NawiQ
Do you know why doesn't Klei make an official translation of DST in other languages, particularly Russian, Brazilian, Turkish etc...? I'm currently playing with my friends (Russians) who happen not to speak English so they have to download translation mods, problem is that sometimes they are not fully translated because translators have to keep up with updates and they have to do it for free so it's not like they are necessarily interested in doing it forever. Is Klei even considering something like this? I know they added Chinese but that's it Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/135620-new-languages-in-dst/ Share on other sites

DajeKotlyar
Russian mode is good. You should download beta version, it's updating regular. I can leave a link, if you want. I thought about language problem too, but the thing is even if Klei added official translation, people won't coordinate better unless automatic translator in real time would be build-in in chat or something. Imagine that one group knows English names of things and doesn't speak, let's say, Russian, another group speaks Russian and is clueless about what English-speaking people are saying; even right now this results in spamming in chat on languages most people from both sides don't understand, but at least the names of objects (eyebrella, meaty stew, walking cane, etc.) are familiar to both parties (with greater likelihood); and god forbid you to reveal that you know both languages - you will need to be either extremely rude and ignore people, or be a translator instead of actually playing the game. So yeah, I'm concerned about this issue, but don't think solution is so simple. Edit: although official translation could benefit solo and singe-language servers for sure, and I wonder if it would be profitable taking into account that non-English-speaking people can just not buy the game/drop it because they don't understand anything. I know they added Chinese but that's it I remember there was an official russian translation, but it was either removed or I somehow turned it off permanently. It was awful - russian translations of ONI and Griftlands are much, much better. P.S.: Если тебе все еще нужен русификатор, то вот он. На дату обновления не смотри, ибо он обновляется через гитхаб, причем довольно оперативно - думаю, прожить с парой непереведенных предметов можно пару деньков. Hornete
The weird thing is, there are official translations for a bunch of other languages. They're just sitting there in the files. But for whatever reason, they're just not used? It's only chinese, traditional and simplified. I have to wonder why these other languages aren't implemented, they seem up to date, and they're just sitting there. DolphinWing
In game code they separate the flags for console and steam version. I guess it is because the fonts used in Steam and console. To fit various resolutions in Steam may not be fully tested. In contrast Console versions are simpler. For a very long time the Traditional Chinese is not enabled nor updated so I made a mod for it. It's a long process to translate every words or sentences to local languages. Even you use a machine translation you still need time to review everything is properly translated. Especially when you try to match the meaning in different cultures. I believe most mod authors take a lot of time tweaking their work. We should give applause to those who keep updating their mods and appreciate their efforts. Machine translations are far far better now than they used to be. So hope one day we can really have no language barriers.
