A bit out there, but what about using rare slingshot ammo such as cursed rounds? So long as no one plays Walter it should be okay.

I'd say this is the best idea for this if no Walter players. Different types could have different values and all have no purpose outside of being a currency

this is the opposite of what you should want for a currency, unless you want your economy to grind to a halt or be outright bypassed

And exactly what I want if I need to print money. So yes, this is what I want.

Trinkets. The answer is trinkets. You can even use the predetermined gold value they have to assign them all different values, similar to different coins/bills irl. I am open to receive kind donations for this suggestion via potato cups.

Gems pile up over time, have various levels of usefulness, and could act as different denominations.

2 blue gems = 1 red gem?

purple are craftable, so not really can fit currency

2-5 red = 1 orange depending on supply?

2 orange = 1 yellow gems?

5 yellow = 1 green gems?

Edit: is there any way to spawn Gorge coins with console commands I wonder?
