But testing it out, it doesn't do that, and the wiki doesn't say anything about it. There are two other people in the comments of the wiki page who thought the same, which I suppose means something. Either way, it could certainly use that. As it is it's a very bad armor piece for what it requires to craft. But even this is marginally useful. Owlrust Posted October 24, 2021 Share Posted October 24, 2021 I like to use it with Warly because I can just use Garlic Powder to boost my overall damage reduction to (almost) 80% like the football helmets. These helmets have as much durability as Battle Helms and reduce damage by only 70%, but that means that the cap can kinda survive more hits than a battle helm when paired with Garlic Powder in a sense because it takes less damage. When hit by a Deerclops you take 75 damage without armor, with a Battle Helm (80%) you take 15 damage and the Helm takes 60; the Helm can only take 8.75 hits before breaking, whereas the Cap (70%) can take 10. A Battle Helm can take 33 hits from a spider before breaking whereas a Cap can take 38 hits. While the armor covers only 70% of the damage, the Garlic Powder reduces the leftover damage you take bringing your total damage taken down to roughly the same as an 80% armor. At least that's how I like to approach it. Honestly don't mind the armor itself too much, its durability is higher than football helmets and I can see that filling a nice niche when paired with body armors. It's just really annoying to craft because of how RNG the shells are. Takes around 16 cookie cutters to kill for each cap, i've killed 15 cookie cutters without getting a single shell before... At least that's how I like to approach it. I don't think it's necessarily a bad choice of armor itself. But it would be faster to sail out to the salt clusters, kill 4 cookie cutters, sail back, feed the meat to a pig, and then make a football helmet than it would be to farm for enough shells to make the hat. The issue is the material cost imo, not the armor, although I do think that I would prefer it be an armor that deals damage to attackers, so that the ocean would have more to offer than just slightly different sidegrades. Scrimbles Posted October 24, 2021 Share Posted October 24, 2021 It's really good when given damage reflecting capabilities, however it's just too annoying to get compared to a football helmet, so I don't think anyone would really bother if reflect was added officially. You gotta sail out to salt lakes which can be hard to find, kill Cookie cutters for a 25% chance to drop, collect 4, just for a worse protection Football Helmet in vanilla. The Cookie Cutters respawn 90 seconds at the very least, but thats still a lot of waiting and grinding for whats currently just a bad item. Pigs are easy to find, you can infinitely create new Pig Houses, and they atleast drop meat if they don't drop any Pig Skin. And you only need ONE Pig Skin, instead of 4 cookie cutter pieces. TL:DR - Too hard to find, too long to grind, too low a drop chance, all for an item that is infinite harder to get and worse in every way to a Football Helmet. It would need a LOT of buffs, or be easier to craft, or be easier to farm the materials for, for anyone to bother. Also Football Helmets are just too OP. I wish I would have known this information BEFORE I set cookie cutter spawns to tons. I’ve lost many a boat to these annoying things. And their Craftable helmet sucks.. it needs a buff of some sort.
