WX Human Theory

Recommended Posts

I've been thinking about this, and i thought about how WX can starve, go insane, spawn a skeleton on death and turn into a ghost. This might sound crazy, but i think WX might not even fully be a robot, but may instead contain a human being inside of him who is able to have full control over him. This confirms why he possesses a ghost and spawns a human skeleton on death, why he has a human skull in the don't starve game files, why he can be seen with a skeleton when struck by lightning and why he actually dies instead of just powering down when dying. I assume the reason he has a hate for every living thing and why he's got a hatred for Wagstaff is because the human inside him was forced to pilot WX against their will. The human may be unable to do anything in their current state, except for piloting WX, not even being able to feel empathy. This explains the many modules and parts that are used in him, like the optical sensors and empathy modules. The human may lack memories of them ever being human due to their memories being erased after being forced to pilot WX, which might explain their relationship with machines, as they never recall being human. This is a dumb theory just for fun and if you ever find any ideas or holes in my theory please comment! Also im making this at 1AM so there's bound to be some grammatical errors lol.

I just assume his creation was a combination of shadow magic and technology as the magical beings and creatures of the constant don't particually follow common sense either hunger can techincally be explained as fuel, sanity in itself makes sense as he is aware he's not just following his programming meaning he has the capacity to think as well as be insane as he has his own thoughts not just them being preprogrammed as far as we know. Finally him having a ghost is likely a unique feature of the constant rather than him having a afterlife as wortox confirms he has no soul.

well i mean he could just be hyper intelligent life is hard to determine when it comes to robots ect when it comes to things like consciousness and self awareness and also the other things are just game logic if he didn't have a ghost you wouldn't be able to revive him and skeletons for bone shards

You're looking too much into it. Is whimsical and dark "design" - don't forget all characters are shown as having bones all over the body (even in hair and clothes) via lighting strike. Cartoon caricatures. Think at them (all characters) as some sort of homunculi if you may. Stand-ins for a playing will in the wacky world that is The Constant.

Forgot who, but I saw someone mentioning that WX-78 had all these modules because Wagstaff wanted to be sure that humans could survive in the Constant before going in there himself. This is why he created WX-78 as humanly as possible. This doesn't explain the skeleton of course, but I decided to stick with this theory either way ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

this is my theory but its possible someone else mentioned it-- i haven't seen someone else mention it though

skeleton only feels like it exists for consistency reasons, so everyone can see where/how they died. same thing for the ghost-- to let wx players to walk (or float) themselves to revival i'm not sure if it truly has any lore behind it at all

take wormwood's creation. we saw it in lunar roots, very clearly boneless, but he still has a skeleton when struck by lightning and drops one upon death. if you want to argue that the vines have bones, fine, but it still doesn't make sense because then wormwood's bone structure would have to be a massive coil of bones, not the human-ish shape we see

now onto wx: they make no mention/suggestion of having a skeleton, or feeling any sort of familiarity with skeletons, rather just laughing at them and calling dying a human mistake. they seem to hate humans in general, not understanding what they do (winters feast, among other things). if they used to be human, they'd be able to recall important human traditions, or at least basic empathy for "their own kind" (which they actually do! but only for clockworks) unfinished skin? theres a wide open gap and half a face exposed but no bones to be seen.

and ghosts? wortox refers to ghosts as souls, and is probably able to eat them. wx doesn't drop a soul item upon dead, hinting at their completely artificial and, well, soulless nature. dont you think if there was a human piloting wx, there would still be a soul?

though i will say, "wx forgot everything about being human" is a pretty weak argument since you can't actually prove it. there's no concrete evidence suggesting that wx is forgetful or has amnesia, or a memory wipe.

i don't like cyborg wx theory whenever it comes up, and i can see why it looks plausible at first, but you read through wx's quotes once, you read through them again, the theory doesn't make sense

WX can starve

If humans can convert food into fuel then why couldn't an automaton have a mechanical recreation of that?

go insane

Sanity seems more linked to the Constant than actual sanity. The main effect of it is genuinely real things actually happening.

spawn a skeleton on death and turn into a ghost

People have bones in their hair, and Wormwood the plant will spawn a skeleton and turn into a ghost. Those are just cartoony aspects that everyone shares.

WX is a robot. He even speaks in caps lock to prove it.
