down?

I usually just use stone walls. a few layers will be enough to endure the waves of mobs, if you kill some

Utilizing Overcoming Arachnophobia with followers, as wicker seems to work fine. I reckon using Overcoming Arachnophobia with tentacle setups will yield better results, or you could simply put a wooden wall around the moonstone and fire it when the moon event starts, it should produce the same results.

holy manure how many books did you use?!

If you put a staff in the moonstone and unload it then come back during/after full moon walls nearby will be damaged, this makes me think they intended for players to do some kind of cheese, because they cheese everything anyways

Or alternatively: they just wanted you to be at the event.

The event is only multiplayer balanced just like all of the other poorly designed mechanics in this game

On one hand I get it's frustrating playing alone but on the other hand it is a multiplayer focused game...

something that seems to elude alot of people is you can repair the altar mid-event if it takes damage.

you can use a ranged weapon to quickly hit all beasts once to draw aggro, they will never reaggro on the altar.

I'm really confused by this post. It's as simple as surrounding the moonstone with stone walls and killing the mobs that spawn as fast as possible. It's very doable alone with this simple method.

I know tons of multiplayer-focused games that you can enjoy without having to struggle as a sole player. Deep Rock Galactic gives you Bosco that can do a lot of annoying tasks for you. Left 4 Dead always has three other survivors following you, be it other players or computers. Plants vs. Zombies Garden Warfare 2's Ops modes allow you to spawn teammates that act both as computer players and as additional lives in case you yourself go down during a wave. I can go on further if you'd like.

And although all three examples follow the theme of a shooter giving you a computer-controlled companion and DST most likely isn't going to have that, I can see Klei adding adjustments for solo players for events like these to make them more bearable when playing alone.

I've probably been on the wrong side of the tracks on this then since I've played many multiplayer games where multiplayer games tried to cater to people playing solo and then it ended up ruining the multiplayer experience it's possible they can avoid that but that's just my experience.
