I once saw a player pen a tallbird in the middle of their Berry farm.

The bait was under the Tallbird, Gobblers would go to it and get auto-killed.

They would then use a sleep dart to put the Tallbird to sleep and safely collect the loot.

It was the most silliest yet most ingenius thing I ever saw, I wish I remember whose stream I saw it on. I just know they never streamed again.

The sad part is.

You can just put bait between some fences and plant bushes around it and that's it nothing else is needed.

Gobblers ignoe both you and the berry bushes. So you can kill them one by one without any effort and just loot the remains. No need to waste sleep darts or put up with Tallbird's attitude.

That's why I wrote it was the silliest yet most ingenious thing xD

And OG DS has quite few mechanics that are outdated and trash and have no place in DST without a proper rework.

This is one of them. There is more than one thing wrong with Tallbird hatching and raising mechanic..

Factually wrong statement that serves no purpose in this argument.

I bet my left kidney that majority here who defend this poopy stinky mechanic never actually use said mechanic in their playthroughs and yet still want it kept "outdated" and in a borderline "unfinished" state for no other valid reason but "hur hur DS nostalgia".

I have died twice to my own stinky tallbird child (same play through lmfao) and have unsuccessfully and succesfully (mostly unsuccesfully)  raised countless others.

DST and DS have some big differences, some people prefer DS while still enjoying DST. And you can still play DS? I do.  It's not nostalgia.

I tried to take care of smallbirds, and It feels wrong, Smallbirds can't jump in to a boat, can't hatch on a boat, they have very low health, low hunger, tried to kill you... Can they even despawn with his owner?  It feels outdated. I think the easy fix will be turning smallbirds in to critters, even if this mean that they will never grow, or maybe a QOL.
What do you think guys?

That's a joke son you're supposed to laugh - YouTube

Unless they'll introduce animal ranching rework I don't know if I care about smallbirds as much. They are incredibly feral and the idea prolly is left that nature is incredibly feral in the Constant that only things like pigs, goats, bunnies and beefalos are prolly most tame things you can have.

Not sure if the original poster meant replace them entirely because No, that would be dumb to remove a whole type of enemy to become a critter. But a variation of smallbird as a critter would be good, like how glommer can die but has a variation of himself available as a critter. You could make it with a smallbird egg and any egg related meal or bird related meal.

I'd rather critters be more like Smallbirds. And also give Smallbirds something like the nest-building-when-fully-grown idea.

...come to think of it.
Renewable Hound Mounds?

If two players adopt a vargling and if they meet, the varglings leave their owners; grow; do the adult thing; and then, given enough bones and teeth, build a hound mound and start a family.
