Remove toadstool armor

Recommended Posts

Toadstool getting armor from mushroom trees is a bad mechanic. This boss is lame as heck, he barely even attacks without his damage and speed buffs. But if I'll let him keep his shroom he gets crazy defence boost even tho he is already a damage sponge.

And the trees are so frustrating to chop it's ridiculous. You chop them down he spawns new ones over and over and over and over. I don't wanna do that stuff it's never fun. I don't wanna lure him to ponds I don't wanna wait for trees to burn and then hit this thing while it crawls to it's hole.

Toadstool dosen't need rework if you guys are bizy or whatever. Litteraly allow players to fight enraged toadstool with 1 line of code removed and it's done toadstool is now fun.

Indeed one of the worst fights in DST for single players. I usually choose to overwhelm it with Wolfgang and voltgoat jelly. Fighting against it with characters who don't have a damage boost without cheese is nearly impossible unless you use a lot of Weather Pain. The Weather Pain strategy has the same logic as Wolf&jelly as they both convert the difficulties for fighting skills to resource obtaining problems.

I like the original design better, the trees buff its attacks but also makes it take more damage. Maybe if they tune down the attack buff from trees a bit, they could add this back.

Also add proper indication to the tree buffing/nerfing its defense, currently there's no way you can tell it has 99% protection without mods.

Remove toadstool's armor? You do that by breaking the trees! :steamhappy: :steamhilarious: :steamveryfunny:

Anyways Toadstool is one of the best fights in the game. Needing to balance the tree destruction with attacking him is great, and encourages you to think about what you're bringing beforehand. Without needing to destroy the trees, what is left of the fight? That's literally the mechanic, if you remove that the fight is just holding F and every once in awhile walking away from the most easily dodged attack in the universe. If spores can't be covering trees, they don't matter at all. If you aren't being distracted by trees and spores, the stomp attack doesn't matter at all. The entire fight is removed by removing the tree mechanic, it'd be like suggesting that Deerclops loses his icicle attack so he just stands there looking at you.

Personally I’d just like Planar dmg do something about mob armor… as you could just wait till you get them to do toadstool, it's not required in the rifts progression, and neglect this aspect of the boss to fit some progression / individual need. But the armor by default is what makes toadstool survive some pretty redundant fight strats and by doing so spicing it up.

Toadstool is one of the worst fights and your opinion is wrong. When he is buffed by shrooms he spams bombs a lot making landing hits on him to be risky, tricky and fun.

What do trees add to the fight? Instead of fighting toadstool at his strongest you run around chopping or burning trees, then lure him into a pond and smack him while he isn't even fighting back, then he summons trees and you just do the same thing again wow 10/10 boss so cool.

If you hate mechanics and just like holding F you are free to do that, the armor never makes him invulnerable. The "super fun" fight you want is already in the game, and the best part is you get to enjoy the extremely fun and interactive mechanics of holding F for a very long time since he'll take 5x more damage to beat! Woohoo! What a blast!

They should let toadstool destroy any mushtrees he walks over. He is super slow so it is not really op, it would just make it more interesting and strategic.

Pressing S once every 40 seconds to dodge the slowest, least used, and most telegraphed attack in the game is just holding F, yes. You don't "kite" Toadstool. If it's really as fun and challenging as you're pretending it is you should be hyped to do it 5x longer through the mushtree armor. That's 5x more fun!

I have noticed that there are 2 types of players regarding toadstool:

They love him including misery, I have seen people rate him as S tier (even solo players how)

They hate him so bad its 1 of the worst bosses in the game.

there is no in-between.

Personally, he is just... boring. doing something over and over for 20 minutes in not fun, even with pains its a chore, not mentioning the reward toadstool gives. giving toadstool a rework like ancient Gurdian did would help this boss a LOT. toadstool armor can still be a thing but just in a less annoying way without bring 12 weather pains and 12 dark swords for a mush hat and a decorational lamp.

pls give toadstool loot that's not decoration (I guess the napsack counts, but let's introduce the pan flute, and at that stage you would get plenty of mandrakes from klaus or deconstructing 10% pan flutes)

Spoiler

yes, the lamps are decoration prove me wrong. I just wear the funcaps for aesthetic for snapshots with builds

I said it as a joke because saying "I disagree" seemed boring. Obviously different opinions are valid it's common sence.

you never fought enraged toadstool is why you argue with me.

Napsack has such a bad crafting recipie it seems like it exists only to be duped by green staff for some skin and rare feathers

Tip for toadstool: use an ornery beefalo. As long as you remember to dismount every around every 13 minutes you won't need to spend a single resource on weaponry, and weather pains are still usable while riding. I tried it once in a world where I had already killed Toad and it was the most enjoyable (not exactly fun) Toadstool kill I've ever had. The inventory management is so simple, and when that's the main challenge of the fight aside from the resource cost the fight is basically a free kill.
