Predictions for the next beta?

Recommended Posts

Better be a rift update and it probably will have a very short beta so we can have a character update right after because 4 years of reworks wasn't enough.

And we could have just had an 85 damage brightshade sword and the reaper with scaling mechanic without the need of convoluted atrocious formulas to calculate your damage just so you can fill up a few skill trees with more planar damage, it's getting ridiculous.

A new mechanic that everyone and their mother hates. To which Klei guts the feature into a shell of it's former self instead of properly addressing the issues with it.

How come you keep editing replies to say snip?

I predict that the next update removes wurt

Dst players seeing basic progression and power scaling for the first time and calling it power creep is funny

After 10 years of what Klei did to the design of Don't Starve? Yes. You would be blind to not see it.

Normally I'd agree with you. Infact, this is an argument I've said in favor of buffing brightshade gear myself.

But sense Klei confirmed outright that Post-Rift content is an anti-powercreep measure, not this time.

Ignoring all the... other problems with the concept for a moment, Klei making rift content to address power creep is quite literally the textbook definition of power creep. Klei felt that recent content updates where too strong for one reason or another. So now they're adding more purposefully stronger content to keep that old strong content in check. That is quite literally what power is. Give it another 5-10 years, and then Klei will be releasing Rifts 2: Electric Bogaloo because they felt that the content added in and after the from beyond arc also got too strong.

And they even said "we're not doing powercreep, we're making easier all the game before the rifts and harder after" which is the very definition of powercreep. What a sweet lie from Klei xD

Adressing powercreep by doing powercreep, lol.

So my replies don't take up half the screen space for readers.

Not sure why people still think the "Core Game Enhancement" updates aren't the skill trees considering there is no other category the skill tree update could've possibly fit into at this point

Because I have hope that this game will finally change for once in 10 years and we won't have the same bad predictable worldgen as 2014, old and newer content getting rebalanced and changed so it's not so convoluted to figure out etc, skill trees don't help new players at all solve all of that BS and just give them free power ups because 'Why not?', so uninspired for a 'Core Game Enhancement Update'.

-snip-

I definitely see where you're coming from, but I'm more referring to how someone said we haven't even received the first of the Core Game Enhancement updates and how I've seen some confusion before on what category the skill tree update fits in. I'd definitely prefer something else under 'Core Game Enhancement' but it's pretty clear now what it meant in this particular roadmap.

It makes sense but man if this makes things even more sad and depressing. 2023 is a year to forgot and delete for Don't Starve.

Isn't everything powercreep in the end?

On what circumstances you're asking? Base game? Rifts?

Quote someone and then delete everything of his message with a "snip". It took me a lot to figure it out long time ago, lol

man i forgor the roadmap :skull:

Something makes me think at some point they're going to do rifts and skill trees at the same time *cough* Max *cough*.

But the QoL sounds nice and something that would take quite a long time to do, maybe even rift additions

Wortox, Webber and Wurt. Monsters update is my dream.

I'd rather see the Wurt, Webber and Wendy skill trees in one update.I really want to see their interaction in animation!

yea, but I can see Pigs chasing them, and Wortox coming up with a new disguise for both of them, because he is a clever boy.

I won't mind all this) . but if you ask, Vortex is not really a child, so I think that Wendy more suitable for this trio ^^

I can understand people not liking the concept of skill trees. But the skill trees UNQUESTIONABLY make woodie and wormwood so much more fun to play as. So I completely support them as they do expand playstyle variety and just make the game fun.

Skill trees are not convulted in this game, they're very basic where you can unlock much of it  when you're maxed on points. Not to mention you're not meant to have a full skill tree as a new player unless your exploiting it.

You can argue about the Wolfgang skill tree all you want, it's obviously not like the other two. But it does add some things that changes his playstyle (dumbells, whistle) something that encourages some different weapon use (the planar damage thing) and then just some uninspiring filler.

If skill trees can do for some of the other undesirable characters what it did for woodie and wormwood, then they're unquestionably a great thing for the game.

I don't think skill trees will supercede other content from happening either

They already did.

Im fine with skill trees updates as long as they replace QoL updates, not rifts ones.

Man, Im so tired of, how long its been? 4 years of character updates? I really hoped we will finally get updates that are world themed for once.

Considering the last update which adds a sanity bonfire (The lamb idol), and the theory that these skill trees update will come with characters doing something in common (last one was them getting wood), my theory is that we will get the skill trees update for Walter, Willow, and Warly.  I can see these 3 getting paired with the whole "setting up a camp" thing, the 3 share the faster cooking trait, etc

I also feel like these characters are the ones that require an update the most. Walter is harder to play than a ******* Wes and got left behind even more by the "300 hitting aoe Wolfgang's dumbbells" and the Brightshade staff; Willow has been one of the least played characters because of her bad reputation and her bear is useless against new mobs; And Warly went like 2 "tiers down" because planar damage and defense affect his garlic and pepper spices, probably even his Volt Goat.

There's no way you can tell me that the amount of time, effort, and resources that went into Woody/Wormwood/Wolfgang is comparable to what went into Terrors Below or something.

Regardless I don't think the argument "skill tree bad" is fair because people want more content. I think people making the argument that they'd rather have more new content than skill tree balance is reasonable but worded different.

I guess at the end of the day the question becomes just how much effort/manpower does it take. To institute skill trees, and I'd wager to guess it's far less than a full new content patch. So I don't think the two should be mutually exclusive

As far as I know, he doesn't really like messing around with "babies" much:D

From what's mentioned in quotes he sort of takes on the older brother role of the group making sure the other kids(and Willow) stay out of trouble
