More Setpieces!

Recommended Posts

Setpeices are always a nice surprise to find in a world that is fairly predictable. But over time you'll get to know the same set pool of setpecies and I am surprised that Klei didn't expand on this content since the possibilities are endless. So I'm here to share my ideas of new possible setpeices that could be added. And if you have your own idea of new setpeices share them down below.

Burnt base:

  • a 2x2 tile of carpeted flooring the has a skeleton
  • 2 burnt crock pots
  • burnt chest with ashes
  • a burnt alchemy engine
  • ice box with rot within.

Telelocator trap:

  • A Telelocaor focus with a Telelocator staff in the middle
  • picking up the staff drops sanity to 0 and spawns 3 terrorbeaks around you

Ruins chest trap:

  • located in the ruins
  • a chest containing 2-4 thulecite, a assortment of 1-5 yellow/green/orange gems, 3-5 nightmare fuel
  • surrounded by 4 nightmare lights
  • opening the chest immediately starts nightmare cycle

Lonely ruins statue;

  • located anywhere in the caves
  • a singular thulecite statue on top one tile of ruins turf
  • spawns a terrorbeak when mined

Spider Queen trap;

  • a chest surrounded by 3 tier 3 spider dens
  • chest contains 8-12 silk, 5-8 spider glands, 1 spider egg
  • opening the chest or attacking any of the dens transforms all the 3 dens into spider queens

poison birchnut forest:

  • located in birch biome
  • 15-20 birchnut trees placed somewhat close together
  • chopping any tree will transform 5 fully grown birchnut trees to poison birchnut trees

meteor trap:

  • located in the rocky biome
  • a glass cutter own its own surrounded by 3-4 moon glass
  • picking up the glass cutter will have meteors spawn on your location for a minute strait

catcoon village:

  • located in the birch biome
  • 3-5 catcoon stumps close together
  • 3-5 flowers planted around
  • 4 random trinkets scatter around

merm village:

  • located in the swamp
  • 3-4 merm huts close together
  • 2 pig heads
  • pond
  • 8 reeds clumped in a small area

Failed farmer:

  • a 1x2 farm plot littered with debris
  • skeleton with a damaged hoe nearby
  • 3-5 seeds of any plant scattered nearby

Lost seafarer:

  • located randomly out in the ocean
  • a boat with a skeleton
  • oar
  • sea fishing rod
  • tin fishing bin with spoiled fish

Lost pirate:

  • located randomly out in the ocean
  • a boat with a skeleton
  • oar
  • pinching winch
  • a bottle containing the location of a random sunken chest

Failed ruins rusher

  • located somewhere in the wilds biome
  • skeleton with a damaged thulecite crown nearby
  • 0% lantern nearby
  • backpack containing 3-5 thulecite fragments , 3-5 nightmare fuel, and a single gem of green/orange/yellow variety

The problem I have with set pieces is that you become familiar with them, they’re new for a few minutes then just go right back to being content you know to look for.

I don’t mind set pieces, but don’t expect them to massively shake up the game either.

I would absolutely love to see some new randomized setpieces in DST!
As far as I know we haven't really seen any big new ones since singleplayer DS, so getting some interesting new setpieces linked to some of the new content we got in DST would be more than welcome. :-D

I think a greater variety of set pieces, and a slightly higher chance for them to spawn would be great.  I use a mod to turn up the set pieces so my worlds always have a little something fun as I explore them - but it sucks seeing only the same ones over and over again.  I don't really want anything too useful, just the flavor it adds.  I like your suggestion for a failed farm plot, and the merm village that mirrors the pig one.

He's talking about the set pieces you find randomly spawned, like the spider queen or tall bird fortress, dev graveyard, or stuck pig, etc.  Not the ones always spawned like pig king, dfly, marble, etc.  The point isn't to change game balance, but to give more variety as you explore.  Its kinda an aesthetic qol improvement.

klei should really do a set piece update. In that way they can also save time for other more tricky updates

is so boring to have less than in DS with so low chances of appearing

also turn back weather traps for private servers. I get that it is messy in public servers but everybody is getting punished because of grief when it could be a diseabled by default setting (same for the old bell....)

Webber players: "Are you sure that's a trap?"
