If Klei want to use my Wurt swimming mod for Wurt's skill tree, they have full permission.

This is an exciting beta to be sure, I'm really excited to see what direction Klei takes all the other survivors.

I figured I would quickly say that if Klei want to take any of the ideas in this mod I made to let Wurt swim as part of her skill tree (https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2575690991), I'd have no issues with it.

The code is in large part adapted from someone else's character mod that adds an item that performs a similar function, so I'm not 100% sure I have the ability to give full permission in regards to the swimming code. But assuming it falls under fair use, ya'll have my full permission to use as much of it as you want. You guys obviously have professional animators but if my animations would be of any help I could provide those too. But I doubt it since they were my literal first attempt at animation.

I figured i'd get this out early to maximise the chance of them considering it.

Speaking of Wurt one of her skills should be trading with pig king, it's not a valid downside since you can literally just swap to any other character (including literal monsters) and trade with pig king just fine, before swapping back.

New skill: "Swine Slaughterer", Wurt will gain sanity from killing pigs, +20 for each kill. :twisted: Can be upgraded to a second tier which will also make Pigs panic when a Wurt is nearby, an effect similar to Maxwell's shadow sneak. Minus the slowdown.

Why the merm king fills all the pig king's functions for her already.

On a side note I have a sneaking suspicion those spearman merms we saw so long ago might be making their debut.

A lot of downsides of characters can be negated by swapping characters, so it really isn't a reason for why she should have that, and as Mysterious box said the Merm King already has the role of obtaining Gold from.

Being wet is a very significant downside already, even Wurt using this mod will freeze, lucky that she can ignore most of the downsides of being wet but others can't so...

Wet, sanity drain, slow movement, food spoilage, healthy drain due to freezing, potentially a body slot as requirement to enable swimming in the first place, swimming in water is almost like swimming in lava pool. I think it’s justifiable to introduce swimming to the game.

I disagree. That makes her special. And this well shows the mutual dissimilarity of pigs and mermaids. You shouldn't take that away from her

I don't know if making Wurt to be able to properly swim would be good. I think merms in general should be the only ones able to swim(not tied to tree), since Wurt is a child who is not good at it (Justification). 

 

Maybe merms can save other players from drowning while king is active, or if there are befriended merms, just like ballphins in shipwrecked.

Well that does rule out your first three seasons + force you to go summer fishing, so it's still a downside in my experience using it.

While I don't disagree, skill trees seemed to me like the most likely way this was going to realistically happen at all.

Personally I prefer the latter even if they're not very useful something more along the lines of Wormwood's new lunar shroom interaction would be cool.

I thats what I thought but  they also eat meat and the X-ray of a bonnethead shark head looks more like her maybe the horns are because she’s a merm guard do you know of any herbivore sharks that look like her with out the horns

ngl, I know it's unlikely, but I'm holding out hope for at least 1 new merm type (fishermerms' grand return?). But besides that, I'm not sure what would the tree even consist of. 

Like, besides making king's trades more interesting or giving Wurt more control over merms (which is kinda Webber's thing rn, so idk), I don't even know what else could possibly be improved about her that hasn't been already been done in WX-78 refresh: her merms are already great at chopping/mining, as well as absolutely destroying most bosses, her kit includes a ton of QoL perks like frog neutrality and wetness immunity and she's fun to play (at least to me and people I know of, haven't really seen people complain about her being straight up unfun to play, but if someone here has complaints on that, please do tell about it, would be interesting to read). 

If I'm being honest, as much as I love Wurt, she probably needs a skill tree the least of the entire cast(along with Maxwell I guess?), due to receiving such good tweaks and buffs in WX-78's refresh.

Honestly I used to be against it because I thought it would be op but I mean ocean trawlers are just fishermen merms for the sea so I could see it being added if there was enough demand.

I kinda feel like this needs to happen it feels bad that the only reason Wurt doesn't have proper control over her merms is that Webber exists. I want Kiel to expend on both without holding the other back because in the same way that means spiders can't become stronger damage wise to avoid stepping on Wurt's toes.

I agree on both characters it feels like some of Wurt's tweaks and Maxwell's new book perks(cage and sneak) should have been skills he unlocks via skills but they thought of the skill trees too late.

While she doesn't nessecarily need one in terms of her kit being polished, I think there's lots of cool opportunities for additonial content that the tweaks would not have covered, like the fishermerms you mention or the swimming. And I mean a bit more merm king stomach capacity wouldn't exactly be a bad thing to have. To me skill trees would be best used as ways to add interesting and unique content and don't have to be limited to buffs for underpowered characters.
