Alternative to skill tree

Guys, I believe I don't have to say this, but klei adding a choice for all characters between shadows and moon, doesn't mean that all characters will receive ability avors. I'm actually going to give my kick here of what's to come.

 

I thought about it and I think that after defeating the bosses, Celestial Champion or Ancient Fuel Weaver, we will unlock the recipe for the alters of the ancient gods of moon and nightmares. The altars will serve to commit ourselves to a god, since we have destroyed his emissary. After being associated, we will unlock one of the two unique abilities of the characters:

Moon Route: Nap time!
Your bear is now fueled with energy from the moon and causes nearby enemies to drowse.

You can replant lunar plants from sales, which will serve as protection for Wormwood.

Nightmare Route: Hunger for Nightmares.
Can feed on nightmare fuel having the same effect as their souls, can use pure horor to teleport, but not for area heals.

Moon Route: Shared Grace.
Increased area healing effect, being able to use their souls to teleport creatures with them.

All routes are subject to change, so have fun imagining better ways to do this (pss: I didn't forget to wurt, I just can't imagine anything she'd like to have that she doesn't already have).

I just relized. Unlocking the last tiers of mion/shadow affinity for wilson is beating fuelweaver/Celestial champ. Does this mean im gonna have to beat them 28 to 36 times to unlock them all?

You need to beat both the celestial champ 18 times and the fuel weaver 18 times if we are counting it as you switch after every one of their kill so yup

In addition to dropping items, there will be a little motivation to fight. + not everyone plays for all the characters

I like alot of these, though i will provide some feedback. I believe every perk should be a craft, or a benifit focused on the end game, since it flows with the progression of the game. E.g, webber could have a new special spider switcherdoodle for each side. I feel like winona should have new buildings and not generators. Also Warly's shadow perk is perfect i love it, however there are not many foods it makes better. The lunar spice one could just be focused on movement speed. Materials formall of these were not mentioned, but they should use pure brilliance, brightshades, pure horror and dark tatters.

Id love more uses for brightshade husks. That stuff just piles up. Id love a nettles-like recepie like the one from hamelt. Hell let me eat it

Wigfrid proposed perk is underwhelming I'm sorry. I like a lot of your suggestions for other characters, but wigfrid immune to all you listed is negligible. She as a character is already hard to kill. It's just stacking on something she's already exceptional at.

The Bernie ideas are great, but I honestly think I'd really like to see Willow get some more fire-based things to do. Maybe one of the alignments could give her lighter some buffs similar to Wilson's torch abilities.

For Winona having more efficient generators thematically linked to the sides is a brilliant idea. Nightmare Generators will encourage Winona to spend more time in the caves while Moonlight Generators would encourage her to spend more time on the surface, which is a very effective way to handle a "choosing sides" mechanic imo. I might also be interested in her spotlight getting more uses, since it's anti-darkness nature sort of blends nicely with this arc (Winona's examination quote even implies the spotlight is unpleasant for Charlie in some way)

I mean Wigfrid tends to spend most of her time away from base hunting. Overheating becomes a genuine hinderance for her in the summer if you venture too far away, since there's no reliable way to cool down on the run unless you've saved up a lot of nitre. Plus her two signature items take up the hat/umbrella slots, making slowing down the overheating a bit of a hindrance to her playstyle. Wigfrid play already naturally revolves around going into combat to deal with problems by restoring health/sanity, so being able to go from fight to fight in the summer to stay cool genuinely does sound appealing.

I fully agree with you! I do not think that these advantages should in any way remove the initial disadvantages of each character, being necessary to change several of my suggestions because of this. This was one more idea to motivate the forum staff to talk about what they expect from each character for Klei's developers to see.

I understand, these were just initial suggestions, as I don't play with all the characters I can't figure out what would be best for many of them, but I agree with you and am completely open to other possibilities.

Can't say I'm a fan of these ones Woby already lasts a long time and so does monster meat so this effectively does nothing on the nightmare side

While the lunar side just completely removes his downside.

to tell you the truth this was the worst powers I wrote, I never played Walter. But maybe a better idea would be.

