How do YOU deal with hounds late game?

Recommended Posts

A healthy Ornery Beefalo will have no trouble whatsoever fighting off a group of hounds and will be back in tip-top shape well before the next wave comes. Mind you, I do not face tank mindlessly, as that would probably kill the beefalo before its time. I focus the elemental hounds, which are weaker, first and use their fire/ice effects for crowd controls. It's essentially the same approach I'd use for fighting late game hounds on foot, except it doesn't waste half a Thulecite Crown on the numerous hits that will inevitably come my way.

In my current world, I've also placed an isolated flingomatic near my base, which I use during summer and autumn to turn fire hounds into honorary ice hounds, as I find freezing to be more effective form at crowd control than fire.

Alternatively, if you can't be bothered to fight hounds at the moment, there's the option of cancelling the wave altogether by going in and out of the caves, or by relogging while on a boat. (Learned that last trick from Misuto, and it's been a godsent with my riverside base.)

Wait.. since when do hounds aggro onto Bernie? I haven’t played Willow in awhile but the last time I played I had to run the hounds under Bernie’s feet to get Bernie to even bother attacking them.

Bernie's perk is having a taunt effect to all enemies

I once used a Spiral Starfish Trap and it was quite successful.

Even a single Anenemy is enough to kill all hounds, I used four because I had them left and they also complimented the square design. You have to run anticlockwise to get all the hounds inside and once they're standing on top of the Anenemy you're good to go. It will kill them even unloaded.

It takes some time and rocks to set up, but after that it has no maintenance costs and is very minimalistic.
Comparing it to other everlasting methods it's probably the cheapest and can be moved wasting very little resources if you ever want to (imagine if Houndius Shootius could just be dug up!)

Beefalos, I drop bell tethered beefalo close to base where I want the herd to be located and they do waves for me.

I like playing with beefalo because they are more efficient fighting than most players, so I keep 2 or 3 groups of beefalo close.

If the amount of beefalo is just too much, we go for a walk (piggyback stuffed with bonded bells) and just go wipe spiders or wipe the herd with dfly, maybe kill moose goose on spring, fight tallbirs fort... you get the idea.

I have been using them like that since year of the beefalo event (they do wonders at caves during spring/winter aswell and for worm waves) and since I'm slow i often get killed by them, but I always get a good laugh on it