Woby can be transformed into a version that works like a refrigerator while Woby emits Light.

Perhaps this is a slightly better idea, but it's up to you to say.

This seems good ideally this would be added after Woby her current buck hp threshold when all of her buck free hits are exhausted.

Perhaps Wurt could craft shadow/lunar influenced merm houses or upgrade existing merm houses. The Merms would have similar stats to royal merm guards but with added planar damage.

Here's an example with your format.


Wurt;

Nightmare Route: Something Smells Shady.

Wurt can craft shadow merm houses that cost: 1 dark sword, 2 pure horror, 1 dark tatter ,and 1 eel.

STATS: 600 HP, 26 normal damage, and 38 planar damage. 

Passive: 10% chance to create a shadow tentacle on hit that deals 16 planar damage that last for 3 seconds.

STATS without king: 200 hp, 16 damage, 14 planar damage, and no passive.

 

Moon Route: A Fish Out of their Mind.

Wurt can craft lunar merm houses that cost: 1 glass cutter, 2 brightshade husk, 1 pure brilliance, and 1 lunar wobster.

STATS: 600 HP, 20 normal damage, 20 planar damage.

Passive: 10% chance to create a temporary anenemy on hit that deals 34 planar damage with a small AOE radius.

STATS without king: 200 hp, 10 normal damage, 10 planar damage, and no passive.

I really like it, I would add 2 more little things, shadow merm teleport on impact like real shadows, and lunar ones increase sanity by being nearby

It's a fun idea, but I don't know if it's practicable. I think maybe Wurt's lane mechanics will be more focused on farming the new items through trading with King Merm. For example:

Lunar Route: Full Moon Fish.
Wurt acquires the knowledge of a fish, which appears at full moon (only near Wurt) in shallow regions to stay close to the dim moonlight. It can be exchanged with the merm king for new items that are used to manufacture lunar items.

Nightmare route: New Moon Fish.
Wurt acquires the knowledge of a fish, which appears at new moon (only near Wurt) in deep regions to keep hidden from light. It can be exchanged with the merm king for new items that are used to manufacture shadow items.

Both fish only appear next to the wurt and only after unlocking the ancient lore, in addition the fish give sanity boost (+6.6 sanity/minute) or insanity to those (-8.8 sanity/minute) who hold it.

I would change it a bit

Wigfrid;

Nightmare Route: Unstoppable fighter.
Immunity to throwback(2-3s cooldown) and stunlock.

Moon Route: Unbreakable Focus.
During fight Wigfrid is immune to insanity aura effects, storms(moon, sand and miasma) and AF mind controll, Inspiration gain penalty is reduced by 20%(at high inspiration it is gained slower).

 

Wolfgang;

Moon/Nightmare Route: Planar damage increased by 30% from Lunar/Shadow tools.

 

Wendy;

Moon Route: Bestowed knowledge.
All Ghostly Elixirs have increased efficiency(longer shield, higher damage etc).
Or
Abigail can be affected by 2 Ghostly Elixirs at the same time.

 

WX-78;
Nightmare Route: Shadow reinforcement Module
Unlocks the module recipe that allows you to reduce post-armor damage by 20% at cost of sanity (if sanity is 0 then module doesn't work). Takes up 4 slots.
(incoming damage - 20, armor - 20-80%=5, module - 5-20%=4)

Moon Route: Lunar Module
Unlocks the module recipe that gives 5 planar damage to all attacks. Takes up 3 slots.

Modules can be used only if route has been chosen

Both fish only appear next to the wurt and only after unlocking the ancient lore, in addition the fish give sanity boost (+6.6 sanity/minute) or insanity to those (-8.8 sanity/minute) who hold it.

This is also an interesting idea, it will definitely be difficult to grow them during the new moon and full moon, since they are quite short (except in winter), but in general the king will give the resources of the shadow and moon for them, so I think it's fair?
